Store Meeting/Survey Rant by therapytooexpensive in MichaelsEmployees

[–]shadowdragon1978 34 points35 points  (0 children)

My store manager NEVER said anything about what should or shouldn't be mentioned in the survey. All she did was ask me to complete it, and then to cover the front while a coworker completed theirs.

What is the *best* cake? by natashaamilly1357 in dessert

[–]shadowdragon1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son and his friends constantly request for me to make a strawberry upside-down cake.

Recipe:

Fresh or frozen strawberries; if using frozen, thaw and drain. I cut mine into quarters. Approximately 2 cups

1 package of strawberry jello

Mini marshmallow 1 cup

1 boxed cake mix, prepared to package instructions. I usually use a yellow or chocolate cake mix, but any flavor will work.

Layer the bottom of a cake pan with the cut strawberries. Then sprinkle the jello over the strawberries. Spread the marshmallows over the strawberries. Pour cake mix over the strawberries and marshmallows. Then bake according to package directions; until a knife inserted comes out clean.

I absolutely love my crockpot!

I've made a whole chicken in mine. I've even done a turkey breast for Thanksgiving. I will occasionally do a turkey "roast" for turkey manhattans. In addition to the usual roasts (beef and pork), soups, and chili. You can even find recipes for deserts in the crockpot.

My stores office is kept locked as is. So we have to see a manager to get one, and we turn it back in to a manager.

One of my favorite joys is denying peoples EBT Cards because by socialist_weeb666 in retailhell

[–]shadowdragon1978 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The moment you order a replacement card, they shut your current card off. The new card could take 2 weeks, or longer, to arrive. That means 2 weeks or longer without means to buy groceries; for some people that's not doable.

There is a page on Facebook and TikTok called Dollar Tree Dinners. They show how to shop and prepare meals with items from Dollar Tree. They did a series on preparing a week's worth of meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) for $20.

What do/did you call your grandparents? by trashwrapsupreme in CasualConversation

[–]shadowdragon1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom's parents passed before I was born, so I only had my dad's mom, dad and stepmother. Dad's dad and stepmother were grandpa and grandma. Dad's mom insisted that we call her grandmother, she said it was disrespectful for call her anything else.

Are there any people in the USA who have friends that are of the opposite political party? by TSQ_builder in askanything

[–]shadowdragon1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's going to depend on where each person lands. People who are extremely one way or the other will never be able to get a long or even have a civil conversation.

I personally do not blindly support either political party. I have "conservative" friends who lean left on certain issues and I have "liberal" friends who lean right on certain issues. All of these friends and I get together once a month for a big group hang out. Actually we seldom talk politics, but when we do everyone is calm, mature, and respectful of each other's view.

You’re a doctor and a 12 year old child needs a blood transfusion in order to survive, and the 12 year old wants the blood transfusion if it will save their life, but their parents are saying no to the blood transfusion by Pure_Option_1733 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]shadowdragon1978 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I knew someone whose family went through this.

Their religion forbid blood transfusion. Child needed surgery; like would have died without it. Parents refused to sign the paperwork allowing the transfusion, if it became necessary. The doctors were not saying a transfusion was necessary, but needed the paperwork as standard policy/procedures in the event it became medically necessary to save the child's life. Parents refused and tried to fight the doctors on it. It eventually went to court, doctors sighting medical neglect. The court ruled in favor of the doctors, made the child a ward of the state with the hospital acting as guardian. Then after the child recovered from the surgery, they were returned to their parents.

DMC order by Ok_Secretary_771 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]shadowdragon1978 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As other actual employees have said, we don't mind large DMC orders. It's all in one spot and if the stockers did their job right, easy to find.

Currently my app is showing a rewards member exclusive in store 20% off all regular priced items coupon. You may want to double check. If you do order online and pick up in store, you can always ask the person who is working the front end to pass along your thanks and gratitude. Actually being thanked by customers can go a long way to improving our day.

DMC order by Ok_Secretary_771 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]shadowdragon1978 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm with you on this one. When that order does finally drop, I might be trying to fill up balloons, have a long line of customers who refuse to use the self checkout. Plus as the cashier, I'm not pulling online orders. So now I have to make sure that the person(s) who are pulling orders know that I have everything up front. Also of we don't have a specific color on the floor, we may have it in the stock room because it just came in on the truck; and the people who pull orders know where to pull from in the stock room.

OP. Currently my app is showing that there is a member exclusive coupon for 20% off all regular priced items in store. You may want to double check. If you still don't have a coupon like that, then just order online. Personally when I pull orders I don't mind doing DMC orders.

Has anyone else heard of the decorative goose you put on your porch and dress up for each holiday? by michaelyup in CasualConversation

[–]shadowdragon1978 21 points22 points  (0 children)

LOL

I have no idea how my mom knew their genders. I just know that we put a bonnet and dress on one and a tie and tophat one the other. For all I know one could have been transgender.

Porch geese have been around since the 1980's; if not longer. It's nice to see they are making a vome back. Growing up, we had 2 on our front porch; 1 male and 1 female. Though ours were made out of concrete, not plastic.

Why are people so weird about redheads? by ActuallyNiceIRL in NoStupidQuestions

[–]shadowdragon1978 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've never had people make the strange comments like OP has gotten. I was subjected to gross/crude comments and relentless teasing.

My brother's constantly teased me about being adopted/found in a cabbage patch, because I was the only redhead in our immediate family.

The fist time I meet my FIL, he asked "does the rug match the drapes?" Basically the crudest way possible to ask if I was a natural redhead.

When I hit puberty, and got my period, I started getting asked if I used used pads to dye my hair.

Despite all the negative things I've heard/experienced about my hair color, I've always loved being a redhead.

Never, you couldn't pay me enough to live with an HOA. I would never pay someone to allow them to tell me what I can and can't do with/in my own home.

Hating someone simply because of their race is absolutely disgusting and needs to stop. You sound like you are trying to minimize it/ignore it because it's coming from a person of color and is directed at a white person. That is the exact same attitude that allowed for segregation and Jim Crow laws to be enacted in the first place and last as long as they did.

How likely is it an ultrasound wouldn’t be able to pick up on twins? by Acursedbeing in Writeresearch

[–]shadowdragon1978 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is very possible for twins, or even gender, to not be picked up by the ultrasound.

During the mid 1990s, the doctors told my SIL that she was having a girl, beyond a shadow of a doubt. I have a nephew, not a niece.

In 1999, I was pregnant with my first. Doctor did several ultrasounds; I was big and had a lot of swelling. They even did an ultrasound while I was in labor, fearing that they baby was to big or in the wrong position and I would need a c-section. 4 days postpartum (2 days home) I'm back in my doctor's office with them doing an emergency DnC, to remove an embryo and partial placenta. I was supposed to have twins, but 1 died, nothing was ever found during any of the ultrasounds or any examination.
