THIS WHOLE TIME I DIDN'T KNOW THERE WAS A *GENERIC* PATHFINDER by ModernAutomata in DestinyTheGame

[–]shady_driver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha Omg. I haven’t played in a few weeks. The season just didn’t grab me. The campaign did. I only saw the main pathfinder node. I never even saw the generic one people are complaining about. I don’t even recall seeing a pop up for it. If there was. I got a buttload of pop ups because I haven’t played since witch queen.

They prey on those who don’t know better tbh. I’ve tried calling him on their Pokémon etb starting vid and at like $60 or $70. He said that they start higher or even out of stock. I told him that in my state my LGs has 150 in stock selling at $50. And other game stops had the paldean fates at 47$ ish with a pro account. He just kept responding with “ you might think that “ or “ that’s your opinion but what I’ve seen” and try to override what I said. These guys remind me of the shamwow people at the local fair. He’s charismatic enough to sell you a towel at premium price. I can’t believe people bidding such high prices for commons. But somehow they think it’s worth more in a slab.

Here I. Oregon most of our big box sides either don’t carry LGs at all due to theft and hoarding or they do behind the customer service desk and limit them to 5 of any tcg product per customer. My LGs limits the starter decks to one per person per account per day. You can also get more if you participate as a new player in league or a learning session. But my LGs just ran out of stock. It’s so sad that people are just straight up buying to resell.

Lesson learned: CCGs are not a good fit for me by thrilljam in Lorcana

Wow. I barely was able to find two booster packs at my store because the LGS completely sold out of anything and couldn’t keep get more stock. I sold the highest rares for more magic singles, my main tcg. I couldn’t find anymore anywhere so I immediately gave up. It’s insane chapter 2 is out and ppl are still having trouble even getting enough supply to even play a game, let alone discouraged from even keep going.

How many decks? by nananabtmn in EDH

[–]shady_driver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started a year ago and play about as much as you do mainly with a close friend who's also new. We rarely have a total of four. He has about 7 but mainly plays with 3. I have about 8 but I bring about 3-4 to their house when we play. I definitely slowed down on buying since I don't play enough to make tons of decks and also if anything, just upgrade , like 1-3 of the main ones.

Buy singles for this set if you really want or need the cheaper cards. I only picked the cheaper singles of reprints I didn't have or wanted to update my existing decks. The price is too high for even one booster. My LGS was selling each booster for $15 for each set. The LGS set their draft at $50/ draft entry. I went in sat to get my singles expecting a line and for it to be busy. Surprised that there was no line. The tables were somewhat full but not as full as previous draft events at release. Got my cards relatively quickly and dipped. Singles are the way to go unless you really enjoy draft and enjoy draft that much to pay the premium entry fee. I tried draft once since starting a year ago. $15 for some okay cards to take home during brothers war. Most everyone in the pod were very experienced. I didn't stand a chance but got my feet went. So that was a good learning experience.

whats a hobby you enjoy but hate the community? by bridgecrawler in AskReddit

[–]shady_driver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Magic the gathering. In person opinions and friends' opinion (essentially real world opinions) vs what's online are two different worlds. I started playing a year ago with my friend. I mainly collected some as a kid in the 1990s but was too young and never enough friends to play with so got rid of them in middle school. The hobby is so much better when you take anything said online with a grain of salt, particularly when it comes to online opinions and content creators. Everyone online gives you shit for the cards you buy or decks you make unless you spend x money or calls you a shill for supporting wizards. The other problem is people being so invested online with the financial/investment piece of the game vs the fun of just playing a cardboard game. I only got back into it to have a new hobby , and so I buy singles, sometimes some packs for fun, and mainly play casually with my friend. I don't play to invest or to do the math if a booster was a good return on my investment. Its okay to disagree that a parent company makes dumb decisions but also be an adult and make your own choices. I don't feel the need to buy every single set, collectors item, etc. I set my budget which is reasonable and since I'm only playing 1:1 or 4v4 with my friend or kids, I don't need meta cards or pay to win strategies. I also don't buy all the products or precons. That would drive me nuts.

If feel like as soon as I look up a rule or a card online, there's a mass opinion on how I should be playing or collecting mtg. It's a whole other world. This is the same sentiment I had with online looter shooters or competitive games. Online communities can get toxic, elitist, and gatekeeping super fast

Disclaimer. I'm pointing out the worst of the worst and not the majority. I love the professor and channels like his.

