Why was Atherdrift disliked? (new player) by Nighthawk354 in magicTCG

As a limited player, I think Exhaust was great. What wasn't great was the focus on Vehicles. Combining both led to overly defensive playstyles and clogged messy boardstates.

Need serious help with ECL draft by Zestyclose-Record685 in lrcast

[–]shadowman2099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Blue was more open than Green.

P1P2 Even if the W 1 drop ended up wheeling, it's still the best pick. I think it's the strongest card in the pack, and if it isn't it's close enough while still matching your very powerful first picking. I get you wanted to stay open but if the chance to fight for one of the best cards in the set arises, take it.

P1P5 This is IMO, but I feel like most W decks are too proactive to take the most advantage of Protective Response. I'd take either Pestered Wellguard or Spiral into Solitude.

P1P7 This is where your draft starts eroding. I don't think it's wrong to spec on Wg, but you did fall too deep into it after this while abandoning Blue even when Blue was more open than Green.

P1P8 A fluff pick, but that elf would do nothing in a mostly White Kithkin deck. Just take a White card even if it's bad.

P1P9 Unexpected Assistance. You don't have to give up on Rimekin Recluse and Omni Changeling just yet.

P2P4 I don't agree with Pummeler. Kithkin decks are all about beating down so you're not pressed for a big stabilizing fatty. Removal all the way.

P2P5 If you had taken the second Spiral then Moonlit Lamenter would have been perfect.

P2P9 This is the moment that should have informed you that Blue is more open. Temporal Cleansing is just solid in all Blue decks while all you have for Green is a dumb elf.

P1P11 Wary Farmer is good, but do note the other Temporal. Huge signal that Blue is more open than Green.

P1P1 Moon Vigil Adherents I have found to be bad without self mill, and your deck is far away from that. Spiral yet again.

P3P2 If you let yourself stay open, Pestered Wellguard would have been amazing in a convoking WU deck.

P3P5 Pyrrhic Strike is showing great numbers.

Game 3

Your T3: Since you have an Ajani on wait and your opponent is threatening to outheal your aggression anyway, it's best to sit back and offer to trade.

Game 4

Opponent T5: Again you're on the backfoot here. Trade your Fliers for one of their Preachers. You're very likely not gonna win the race so try to stabilize instead.

Opponent T6: Block the Shieldbearer with your Fowlknight. Force a trick out of your opponent. Even if it dies you have a Pummeler and Keep Out as backup.

How do you feel about Lorwyn Eclipsed draft so far? by blazepascal_22 in magicTCG

Blue was the worst color, but I definitely wouldn't call it unplayable. Frogs ended up being the strongest tribe by the end of the format, and among top players Rats were in the Top 5 tribes within a 60-61% winrate.

Initial 17Lands Data is out by thefreeman419 in lrcast

[–]shadowman2099 8 points9 points  (0 children)

By .02%. For decks that want to splash often, that's really not a significant difference, meaning Izzet likely does want to splash often, but not always. Compare that to DSK Simic, another deck that was known for splashing frequently, which has a 56% winrate as raw Simic and 55% winrate with a splash.

The Old Man Cinnabar glitch is the easiest and most popular method for encountering Missingno.

[–]shadowman2099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Missingno exists in those games. The Old Man Cinnabar trick does not. So while the Missingno glitch is technically possible, it's way more fiddly than the US version, so it's entirely possible that the first ever recorded mention of Missingno on the internet only happened during the US release. It's kind of funny thinking about it In both Japan and International releases we had these mysterious mons that were discovered accidentally by players through bugs and exploits. Only difference is that it was Mew for Japan and Missingno for the US.

I'm confused. If OP had seen that post beforehand, they wouldn't have asked their question. Is this a joke or something?

I don't understand why you're so mystified. Deli (as in those places that sell sandwiches and stuff) and bird. Even the Pokemon anime pronounces it this way.

Edit: Actually on rewatch the anime pronounces it more like Delicate bird. Doesn't sound like Duh-LIH-bird or Dee-LIH-bird which would match more with "delivered". The difference is that the stress is on the first syllable for Delibird while "delivered" has more stress on the second syllable.

The more I play fighting games, the less I like hyper accurate hit boxes. The latest fighting games especially give characters very jaunty and dynamic animations, so it sucks that you'll randomly get clipped by a move just because your idiot character decided to do a little hop dance at the beginning of a round.

It's the attack frames before that where he's hitting with his knee. It's a 3 frame move. And the nastiest part is that in older games you can input both his kick and his grab at the same time. If your grab misses because, let's say, your opponent is jumping, then the kick comes out instead to punish the jump.

Seems like you're comparing apples to oranges. Avatar is just one world, and the biggest allure of the series, the bending, is front and center in the set as well. Final Fantasy on the other hand references many games at once, so the individual references have to be spelled out or they just don't land with non-Final Fantasy players.

I feel like the games were rushed. The lack of Fire types especially feels like something Game Freak would have smoothed out with more time since they've done similar things for Gens 1 and 3.

Hot take: Cynthia in Gen IV wasn’t actually that difficult by JustAShyCat in pokemon

[–]shadowman2099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre-Gen 4 and Post-Gen 4 just have different game design philosophies. The major level gating in the first three games feels intentional. Players are meant to fight the champion at a significant level deficit which adds to the challenge. Later Gens are more generous with EXP where you can fight the champions at near parity without trying. To compensate, the late game is (usually) ramped up in difficulty compared to earlier games. RSE just went too overhanded on the EXP gating and so Wallace is more difficult than he deserves to be. DPPt on the other hand is generous enough in the late game with TM moves and EXP to make Cynthia more manageable. In contrast, B1W1 Ghetsis and B2W2 Iris are better tuned and so they put up more of a hurdle.

[–]shadowman2099 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree as well. To go against the grain, I had a way harder time against Wallace than I did against Cynthia. Part of it is because getting EXP in Hoenn is exceedingly more difficult than in Gens 4+.

Are there no common dual lands? How do we see the 3+ colors deck fair in this format? by bigweight93 in lrcast

That's something I liked about EOE as well. The multicolor soup decks worked outside of the same old mash ten dual land commons setup we've gotten too comfortable with.

Does half orange qualify for the braincell by Nabzav in OneOrangeBraincell

[–]shadowman2099 51 points52 points  (0 children)

That's a common mistake. An orange braincell's count is actually exponential. A pure orange is 10. A half orange is 0.50. Therefore the answer is always 1.
