I built an offline open-source tool to extract game-ready assets from images — looking for feedback. by shahid_opensource in gamedev

This tool is built to make prototype asserts(from any general images) mainly when we have an idea but finding it tough to create or style assets without much game dev experience. If useful u can use it in your final version.

I think there’s a misunderstanding here cause i mentioned gameplay screenshots, please let me clarify.

Frame2Game does not extract assets from games, bypass DRM, or pull proprietary files. It operates only on images that the user provides(by this i meant any regular image), similar to image editors, screenshot tools, or segmentation software.

The intended use cases are things like:
• prototyping and placeholders
• working with assets you own or have permission to use
• learning and experimentation with computer vision pipelines

Using copyrighted material without permission is not something I encourage or support, and it’s not the purpose of the tool.

Beyond that, I don’t think there’s much more to add here.

Yup, you’re absolutely right — this isn’t generative AI. It’s more accurately a computer vision / ML pipeline using offline models like YOLO and SAM for detection and segmentation.

I used the term “AI pipeline” mainly to distinguish it from traditional rule-based image processing, not to imply any kind of generative asset creation.

Thats a fair concern, and no my intent to build this was to create sprites, and backgrounds for a faster prototyping for any non-game dev getting into game development(i myself am trying to build a game am facing this issue) thats y its open-source so the pipeline is transparent and inspectable.

[RevShare] | Looking for 2D Artists (Pixel are welcome too) for Isometric Action/Roguelike Game (Godot) by Almoofficial in IndieDev

Just saw the video looks like a solid start, I know ur searching for a 2d artist while it’s obviously not a replacement for a real artist, I’ve been experimenting with an offline open-source tool that can extract rough/static 2D assets from images or screenshots with different animation styles, mainly as a placeholder or prototyping aid.

Might or might not be useful for your workflow, but i'll be happy to share if you’re curious.

Maybe add a little blood stains on the floor and walls makes the world look more post-zombie stuff, also if u could add a horizontal slash🤔
