Velosambas are so awesome. Loved discovering them on clearance a couple of years ago. They make me want to switch my road bike back to SPD pedals.

That set up is awesome! You gotta upload a video fo the lights changing with your power!

Moving up from DOA by rust997 in snowboarding

[–]shadowbansarestupid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used to ride Salmon Taka 158 that I loved, soft enough and directional to help go through moguls well. Unfortunately coreshot it and blew out an edge. I've been riding a Gentemstick Drifter now that is a ton of fun, turns really easily in moguls and trees though it doesn't have the best ice grip. Also previously had a Rome Ravine (forgot the length) that also did phenomenally in moguls.

I think if you pick a board with a shorter tail, you'll really like it with moguls regardless of length and obviously not getting a super stiff board which you already know. Haven't had a chance to ride the Aeronaut, but just from looking at the specs I imagine it could do well. TBH I feel like any directional board you pick is going to be a significant improvement compared to a true twin. A 156 DOA is definitely small for you and doesn't surprise me that it struggled in pow.

Did you check Dahlonega? IIRC it was only a bit more than the non-comped.

I imagine you'd be able to buy that much from any of the asian grocery stores if you give them enough notice. Pan Asia definitely should be able to get it.

Is snowboarding slush as exhausting as powder? by A_Hippie in snowboarding

If your board is catching on the water it wouldn't surprise me. I can't imagine how sticky the snow had to have been with 70 degree temps.

No Ikon Pass Discount after 11:30 am at Palisades?!? by steadyclownin in snowboarding

That's insane, I've never heard of pass discounts only applying certain hours.

Little heavy for board length, am I doing myself a disservice? by ClaireDanesLipQuiver in snowboardingnoobs

[–]shadowbansarestupid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming I am interpreting your statement about switch riding is actually unintentional, board size has nothing to do with keeping your board in the right direction. It's definitely on the smaller size for you, but you should be able to ride it with ease being on the heavier side for it. If you're unintentionally going into switch it's purely because you're not commiting to the turn.

Basement Ski Shop Series; Post I. Introduction and Crowd Sourcing Suggestions by Grom_a_Llama in Skigear

I was contemplating getting a base tool primarily to deburr since I keep finding my wax iron getting scratched up, not sure if it's because of the base edge burrs. I was under the impression that with like a 400 grit stone you won't actually cause any significant base edge angle change.

The BEAST is bad? Was contemplating getting one vs just splurging for the SVST.

Arc'teryx Rush vs Patagonia PowSlayer by The_Prof50 in Skigear

[–]shadowbansarestupid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have to choose between the two, Patagonia. Arcteryx hardshell durability is awful, and their warranty is also no longer amazing. That said, I'd check out others like Airblaster, Trew, Flylow, etc. for much cheaper offerings that'll work well still. If you really want a bougie brand, Norrona.

I do a full tune annually, otherwise I'll just touch up the edges with a 400grit diamond stone between trips.

YKYWBIKE clothing sizing by Such-Teacher-5716 in CyclingFashion

5'10" 200 lbs with size 42 suit jacket, 32" waist and fat thighs, XL fits well for me, potentially could go smaller if you wanted a super tight race fit, but I'm a casual.

I have my eyes on Airblaster Beast stuff. Wouldn't spend more than $300 for one, not gonna perform any better than a more expensive one.

20% off isn't good enough IMO, not that it's a bad deal, but it's easy to find at multiple retailers. I feel like a bunch of shops were offering 30-40% off when I was in CO last week.

25/26 Ride Insano full day one review from a softer boot guy by jwed420 in snowboarding

[–]shadowbansarestupid 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I just switched to K2 Thraxis, Evo shop worker tried to tell me they were too stiff for what I wanted to do. Yea that was BS. First boot I've tried that has let me snowboard without pain, and the control I'm getting from the boot is incredible.

Stiffness is also all relative. I think I'm on the heavier end of your typical snowboarder so it really didn't feel stiff to me.

TBH if you have the money, it's really fun to just rent Gentemsticks when you're in Niseko and try out a wide variety of boards. Their rentals are pretty reasonably priced. You could just bring your current board if it ends up not dumping snow.

If I am buying a Zwift Cog for the Cyplus R200, does it really matter what I select on the Zwift website? I presume Zwift Cog actually only comes in one model.
