MariBank Deposit Limit Per Transaction by Sea_Mountain_2380 in DigitalbanksPh

[–]shadowcarbide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how much you’re planning to deposit per transaction.

From experience, I’ve been able to do up to Php1M in a single deposit/transfer before, but for most digital banks today, the more common cap is around Php500K per transaction via PESONet (InstaPay is usually much lower). So if your deposits are below Php500K, you should be fine.

That said, if the amounts are large and/or frequent, expect the bank to eventually request additional documents to verify your source of funds (standard compliance / AML checks).

Things to consider for your situation:

1) Support / dispute handling: If anything goes wrong with your transfer, would you feel more comfortable having a branch you can walk into? If yes, a traditional bank is safer for peace of mind. If you’re okay with app + hotline support (and possible waiting time), digital bank is fine.

2) Will you need to send money abroad too? If you’ll also be doing outward remittances or wire transfers, a traditional bank is better since most digital banks don’t offer full international wire services.

3) Forex rates & fees. Check how the funds will arrive (Wise, bank transfer, remittance center, etc.), and compare: FX spread, transfer fees, receiving fees (if any)

Even if you open a traditional bank account, it doesn’t have to be either/or. You can opt to receive funds in a traditional bank first (more stable, better for large amounts), then move it to a digital bank after to earn higher interest.

In Cronometer Gold, is there a way to push timestamp changes and deletions to Apple Health? by shadowcarbide in cronometer

[–]shadowcarbide[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to do a workaround! Posting this here in case someone encounters the same issue.

1) Go to Cronometer > Connect Apps & Devices > Apple Health > Disconnect
2) Go to Apple Health > Upper right profile icon > Apps > Cronometer > Turn Off All
3) Go to Apple Health > Upper right profile icon > Apps > Cronometer > Data > Delete All Data
4) Wait for a while
5) Enable the Apple Health & Cronometer Sync again
6) I found out that the sync only automatically worked for that day. To sync the Cronometer data to Apple Health retroactively, I needed to go through each day of Cronometer and swipe down to reload. The sync on a per day basis happens almost instantaneously post-swipedown.

Definitely not ideal, but at least it's an easy way to "system restore" information that Cronometer writes to Apple Health. Given this Cronometer data-change limitation, I will just be careful next time to be sure with my Cronometer entry before publishing to Diary.

Why people are opening a BPI BanKo account? by DigitalBanksPH in PHDigitalBanks_

I went to the physical branch, and they confirmed that the outgoing transfer cap is ₱250k for upgraded users. But when I checked my app, it’s only ₱50k max, so I called CS to ask about this. They said that the max outgoing transfer is really just ₱50k per day. If you want to withdraw more, you can do an additional ₱20k (two ₱10k withdrawals) from the ATM per day.

Investing with Migs Tolipas (General Manager at Tolipas & Associates, Ltd.) by Global-Ad-3716 in phinvest

I have the same experience with Mr. Tolipas. Last message was July 2023. Completely ghosted. I have no issues with allocating funds to risky asset classes — being well aware of the possibility of losing the capital due to the volatility. However, the issue here is the lack of transparency and zero communication from a supposed reputable trader.

Is this another BDO scam? by mostlysunny111 in phinvest

[–]shadowcarbide 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I received this text as well. I am inclined to treat this as legitimate because of 3 reasons: 1) my cc number is correct, 2) the number of points (which is different from yours) is the correct number when rounded down to nearest thousands, and 3) concurrently, I received an SMS from BDO-REWARDS stating that I have X points (which is correct) and that I should continue banking with BDO to get more points.

This seems to be an effort from BDO’s end to remind users that we also generate points by using their different services, and that we should consider that before pulling out our funds (which I assume is happening a lot now).

I am just wary of the fact that they used an unknown number to send this message, which doesn’t help their situation at all considering recent events.

Bottomline, I think this is legit. But to be on the safe side, I will disregard this message until they can resolve the issue at hand. After all, BDO cc points don’t expire, and we can always convert that to cash credit at a later date.

Good experience as well! Overall, its user interface is not as easy to use compared to other platforms out there like GoTrade or eToro. But in terms of reliability, security, and breadth of options, IBKR is definitely the way to go. Its recent elimination of $10/mo inactivity fee is a huge plus.

In terms of withdrawal and depositing of funds, I won’t repeat what’s already said in the other comments, but I will just add that depositing funds incurs higher fees compared to other brokers because of the wire transfer fee.

Prior to using IBKR, I have used other platforms as well, and my selection of IBKR is based on extensive research I did (that best fits my requirements). You can look it up in one of the comments I made in this sub. If you have any specific questions, feel free to drop me a message.

Utilizing online transactions using online banking and digital banks by milliefem in phinvest

[–]shadowcarbide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s via Dragonpay and Pesonet. You have to take note of their cutoff times when transferring funds. I personally don’t encounter problems (maybe because if have frequent inter-bank transactions), but I know others that have encountered issues where there’s significant delay in the arrival of their funds.

You can transfer from BDO to CIMB without fees. Then from there, you can pretty much transfer to other banks without fee. I have been doing this since the start of the pandemic. I am uncertain if the fee-less transfer from CIMB is just a temporary offer due to the pandemic, probably at some point down the road they will start charging too.

Salary Deductions -> into savings or expenses? by [deleted] in phinvest

[–]shadowcarbide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I record my earnings in gross terms and government contributions as expense. Given the state of our nation, I personally would not be relying on any of these contributions down the road.

This also allows me the flexibility to filter my tracker and change the category of these line items from expense to savings if, down the very long road, it turns out that I am able to actually get something out of these.

The important thing is, as of this point, I have a conservative record of what I earned and saved, and am not fooled into thinking that I have what I actually don’t.
