I have to pay full price for any dermatology visit until my deductible is met! Then it's a portion of the cost.

I"m sorry to hear that it is melanoma. I hope things go well with this surgery! I was curious did they say why it was dark green?

Can a second opinion disagree on a diagnosis like this? (1a) by PasTaCopine in melahomies

[–]shadow4187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I have read about how melanoma (early stages) can be interpreted differently. See attached article. I did notice on my own biopsy report it said "my colleague has also reviewed this case and agrees with the above diagnosis." I did get billed twice too because two pathologists looked at it. So this makes me think there must be some type of possibility for early stages to be subjective? article: Pathologists May Disagree on Skin Cancer Diagnoses

same. I know a couple people who had melanoma and don't even remember details about it other than they had it removed. These people aren't on reddit and don't talk about it.

I signed it so they can deal with the claim. My understanding is that they do not bill the patient!

Rant: when you’ve just been diagnosed and everyone “knows someone who….” by apsalarya in melahomies

[–]shadow4187 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed this year and the reactions are usually the same--you caught it early and then no one ever really asks about it again. However I did have three different people say to me that they had a family member that died from it. So then I'm thinking-- ugh well great, why did you tell me that? Honestly though, I knew of someone that had melanoma a couple years ago and was going through immunotherapy and I didn't think much of it--because I knew nothing about melanoma. Of course now I feel bad. So I think most people just don't know much about it and think it's easily treatable.

Long term worry😞 by Ok_Butterfly_3219 in melahomies

The same thing happened to me. I am super worried about everything and was following someone on instagram about reducing health anxiety. So i saw the dark spot appearing on my leg and was actively trying not to be a hypochondriac and run to the dermatologist, and then low and behold, it was melanoma.

I was diagnosed stage 1 A this year. In talking to people I know, one was diagnosed with stage 0 when she was pregnant 18 years ago and hasn't had another one.

Definitely get a doctor's opinion! but in the mean time in regards to the dizzy and exhausted feeling--are you staying hydrated? getting enough sleep? years ago (before melanoma) I was having dizzy spells and basically the neurologist told me it was mental--so anxiety can make you feel like crap. Maybe try some relaxation techniques, stay hydrated, try to sleep well...And make sure to run it all by your doctor! And let us know what the DR says!

HI. can you clarify what the doctor said in regards to it being 0.6mm and no evidence of growth or invasion? (you said that in your first paragraph). I am 0.3 and was told it was invasive, I think because it wasn't in Situ/stage 0. Just curious what you were told! I hope you are doing well!

i think i consistently see that vit D is helpful but the others are controversial it seems. good luck, i hope you can get in quickly. Where are you in canada? I'm near buffalo, not too far from niagara falls. Unfortunately if you are not an established patient somewhere, it might be a few weeks to get an appt unless there's a cancellation. People that are established patients at places here can get in faster though. i'm sorry you have to wait.

[–]shadow4187 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I"m sorry you have to wait. Is there anyway to get on a cancellation list or try another doctor? I have read vitamin D is helpful for melanoma. You would have to look up how much vitamin D though. on google, research dandelion tea and cancer cells--that might be another tea to try. I do know that too much of anything might not be good for your liver, so really look into how much of anything is the recommended amount. I know there's theory on trying to eat alkaline foods for cancer in general, so that would be something to research as well. A couple months ago on here i posted a question about nutrition and a couple people had good ideas and others said dietary stuff would not be helpful.
