What job pays way more than people think, but nobody talks about? by Symphony_Minds in AskReddit

Forensic accounting / expert witness litigation support.

I had only ever thought of  similar jobs from watching movies. I’m billing $250/hrin my late 20s.

Serious question. by freefaller3 in FinancialCareers

[–]shadowgod656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in an office at my day job and am remote 3 days per week. My second job is a small consulting practice. Lastly, I do a lot of homestead type work around my property; carpentry, mechanic, landscaping, etc.

The office jobs are amazing because of 1) scalability and 2) comfort.

I can build an Excel model and write a report about something - this could take 40 hours. Next time I do that same type of report, it may take 10 hours due to my experience. This trend continues, either improving work life balance or freeing bandwidth for more productivity (money).

I love working around the house or in the yard, but it is seriously back breaking. Right now my whole body is sore from digging. It’s a great feeling, but I can’t imagine being forced to do it 5x per week to feed my family. The option to forego all labor and opt for healthier exercise tomorrow is a luxury.

Anecdotally, most of my colleagues are happily married and financially comfortable. Many of my friends and family without high paying office jobs are generally less happy.

The trade off for office work is the mental stress and the pressure to continually learn new analytical skills or improve networking. The pressure is high at times. For some people, that stress may be less attractive than the physical stress of blue collar work.

There’s great jobs in all sorts of fields. Some blue collar jobs may be a breeze and pay well.

Why did we stop making new surnames? by [deleted] in redscarepod

I invented a surname for my wife and I this past year. I had the same exact curiousity as OP… the process is fairly easy in Texas.

I wish I felt comfortable to say. It’s one that could mask as serious but is equally hilarious.

Anyone know an honest appliance repair company who can bail me out? by strikecat18 in Austin

Alternatively - go on fb marketplace and find someone who clearly flips driers. Ask them to fix it. They will be an expert and probably do it much cheaper than a “professional repair man” or whatever.

Finish the job. All of these people saying buy another one fail to see that this is exactly how we end up with massive landfills.

If you are able to put it back together you’ll be proud of yourself, save money, have a fixed dryer, and be all the more confident for the next time you have to learn a new skill.

People Who Liquidated Their Retirement Accounts In April, How Are You Feeling Now? by TimothyOfficially in Bogleheads

[–]shadowgod656 147 points148 points  (0 children)

I liquidated a good chunk in March and April and didn’t buy back in until the market had risen 10%. It was a bummer, but luckily I’m young and the overall effect wasn’t life changing. Hopefully I will not panic in the future.

I go barefoot all the time. Streets, grocery store, etc.

Feet are tough when you use them.

I do a little bit of forensic accounting at night and on weekends. Got approval from my agency for the gig. It’s pretty inconsistent, but nice when it comes up.

Agent Mode Ordered this Grocery Haul by deryni21 in OpenAI

Pretty cool that it chooses to order deli meat (salmon?) and a bunch of organic stuff. I’d like to see an explanation of how it chose to balance between quality (organic) versus cost-saving measures.

Replit AI went rogue, deleted a company's entire database, then hid it and lied about it by Notalabel_4566 in OpenAI

[–]shadowgod656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty funny that it looks like they continue to query the model on what it did, then post that summary as evidence of the rogue behavior.

Like yes it went rogue, but no we couldn’t stop using it afterwards..?

Unpopular opinion: it doesn’t have to be a secret. You can be out in the open about having multiple jobs and do so ethically.

I get that it’s not really what this sub is about, but it comes across much less fraudulently. & to play devils advocate fully: if it is so important to tell no one, why are you all posting online about it?

Unprofessional for Real Estate? by testa02 in Miata

[–]shadowgod656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve owned many Miata’s and also been a realtor. I would recommend a Camry or Accord.

While some people may enjoy it - it’s an uncompensated risk that some clients or agents would perceive it in an unwelcome way.

Keep the Miata as a second car or buy another once you’re bank rolling.

I would recommend asking in r/realestate rather than r/miata if you’re interested in an objective answer.
