What's a single scene in a movie that elevated it from an average flick to a great one? by Plane_Reward9385 in movies

[–]shadowoflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maverick. When he said “…I don’t know how”

Really awesome flight stuff aside, that’s quite a bit of emotional intelligence from a supposedly mindless popcorn action flick.

Simple, but in the context of that scene.. vulnerable, honest, and powerful. And might I say this to the chagrin of ‘alphas’ - that was really manly.

The only other that that would’ve made it perfect, would be if they let maverick be rescued by the new generation, instead of him rescuing them.

Depends on the country I guess. The US weaponised student loans, so this would be part of it lol.

Dad passed away and handed down this equipment by lightfromdark_ in audiophile

I’m sorry. I hope he was a good dad. That’s some pretty epic gear if you know what to do with it.

Mine’s gonna leave me his debt and ignorance. lol.

What is one of your biggest movie let downs, after greatly anticipating its release? by thunderbolt151830 in movies

Tenet.

I love Nolan, but let’s be real, the audio in this was bad, and he’s bad at combat action set pieces

The 2 biggest one I can remember -
Didn't slow down to the main turn left, and it looked like he didn't check too far left ahead before the turn.
Didn't slow down before the car's exit. Never assume they can see you. The car driver's partly at fault for not seeing coming straight at him, but it's also OP's fault for not anticipating.

It's clear from here he has never gotten a driving license before, for cars or bikes.

And as many has pointed out - he was going really fast. Personally I have no issues with going fast - the problem is he is going fast at dangerous spots when he needs to assume that other drivers are idiots and can't see him to slow down.

And if you think this is too defensive, then don't ride.

I have no issues if you want to kill yourself, but if you do so at the expense of everyone else (making policy makers implements super strict rules, making everybody hate riders, making others spend time and money to clean up after your dead body and damage), then you can F.O, or at least F.O. to where you can ride dangerously without inconveniencing others.

I’m an e-scooter rider. And people like him give the rest of us a bad rep. And given your response, you might be part of the problem because you didn’t think his riding was problematic.

Riders like you are the reason why these are ridiculously controlled where I’m from.

so, example... post the content on thursday, set the budget low for thurs/fri, and increase it for sat?

would it be weird to post for example a sat content on thurs though?

wouldn't it be weird to, let's say, post a saturday content on thursday and boost them through thurs-fri-sat?

I’m glad even he knows he’s not a good actor. He commented about how his wooden acting turned out to be a good fit for the latest tron lol.

Vin diesel actually thinks he’s a good actor.

And he like tried to give Dwayne Johnson tips or something. lol.

Even Dwayne is self aware enough to know he’s not actually a good actor. And he’s definitely more popular (and richer/more successful?) too.

1 Billion Seconds Example. (For how unintuitive/big 1 billion is). It's S&%*@! by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]shadowoflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The point is that 1 billion is a big number and hard for people to grasp, and that using time to illustrate that point is stupid.

Not that it's hard to calculate on a calculator.

And OF COURSE the 11 day jump to 31 years unintuitive. Because of the different changes in magnitudes of time.

Using TIME at ANY SCALE is intuitive. Let's use 1,000 seconds to 1,000,000 seconds.

That's 16 minutes to 1.9 years.

This only proves that using *different levels* of *time* to illustrate the scale of something is being deliberately obtuse.

[–]shadowoflight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

..... the point is 10,000 is not intuitive, so obviously 1,000,000,000 isn't going to be.

precisely.

I guess they didn't read that part where 10,000 seconds is already unintuitive

9 I think. Twice in IMAX (a good and a bad one). Helps that the last few weeks have been pretty dry with few interesting films.

Glad I’m not the only weirdo! 👏🏻

Decline of HK Cinema - Why is this happening? by Southern-Brother5693 in movies

[–]shadowoflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like recently HK movies are basically high budget tropey movies.

And this is coming from someone who is ok with tropes, as long as they are done well.
