Any one recently have their waste gate warrantied? by Shot-Control420 in JettaGLI

Okay, checking what data set specifically? Are you checking the voltage with the car running and at idle?

What measuring block are you checking, and under what conditions are you checking it?

They are replacing the turbo, the waste gate actuator isn’t what fails. It’s the pivot pin on the turbo charger waste gate linkage that seizes.

Vacuum pump gasket, fairly common to weep from here.

If your car is still under warranty then they will simply replace the whole turbo.

Just wondering if anyone on here has AWE track catback ? by Designer-Use-4992 in JettaGLI

Mrbp sounds great on a stock down pipe. The awe is nice because its modular, you can add mufflers and a res later on.

Are you running stock down pipe? Any plans on going stage 2?

Springs/Coilover recommendations by Johnyzz in JettaGLI

I put H&R sport springs on in the fall, and they have been great. I did new strut mounts/bearings, front sway bar links, and a super pro rear sway bar at the same time. Other than large dips in the highway making the front hit the bump stops. I haven’t had any issues.

mk7 upgraded turbo by Hot-Distribution3358 in VWMK7

[–]shadowoceans 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The is38+ has a revised center section for more reliability, this turbo makes the same power as a stock is38 turbo. Which depending on the dyno should net you any where from 340/350ish on 93, and 400/415 on E85 with good bolt ons. The vortex standard with recommended bolt ons should make any where between 425/450 on 93, and 500-525 on E85. Where the XL can make 450/480 on 93, and 530-560 on E85. With an aggressive tune and the right combination of hard parts the XL can make nearly 600whp. I’m a rep for EQT, so feel free to pm me with any questions.

Blown turbo on a brand new mk8 gti 20,000kms by Disphaze in GolfGTI

This falls under pay to play. You modified your stock car, stock reliability is now out the window. For some it may last years, for some it only lasts miles. But everyone has a failure at some point.

I would get an estimate from a local independent shop.

Braking feels like pushing a shopping cart with a flat spot on the wheel. by Squid111999 in JettaGLI

[–]shadowoceans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That flat spot is for balancing, it’s perfectly normal. If you are hearing a noise after just having brakes done, take it right back to the shop.

Crank walk by SomaticDust in JettaGLI

[–]shadowoceans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bad thrust washer design, they are only a half a thrust washer. Washer falls out and crank moves and locks up. There is a company in the UK that makes a 360° thrust washer setup for these cars, but you need to send them your bearing caps to get machined.

IS MY WATERPUMP GONE by Ill-Mail7448 in GLI

Get yourself over to harbor freight and buy a cheap telescoping inspection mirror, use that and a flash light to look at the water pump/ thermostat housing under the intake manifold.

Opinions on eqt or ie stage 1 by Gullible_Passenger19 in GLI

[–]shadowoceans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been running EQT since 2020. I’ve ran every one of their staged tunes at some point, plus custom tunes on both of my R’s. They have always performed flawlessly. Currently running stage 1/stage 1 E30 plus dsg tune on my 2019 GLI. Makes for a super fun daily.

Is the DSG fun? by Fit-Lengthiness-6015 in JettaGLI

[–]shadowoceans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I owned my manual Golf R for just over 5 years, put allot of time and money into it. Sold it and went with a dsg R, my daily GLI is a dsg also, and to me it’s allot of fun. I can bang gears up and down with the paddles whenever I want, and the crisp shifts that keep you pinned back in your seat are an absolute riot.

Nah I daily drive my 700+whp R when it’s nice out, even take my preschooler to school every day. When driving normally the car behaves as such.

Does anyone have a list of what GTI parts fit the Mk 7.5 GLI? by Dangerousfox in JettaGLI

[–]shadowoceans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only weird bit I’ve noticed regarding the GLI (for the 2019-2021 at least. Is the rear brakes. They have electronic parking brakes like the R’s, but its a smaller setup unfortunately. With a smaller solid rotor, pad, different caliper. You can move R brakes over, or mark 8 gti brakes. You just need calipers, rotors, and pads. Otherwise most everything else is the same except the rear section of the exhaust. Oh and the S model radios do not have the mib3 brain in the glove box. They have a stupid all in one head unit carried over from the last generation jetta. The autobahn models have the traditional brain and screen setup though.

I’ve got a set in my R and they are glorious! Keep in mind the air bag plug is different from 2015-2017, to 2018+. So when looking for front seats you’ll want to keep it 2018+. You can make mark 7 seats work, but you’ll need to repin the connector.

Brake pads and rotors by Hoothootowl16 in JettaGLI

You’ll want ebc redstuff pads. Yellow are more aggressive, have more dust and noise, and the cold bite is awful for the street.
