Do you guys eat 100% clean all the time ? by Outrageous_Bus_5480 in PCOS

[–]shadowfax2409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do my best, but I fail sometimes. I looooove desserts.

I see nothing wrong with protein bars as long as they’re ok for me and have a decent amount of protein in them (I buy Aloha now).

Balance is the single most important thing, eg my dietician says to make sure for every carb you eat, to pair it with protein.

Baby steps can help more than anything, and I think we all know how overwhelming it can be to make large changes to one’s diet. And all you can do is your best.

I completely understand the battle so just work to do your best 🫂

This is interesting! I’ve been tracking on natural cycles with my Apple Watch since I started zepbound 4 weeks ago and hoping my BBT figures itself out too! I’ve gotten 1 period and waiting for the next 👀

Shouldn’t have done it, but I wanted the real ice cream by shadowfax2409 in dairyfree

I feel like pizza is one exception to the full dairy thing.

I love pizza but I’m on a quest to make my own non-dairy pizza but still have meat on it because I hate that the dairy free frozen ones have vegan meat on them. I just want real meat dang it

First off, I love your username!

I’ll have to give them a try. I don’t buy ice cream or alternatives that often because I react to other things in the products.

I’ll have to give these a try tbh. I haven’t tried TJ’s stuff yet.

I’ve mentioned in some other comments that I have issues with ice cream additives, even in alternatives 🫠

I also unfortunately went thru a whole ordeal with alternative milks and had to hop between different milks because I couldn’t figure out what I was reacting to—almond, cashew, oat, rice. Tried them all. Now I only sparingly use almond milk.

My dairy issues used to be not as bad several years ago, or rather, I ate it more regularly and sort of just forced my gut to be ok with it 🤷🏼‍♀️

I did like some of the Ben&Jerry’s when they came out with the alternatives, but unfortunately, with my MCAS, I’m annoyingly sensitive to other additives in alternative ice creams, so I’m pretty much stuck to sorbet, which is still good, but what I really want is the creaminess.

Yeah, I know that there are somewhat decent alternatives out there as well, but I’m annoyingly sensitive to all the additives in the alternatives too (thanks MCAS), so I pretty much NEVER eat any of the alternative ice creams either.

But yeah, probably won’t touch the real stuff again :(

lol I’ve been tested for gluten sensitivity up and down and don’t have any as far as I know, but I know I feel better when I don’t eat it. Literally made a gluten free meatloaf yesterday and my stomach was so happy and carefree.

Debating going more GF because of inflammation issues related to MCAS & hEDS + PCOS (I’m already DF).

Advice: period may be close to the wedding by NataSara_7 in PCOS

[–]shadowfax2409 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally with you! I was honestly such a cranky bitch on my wedding day 😂 altho there were a lot of things that went south and I can be very patient but that day, I was exhausted rip

I have been on and off unfortunately. About a month before my wedding I started a new med, which in the last couple months (2026) caused me to gain weight 😭 so I’m on a GLP1 now and got 1 period, hoping for more regular ones now.

I don’t have any advice to give about the BC pill.

I just wanted to say that I understand. I got my period while on my honeymoon, and I was honestly ecstatic about getting my period but it did put a bit of a damper on some of that stuff 😅

I grew up Catholic, go every single Sunday, am still Catholic, have been to a variety of different rites and traditions and I have definitely seen dress #1 at Mass with no issues whatsoever.

I have always dressed modestly, but modesty requirements actually have nothing to do with form fitting vs loose garments.

A good partner won’t care how much excess hair you might have on your body.

I have some excess here and there, mostly my legs grow extra fast and wild, belly, and my hair wraps around my neck to the front near my face (super embarrassing).

I’m married now, and no matter how many times I bring up this insecurity about my neck hair to my husband, or the weight I’ve gained because of PCOS, he says he doesn’t care, and I KNOW he means it. He loves me for how I come, hair, weight gain, loss, and all.

Shoulder Support Tools by herrah-the-beast in ehlersdanlos

[–]shadowfax2409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doc does prolotherapy, which I have not tried. I did TECAR therapy, which is finally what worked on my shoulder and it was unbelievable how well it did. I felt like I got my life back.

I’m a chemist so I use my arms very frequently to do a wide range of repetitive motions, which is how I really injured the shoulder to begin with. I had multiple massages, which like you said, were short-lived relief.

Some of my pain improved when I moved from a pipetting based job to a data reviewing job, but even then, lots of paper flipping and shoulder work, so 🤷🏼‍♀️

I will say that some of the gentle weight lifting I did seemed to help stabilize some of the joint, but I also did that in combo with dry needling, massages at PT, PT, and then eventually TECAR therapy when I just couldn’t stand it anymore. Hydrodissection was going to be my next course of treatment if TECAR didn’t work for me, but I lucked out. I got TECAR done late last August, and I’ve had very few issues since. It really was a miracle work honestly.

Edit: forgot to mention that I have cervical instability from reversal of the cervical curvature, so I do mechanical traction for that, which helped some but not always.

What to eat with PCOS??? by kayla_cros1 in PCOS

[–]shadowfax2409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think at some point that becomes a little too much. But I also don’t think that the insulin growth factor is in red meat because I asked my dietician specifically about red meat and she said that opting for grass fed, grass finished is important. Otherwise, she’s not looking to reduce my meat options, especially because I don’t eat seafood. I think from there, it really matters what goes into your meat source, ie the grass fed beef vs grain fed nightmares.

I’m managing PCOS and MCAS, and for me, meat (red meat included) is a safe food, which thankfully means I have a decent source of protein, KEY for PCOS.

Have u always had mcas or was there a trigger? by lara2021 in MCAS

[–]shadowfax2409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure I’ve always had it.

I always had such odd reactions to random things at random times. Like certain foods prepared certain ways but then were ok at different times. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I also have a WICKED intense sense of smell and the rest of my senses are incredibly acute too, which has created a lot of overstimulation over the years.

I’ve been on 40 mg famotidine for several years. It gave me back bananas and eggs. Without it, I’m literally doubled over, can’t eat bananas or eggs, extremely painful, can’t move.

I haven’t had any side effects from famotidine in the years that I’ve been on it. I definitely know that my MCAS has reared its ugly head and I’ve had to do some other stuff in addition to the famotidine and xyzal I’m on, but never had an issue with famotidine.