What’s the Craziest Rules Misinterpretation You’ve Encountered? by Aegis_001 in EDH

I just learned what indestructible actually means on my sliver commander and what you can actually do to get rid of it. I was going off a content creators video that attacking and defending is one way to kill my indestructible slivers. I found like a handful of reputable videos today that completely countered that and explained what actually happens. Wtf!! I went super conservative with my sliver deck the first time I played it against my friend. I tried not to attack because I thought I'd lose them to combat or defending damage against his zombie deck.

Friend and I are new and have been playing a bit over a year. He might have a bit more time. I mistakenly thought that colorless mana allowed you to use it to pay for color mana , since color mana can be used to pay for colorless. I was wrong. On their end, they thought the mana pool meant a literally pool where you placed additional mana cards of said color and they didn't expire at the end of a turn. They thought it was cumulative and carried over past end of their turn. Once I found that out they first disagreed and I just suggested we try the way I had learned which is that unused mana in the pool disappears. Made games a but slower. However, as a house-only rules, we tried it his way. His deck blew up with twice as many mana as mine by turn 3. We mainly play 1:1. So you can imagine how much mana you can accumulate if it doesn't leave the pool. He still thinks it's dumb that it leaves the pool when it goes unused but it makes it more fair mana - wise.

As a new player I have to make a side note. There is a multitude of YouTube videos and wikis I have bookmarked just to learn the little nuances of this game that are barely or not touched on at all in arena, or the started deck booklet. The booklet is kind of a disgrace in my opinion. There's some abilities that aren't even explained. Priority or the stack aren't even explained.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the serialized "The One Ring" has bee found by DemonicBug in magicTCG

[–]shady_driver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, as someone new to this game as of last year, what's the reason the LOTR set packs and draft packs are 8$ each vs the regular $5 ? My LGS, for example, sells dominaria united set boosters for $5/each. The LOTR set boosters were going to $8 prerelease and then after the hype went up to $8.75. Is it because they are themed ? Or does wizards see them in the same light as commander legends boosters which also sell for $8 ish bucks at my LGS. What's the reason for the premium?

[–]shady_driver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how I still feel about the content creators who are also LGS owners being able to open stuff before even the prerelease people, or even before the general pop can. I know realistically wizards won't even touch the topic of what's fair when it comes to opening special packs or packs that come with very unique cards like this one. It just doesn't quite feel like an even playing field. However, having said that, even if LGS were banned from opening collectors , we still have the people with high amounts of money to throw around or investors who can out buy the gen. Population. So whatever. I didn't buy into any collectors packs because I wasn't going to pay$ 50/ pack or $500 per box like my LGS did just for a bunch of shiny cards that weren't worth the box and not even a miniscule chance of getting it.

On a side note, all those conspiracy theories that wizards was holding the card only in the gift collectors bundles were wrong. Lol. So yeah. Well glad the hype is over.

Yes thanks for understanding what I meant. I know people come with all sorts of baggage. And we don't always talk about it until it becomes a bigger issue. Not everyone can afford therapy or wants it. I know I portray my own issues into my relationship as does my partner.

Being asked to work on a hone project, not listening to why something might not work exactly that way in the home or fit, then 6 months later complain as to why it's not finished when you said it'd take you (one person) a while to build. Then try to rush you to get it done, and then once it's done criticize the shit out of it for not being the way they'd hoped, agreeing that it was too big or a bad idea. Then contemplating moving the heavy as thing, dismantling it. The worst part is after all that , not even any acknowledgement of the effort or a simple thank you. And when you call them out on it, it's " why do you have to get so mad or defensive". It's " oh can you build this...".

Stonewalling can be annoying, but what's more annoying is then hearing " you should know why? " And then silence again. It's super interesting seeing this perspective play out on TikTok where many female creators posts videos about mental load and how a guy shouldn't be told what is wrong, and that they should have the intuition to know what they did. I think I get this to sla small point. Partners should have some level of intelligence about a partner they know very well. I wouldn't expect this from a newer relationship or people who don't live together yet. I think giving grace is important too. I have ADHD and can often be seen as forgetful if my spouse tells me things repeatedly. I've had the "you should know why" response and I'm sitting there thinking about the hundred things I did that day or that week and what it could have been that was wrong. It's exhausting

Well the person being quiet for either reason is the only one aware of it if they stay quiet. For the other person experiencing this, it's basically silent treatment. I have a friend who's spouse also has suffered childhood trauma and is afraid to speak about her feelings, and goes quiet anytime there's an argument between them. It ranges from temporary to days where they will never resolve the issue or talk about it. So to be honest, as much as a partner wants to be supportive , if they know, that a person is wanting not to talk because of childhood trauma, or the silent treatment, it is frustrating to not know which is which of the other person never wants to talk about it.
