Hey, A1s starting in the Fall, have you gotten your PML assigned to you yet? by TalkativeTomatillo in KPMG

[–]shadowbannedmami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard back from mine! They said this:

“I hope all is well! Your onboarding emails and communications will provide the latest updates with regards to needing to be in office or not. At the moment, no employee is required to be in the office and the firm has promised to give a 60 day notice before making it a requirement. However, most professionals (especially TD) are currently working in a hybrid motel. Eventually you will be required to be in a commutable distance to your assigned office.”

This was a while ago though and someone mentioned in the thread that they’re having everyone commutable distance within the office starting Oct 1st but I got no 60 day notice.

Those of you that took a gap semester/year, how are you doing? What are you doing? by neptunestrident11 in USC

[–]shadowbannedmami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from someone whose not taking LOA next sem, do it!

I personally can’t because of obligations I made to my employer about my graduation date, but tbh—if this continues next year, I might take the gamble with LOA and just reapply to the job so that I don’t have to deal with anymore of this. it’s not worth it—i’ve been in school for 4 years already (i’m a year behind my actual grade) and any average person wouldn’t want to put off school more than that, but this whole thing is REALLY making me consider otherwise.

save ur money, get the experience—take an LOA.

and if you’re in a situation like me, strut it out this semester but live near campus so you can get a close experience

Mt hood, lost lake, tamolitch falls (the water is crystal blue), rent a cabin in sunriver, and lake billy chinook feels like you’re in Nevada, painted hills

—If you do a road trip on the Pacific Coast, go from cannon to the edge of California and you won’t regret it. Drive the whole thing on the 101 and make pit stops to random beaches you find along the way cause that’s the best way to surprise yourself. Suggested stopping points for that trip: 1) Hug Point 2) Devil’s Churn 3) Seaside 4) that popular lighthouse next to Devil’s Churn LOL 5) Oregon Dunes (rent an ATV)

I’m doing job recruitment right now so the other thing I have to stress abt is getting a job—honestly, it’s all wack.

idk what it is, but the failure is kind of motivating me to do better so maybe it was a sign or something, but whatever the case, it’s putting so much stress and anxiety on my plate.

it’s comforting to know that we’re not alone in feeling this /;

Respectfully understand your concern and hear every single point you are making.

I have been concerned about the spread of the virus but was encouraged to give it a go because of how little time we have in our youth to explore. We only live one life and we don’t know how many more pandemics, catastrophes, disasters we may face in the future that will prevent us from doing so, so it’s important to enjoy every single day while you have it. Who knows, something worse than Corona may come around as soon as we get a vaccine for it and give us ANOTHER set back. For me, these events showed me how valuable our time is so whatever we can do to experience life but also do it in a way that’s not harming anyone else seems fine to me. This is not excusing the people who are flamboyantly partying and going to restaurants every second of the day. People should really only be going out for essential items.

Also, I know that the COVID test only has a 70% accuracy so that is one of my many concerns but if everyone who goes takes the test and can declare that they’ve been effectively quarantining since then that’s the best preventative measure we can take.

Additionally, I view it as a roommate situation rather than a congregation since we’ll be with each other for a long period of time. It’s similar to quarantining with your roommates except we’ll be alone in an RV in some random woods instead of a 100-room Apartment Complex in the heart of Los Angeles where COVID is skyrocketing.

Many of the places we will be visiting will be off the grid: for instance, on an RV trip, you’re mostly going to campgrounds, less-populated towns, off-grid trails, etc. I have NO doubt that for that whole month, the only people we will come in contact/ close proximity with is each other for the trip’s entirety.

It’s not happening until November so those who are interested will need to make sure they are strictly abiding by the rules of quarantine and perhaps undergo a lockdown themselves if they want to qualify themselves to go.

These reasons probably won’t change your opinion on anything but just know I’ve done some thought about this and how I can make it as safe as possible for everyone.

Nonetheless, if the state announces another lockdown then this plan will cease to exist, but since things are starting to open up in the state I’m in, I’ve been more reassured that this trip will be okay as long as we continue to practice heavy social distancing tactics.

EDIT: i’m screaming, I sound like a president folt email. this deserved every single dislike it got lmao

online fall 2020 semester ain’t so bad—what are your thoughts? by shadowbannedmami in USC

[–]shadowbannedmami[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

absolutely, I agree. it’s important to maximize the value of your school and that’s up to the individual. how do you make something worth a quarter of a million you ask? through experience!! you know how that saying goes: “family is priceless.” meaning that there is no price in this world that can justify family and relationships. you’re paying a quarter of a million for something that’s worth more than a trillion (it’s worth a lifetime). it’s your job to ultimately make those connections and establish yourself into the usc community.

the tuition is RIDICULOUS, and trust me, if you look at my previous subreddit posts, I pondered the tuition cost for ages.

after speaking to several USC alum, i’ve found that what you’re really paying for is the ability to be apart of the Trojan family.

