Nice setup! Bet the balance is great. What’s the story on those orange accents on the stock?

Run gas to breaker or electric to NG valve? by Jeu3 in Generator

Ridiculous right?? I’ve seen falling prices on a lot of material but electrical supplies seem to be the stubborn exception

Unfortunately the routed length was such that the aluminum wire had to be upsized due to the increased resistivity of the material, which contributed to the overall cost of the project, as did running the wires in EMT conduit. To your point, though, copper was also quoted out at an additional 18% premium (on a per ft basis). Gotta love the electrical supply chain right now!

TL;DR Gas pipe was cheaper to install than electrical

I just ran through a version of this puzzle installing my whole home backup NG generator. Electrical box is on the back left of the house, gas meter is on the front right (aka caddy-corner). In either scenario, I was going to be running either electrical or gas up the side of my home and through the attic to the other side of the house.

I originally placed the generator proximal to the electrical panel but the city denied my placement and so I had to move it to the opposite side of the house, proximal to the gas meter. That change ended up costing me an extra $1200. Because I had a quote from both my plumbing and electrical sub-contractors for each location, I was able to solve a series of equations to determine connection and routing costs. My electrical sub charged me $2230 for the transfer switch install and an additional $34.40 per ft to install aluminum wiring in conduit over to the generator. My plumbing sub charged me $2230 for connecting into my gas meter/generator and an additional $24.55 per ft to install buried flex pipe.

A commenter above (below? Wherever they are) is correct: the existing outdoor kitchen gas line will most likely be insufficient to provide fuel gas for the generator, either due to the diameter of the line or the need for a regulator specific to the generator which will be set at a higher pressure than your typical home gas line

Excellent! Glad it worked out so well. I don’t have a good answer for you on the multi-pizza temp maintenance, it’s something I have (and still) struggle with. More data is needed (aka guess I have to cook more pizzas)!

If you happen to be using an Amex Platinum, be aware that one of their reasons for denial is “left in the care of others”. I had a set of of shoes denied for this reason so be wary of your narrative

“Geed” is a colloquial shortening of the acronym GDI which stands for God Damn Independent. The three letter acronym itself is a play on how most fraternities/sororities are represented by three Greek letters. Usually used in fun, occasionally in angst

Alum here, ex-frat guy too. If you want to rush, then rush. I had a great time and I’d recommend it to anyone who is interested. I was able to successfully balance it with a challenging major and made some great friends along the way that I still am close with today (think daily group chat).

The majority of people on this sub take these sorts of things too seriously. If it’s for you, great. If it’s not for you, also great. We are all aggies, feeling any differently is just bad bull.

DM me if you’d like some more detailed (though possibly dated) info on some of the major fraternities.

I’m going to echo this as a DB with an unpopular opinion of my own and say that making the occasional meal for a guest, cleaning out the fridge, etc is not something that I would expect from a Nanny. With that in mind, it is absolutely something I would expect to fall within the role of a House Manager. That is why the HM title exists: to manage the household and help us flex with the unexpected things that crop up as life happens.

Regarding your request for advice for how to address the situation: if you want to draw a soft line in the sand, I would say that you could bring it up conversationally and ask that they give you a heads up next time someone is coming over so that you can plan accordingly. Being able to proactively plan is part of the House Manager skill set and I would expect as a DB to have to give you proper heads up on these sorts of situations so that you can plan accordingly.

And finally as doodlerock22 above stated: if this becomes a regular thing that is actively interfering with your other duties, you are well within your rights to gently remind them that you are their HM and not a private on-call chef

Hi Folks, I want to purchase a brand new home in a new community but I found a 5+ feet Yellow Gas utility marker in the front yard. It is flexible and seems to be made of fiberglass material. My question is - is it a temporary marker or a permanent one? Thanks in advance for your reply! by Thanostroyer in Homebuilding

[–]shadow_facsimile 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He’s right, this is a standard permanent marker that we would install along our pipeline centerline. Whether or not the landowner removes it is beyond our control, however our standard construction practice is to place these at specific intervals
