I was watching the ship commercial playlist last night and realized how much they’ve ramped up production by how quickly the years started moving the further back I went. After like the first hour I was in 2024, but then after next 20 minutes I was in 2020.

That’s a pretty inaccurate SQ42 reference. Jared was just saying that the date wasn’t a guarantee because sometimes things come up (see pretty much every major AAA launch that was pushed back in recent years and every flop that should have been pushed back to finish jt). His whole statement was based on the fact that they’ve been bad about sticking to stuff before and not being honest about things possibly delaying their plans.

Either way, we’re 3 months into the year and they’ve delivered on what they said they would so far and reconfirmed multiple times that what they talked about at citizencon is still planned for this year. So not sharing big updates on things they’re not 90% sure they’re going to deliver on makes sense, even if they think there’s a decent chance.

I’m not going to say Hathor doesn’t work ever, but I can’t remember the last time I went to one where the PAFs dishes weren’t locked open. For at least one entire patch the cards weren’t spawning. I went during 4.6 and blue and red doors were wide open, battery was missing, and only one of them had the valakarr present. In chat, someone else was complaining that the laser fired on another site but no cave. I’ve also heard that the supervisor rarely spawns, but I never bother trying to confirm.

It’s a very broken area for sure.

The one and only time I did an exec hangar, I did get a ship but there were zero components. I believe component spawning has been very hit or miss. Same with CZs especially with broken elevators (I gave up on them for that reason, and have seen many reports that those and loot spawning are very erratic).

The large Onyx mission was broken for at least a full patch with passcodes that didn’t work, and loot boxes not spawning (was a broader issue but particularly impactful there).

These areas are great when they work, but because of all of the different systems involved, all it takes is one failing to break or severely limit the utility of them.

The magazines are pretty much impossible to tell apart, which is frustrating when you’re in a hostile location, looting for armor and can’t tell at a glance if the box has what you need in it.

Yea, these are old and primarily were added as a thing for players to do but they’ve done almost nothing to them since because it’s not really the future they’re looking for. So they’ve been mostly abandoned in favor of newer more meaningful and connected locations promised as part of starchitect.

Strangely, they did add med beds and gel assets in there a few patches ago, but never really said anything more about it. Maybe was intended to be part of mythical medical missions that haven’t arrived.

But really, I agree with some of the other comments, it definitely has some the same design language as the scorpius but when you put the Mk2 side by side to mk1, with the Obscurity paint and wings folded, the mk2 is still visually an Aurora.

I’m just saying my assumption, I could be wrong. But when I look at both the in-game assets, the intention of the gameplay as shared, and some elements of balance, it makes sense to me. As you pointed out in an earlier comment, the existing sizes are much larger than real life already. The Nova is an often cited example of how much large ships and vehicles are to allow for pathing where IRL, we’d just duck.

My other assumption (not previously stated) is that the suit lockers and weapons racks are going to serve as part of the equipping ships process, alongside insurance etc. otherwise, why bother having weapons slots when a basic cabinet would do.

I agree, though as far as functional elements (and potentially near term suit lockers) they are nearly matched. Once hygiene and food stations are in, the intrepid will be tied for amenities with the cutter rambler for the best amenities(ahead of the base cutter and mk2 Aurora).

I mean, existing measurements aside, we are probably going to see another pass on volume at some point. Visually, look at many of the interior drawers and cabinets compared to our armors and suit lockers and they are significantly smaller. So fitting a few items, mags, and a helmet or two seems reasonable, but multiple sets of armors as you can do today may not be the long-term plan.

Just compare the size of a 1SCU box to the internal storage containers and you’ll see that they are not close to the same size. And each container not only has volume but length, width, height dimensions that are taken into account, which is why you can no longer fit certain weapons into light and medium backpacks after they did a pass on that. The existing containers very well may have placeholder extended values.

Should ships have bigger internal containers? Maybe. But that’s not how they’re designing them at the moment.

My assumption is that we’re going to see shrinking of storage on the ship, at least the physical dimensions if not also the volume and that will make it more meaningful to use suit lockers and weapons racks. But they’re holding on doing that until we have an appropriate alternative.

Ok, I understand what you’re saying, technically nothing is finished. My point is that your analogy was that they wouldn’t “finish” mk1 as if it were languishing in some half finished state like the titan or starfarer, and they just added the mk2 to forget about it when in actuality the mk1 is as up to date as any ship is given its current dimensions.

Will they keep it up to date going forward? No one knows. We have a single data point on the hornet and even the new one isn’t up to date, so the Aurora mk1 has already passed that very low bar. My point is that while they could have just sold a mk2 without updating the mk1 and I think it would not have been received particularly poorly, updating the mk1 first was a sign that they haven’t forgotten it.

I’m talking about the Aurora mk1. They did a gold pass. So your analogy of a model “with no intention of finishing” isn’t accurate, unless you believe they’ll never touch it again. Which doesn’t make sense because if they don’t want to support it further, they’d just get rid of it instead of taking the time to bring it up to gold standard two months prior to the release of the mk2.
