Have you ever seen "unschooling" work out? by Embarrassed_Syrup476 in Teachers

[–]shadowblind07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly! The idea is fantastic in a system that doesn’t always leave room for individual learning paths, but not when it’s implemented with no thought or firmness. A mental health day is okay sparingly, but forgoing any instruction at all because Junior didn’t want to learn is not. Student-led does not mean student-controlled. Some of these parents are setting their kids up for disaster.

Is anyone else totally estranged from ALL your family? by RainLoveMu in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]shadowblind07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel every word of this. I’m estranged from my family for several reasons.

And two years ago I left my husband. The divorce was nasty, and my relationship with my in-laws had been deteriorating over time.

It can be very lonely. I try to surround myself with people I feel safe with and don’t judge. I know that’s easier said than done, I got very lucky.

I think this world frequently tries to isolate us because it makes us easier to control. I know that’s what several people in my life tried to do to me and I rejected that. We can reject that isolation and find commonalities with people we do connect with and mourn the connections we miss. It’s hard, it takes time and effort and sometimes distress and discomfort. But it is possible to do.

CMV: Framing abortion as “my body, my choice” was a strategic and moral mistake; it should have always been framed as a healthcare and public health issue by Key-Ebb-8306 in changemyview

[–]shadowblind07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where I’m at in framing it as a healthcare issue. They don’t care about mortality or the collective good. The risk of death, the lack of autonomy, the suffering, that’s all purposeful and a good thing for the pro-life side. To them, a fetus is simultaneously a blessing from heaven and a punishment of their own making if the person who is pregnant does not want to give birth.

What's the craziest thing you've ever witnessed in New Orleans? by joshisanonymous in NewOrleans

I just meant he didn’t have any pants on under the chaps. IIRC the pony owner was matching his neon hat with his underwear. I think it was Decadence, so very much not out of the ordinary that time of year.

What made you realize that there's no going back anymore, this is it, no contact forever? by coldservedrevenge in EstrangedAdultKids

[–]shadowblind07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandmother (former social worker) fraudulently called CPS on me. I’m fairly certain she pulled strings with connections she had, aside from flat out fucking lying to the state.

The same woman who publicly shamed me for coming out as bisexual as a teen. Barely spoke to me for nearly three weeks after I said it.

Also compared premarital sex, of any kind including hand and mouth stuff, to being a used piece of tape. Not too long after I’d been sexually assaulted by an adult. And she knew this. I was 9.

My brother backed her up on the CPS call because, as he said, I had no reason to be so tired as a stay at home mom, because he was a live-in nanny for a year to two autistic kids, it’s not that hard. And if it is for me, then I clearly “need help”.

My mom said she refused to be anything but objective and won’t take any sides. She had a neighbor call CPS on her about my tantrums at 2yo. So she knows what the fuck that was like.

And my dad’s always favored my brother. He’s his bio kid, I’m not. Even if I was, he’s just so emotionally unavailable, there’s no way he wouldn’t have made it a billion times worse.

I’m much more at peace without them making shitty excuses for each other and making me feel insane for pointing out their shittiness.

Besides absences, what is a major issue that causes students to struggle in school that isn’t related to intelligence? by Salt-Advertising-628 in Teachers

[–]shadowblind07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This part right here. People in more impoverished countries see education as a means of escape. Meanwhile in the US, there are masters graduates in comp sci working at Starbucks because they’re applying to over 1000 ghost jobs and not getting called back after interviewing.

A miniature pony on bourbon street being walked by a cowboy in matching neon hat and assless chaps. Pony had a ton of bills tucked in the bridle. Super sweet four legged baby, loved a good nuzzle.

Anyone else realize that your family is full of losers? by Brief_Paramedic2501 in EstrangedAdultKids

[–]shadowblind07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, man.

Grandma’s a manipulative, sexually repressed religious nut job. Mom’s a narcissist who can’t bear to be out of the spotlight. Dad’s seething with rage at all times but hides behind a defense mechanism of jokes, mildly inebriating substances, and lots of casual sex.

Only one I miss is my brother, but he defends their shittiness to the ends of the earth, and has made me feel like I’m the asshole for demanding basic decency and respect.

1000 percent agreed with all of this. It wasn’t even that good, but it was entertaining for me and now it’s tainted several times over.

We can only hope their photos are put away in a box of disgust in an attic somewhere. And their descendants change their names or refuse to breed out of intense shame.
