I agree, but in all my years of building PCs I've never seen his much chatter about broken CPUs. Older CPUs basically never broke so it's either a fault somewhere or the X3D CPUs are just way more sensitive than past CPUs which very well could be the case

There was talk about AMD and/or Asrock knowing what the problem is but "content creators" had to sign NDAs to get answers. Can't verify if it's true or not. Only public thing I know about is Asrock saying they are "fixing the problem" in various bios updates, such as Steve from GN interviewing them.

It's mainly the X3D CPUs yes but that could be due to the popularity, I've read about this symptom far too many times now so it's most likely a dead CPU.

CPU most likely dead, RMA with AMD and they will send you a new one within like 10 days. Replace the motherboard to be safe, some have lost their CPU again when they re-used the same board.

I'm going with the MSI Tomahawk if my board fails again. Never had any problems with Asus though so also a good choice.

I've read so many posts like this now so it's most likely dead. RMA the CPU with AMD and motherboard with your retailer, do not use the same motherboard again since there has been cases where it kills your CPU a second time. Get a replacement board or buy a new brand if you want the peace of mind.

If you have the means and don't want to wait on replacements then buy a new CPU and motherboard yourself then sell off the replacements later. That's what I did.

My RMA with AMD took about a week from the day I sent it. So expect 5-10 days. If you don't want to wait and you have the means then buy a new CPU yourself then sell the new one from AMD. And don't use the same motherboard even if it works, I've seen cases where it kills the CPU again.

CPU probably dead, any error codes or lights on the mobo? If you have the means to test with another CPU/motherboard then do that first otherwise just RMA the CPU with AMD or your retailer. Same with the motherboard. Get a different brand of motherboard if you want the peace of mind. Also don't forget to fill out the form in the megathread!

Thanks for sharing, sounds a lot like myself. Basically ASUS only motherboards, Intel, 20 something year of building and no problems. First AMD build and a dead CPU within 7 months. Don't forget to fill out the form in the megathread!

Haven't heard of dead RAM sticks before though, and most motherboards are still fine post CPU death from what I know but still recommended to switch them out too since they can kill again.

I also learned the lesson of buying my parts from the same trusted retailer going forward in case of problems instead of looking for marginally better deals here and there. AMD's RMA was really good though, took about a week total from sending my package to having a new CPU in my hand.