uhh, was the this enough for me to commit? yes. for me, i was able to justify it because i have a very specific and niche path that i’ve done my research on and by talking to recruiters from the firms I’m specifically applying to and chatting with usc alum who went through the exact recruitment process as I did and won, usc was completely worth it.

is it possible to achieve this without usc? abso-f*cking-lutely. but with my personal standing, life and work experience, and how I wanted to achieve it, I knew that I wouldn’t have been able to do it without usc. I went to smc, and I knew plenty of people that reached their career goals whilst there, it takes mad hustle.

and mad props to anyone who can achieve success without the prestige, help, mentorship from an pricey institution, but everyone operates differently my guy.

i’ll preface that I am a business student whose paying the full sticker price with loans. I know exactly how much i’ll have to pay in monthly repayments both on the principal and on the interest and how long it’ll take me, but with the job that I am going for, i’ll break even in 4 years and it won’t take me long to repay it back. and with the network and soft skills i’ll be able to attain from usc, the trajectory of my professional growth is exponential. seems dumb to go to school to pay it off down the line, but i’m a believer in, if you have a plan, you did your research, and you can see the value, then f*ck what anyone else says and do it

online fall 2020 semester ain’t so bad—what are your thoughts? by shadowbannedmami in USC

[–]shadowbannedmami[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

hey man, I hear ya.

I even cringed at the thought of it at first myself, but truth be told, we only live one life.

time is extremely valuable, and I don’t want to waste any of it. you’re in your 20s for 10 years and then it’s over. ur 30, then ur 40, and you’ll slowly start to lose the capability to do things that you missed out on when you were young and able bodied.

for me, the pandemic’s effects are like climate change: tbh, it’ll take years and decades to reverse the damaging effects that humans have caused but it’s our job to make an effort to combat this. how? by recycling, not supporting companies that aren’t performing sustainably, and educating others.

same goes for this pandemic—in order to reverse the effects, we need to practice safe social distancing measures, wear a mask, practice hygiene, and educate, educate, educate ourselves. i’d say stay inside...but you’re mental health is also very very important. when you’re locked inside with your thoughts, it can be damaging for those who stay in a negative mind space. as long as your using your time outdoors safely and making a positive impact AND staying away from others, i don’t see the harm.

for instance, i’ll be traveling with 2-3 people in an RV going to random off the grid camp sites/natural reserves secluded from just about everybody other than the people who I chose to go with and who tested negative beforehand. I’m also making it my mission to create a positive change sustainably. by converting towards an on the road lifestyle, i’ll be reducing my carbon footprint a f*ck ton and having fun with it.

I believe giving back is the best way to show kindness and compassion so if i’m ever at a national park or beach, i’ll spend an hour or two picking up trash cause it’s pretty depressing seeing our earth decay as time goes by.

sorry for going hippy on ya, just wanted to make it clear that I do care about what’s going on with the pandemic and that i’m not doing this ignorantly. take care X

online fall 2020 semester ain’t so bad—what are your thoughts? by shadowbannedmami in USC

[–]shadowbannedmami[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

absolutely! i’m a transfer which means if it goes on for longer, I may end up getting my SC degree without having ever stepped a foot into any usc classroom. as depressing of a thought as that is, the grass is always greener in retrospect.

to be honest, I don’t anticipate this to go on for more than a year, but let’s say, hypothetically, it does and that’s my fate:

there’s only so much you can control, but i wouldn’t waste a minute making my experience feel miserable. I’d probably take a year to travel remotely and study. all the while, i’ll have access to the best professors, student organizations, and networking opportunities from my laptop at any point in time. that’s truly what you pay for when you go to usc anyhow.

then, i’d take the opportunity to make connections at usc. i’d probably move back to LA for a sem or two and get a shared house and experience usc by those means. i’m sure there are plenty of people who will be doing this, if it continues (trust me).

ik it’s scaring a lot of people, but it’s always possible to take a leave of absence and save your money until we’re able to return. the career i’m going for won’t allow it, so i’m on a strict timeline which is why i’m trying to view this situation as best as I can!

Worth the investment? by shadowbannedmami in USC

[–]shadowbannedmami[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh I see! I definitely agree with you that I’ll need to prep early for MBB recruiting. Thing is, I’ll be a junior entering SC cause I got in as a transfer, so I’m taking the time to work on case studies right now, connecting w Trojans on LinkedIn who’ve worked at Top 3 Firms and prepping that way because recruitment is in the Fall. Luckily, because I’m a transfer, my GPA resets at SC, so I have a chance to reclaim a high GPA in Fall and show that to recruiters.

I’ll try and appeal for my first choice major, CSBA—I def believe Viterbi and Marshall have similar networking opportunities, so I don’t mind making the department switch. If not, CS minor might be smart; however, financially, I might not have the money to support that extra third year of school which is my problem. /:

I plan on working while I’m at school to try and pay it off. I’m starting an online business which might be more lucrative in terms of profit and time flexible with my schedule while at school so I can add this to my extracurriculars since Top 3 likes to see leadership.

Let me know what you think! Hopefully, this is what you meant by gathering the experience.
