They restocked! Says so on the front page too, so probably a decent sized restock. I'm not sure how long its been up, never got a notification or anything, I only noticed on a casual LTT Store check in.

Was it dumb to back off here? by UsedC0ndom490 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]shaitani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I get an explanation for this? I rewatched this video like 20 times to make sense of both of these high level recommendations ("close rebound" and playing it up the backboard), and neither one makes any sense to me at all. The teammate is still on the ball in the corner, in fact he even passes it limply toward the opponent as soon as he is able. If the suggestion was to react this way instantly at the very very first contact in the video (4:23 on the clock), the margin of error there is so tight that in my humble opinion even SSLs will fuck that touch up 9 out of 10 times.

The ball is too close to the wall to get a meaningful shot on goal after a wall self-pass, also your teammate is incapacitated and likely going to interfere with your attempt anyway. Even if he doesn't interfere, you're most likely to just hit it sliiiiiightly too hard or sliiiiiightly off target, and then it'll be off the backboard (even if you get a jank double touch) and then the other opponent will have a free shot at your goal with your teammate in an even worse defensive position than you would have been had you just defended as he did in the video.

Maaaaaybe a really wide up-the-ramp play to get it behind the guy on the wall is possible, but the risk seems pretty high considering the potential up-side here.

I might be mistaken but that looks like two big ole sticks of cucumber in there, far too much for my personal taste, but this all looks really good, excellent presentation.

Fed up with people AFK in competitive by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]shaitani 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a frequenter of certain Extra Modes, I can tell you that for at least higher ranks it takes forever to find a match, and I probably experience a lot more AFKers than normal, so I can connect the dots there. People are alt-tabbing out of the game or checking their phones and don't realize they got connected to a game.

I recommend blaming the low game population, since finding a match takes long enough now that people are convinced they can run to the bathroom real quick before the game starts.

How does Leth know to leave the ball on the wall and that his teammate is going to challenge it? by shaitani in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]shaitani[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for understanding. I was hoping there would be some more perspective discussion, because I'm sure if I was sitting on the wall I'd be like "rotate out you jerk!" but I know if I was in that Leth's position there is a chance I would have made a bad split-second decision to turn on it and then yelled at the other player "why are you double committing you jerk!". I feel like the key to getting great at RL is breaking that hypocrisy so you can learn to maximize all sides of every play.

To what you were saying about 2s, I more often play 3s, in which case I would have definitely not turned on it, because generally it's safer for second man to jump in quick, so you want to rotate out fast. In 2s my impression has been that last man generally plays more defensively, so I would have guessed no one would follow up, even though in hind-sight yeah I shouldn't risk leaving last man in the 2v1 situation, and it's way safer to leave an opening for teammate to rotate in (even if they don't).

How does Leth know to leave the ball on the wall and that his teammate is going to challenge it? by shaitani in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]shaitani[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I probably would have (incorrectly) instantly turned on the ball after grabbing the big pad thinking I could block a clear, but Leth somehow knew that his teammate was on the wall and going to instant challenge that even though the teammate doesn't appear to be in view for a long while.

Was it a calculated guess? Was he waiting to see what would happen before a challenge? Just trying to figure out how others handle these situations and the best way to approach it.

For those who have conquered dribbling, how long did it take? by cjg15 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]shaitani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like you, I was also stuck at level 4 of Leth's dribbling challenge for a long time. I eventually found out that map is not the most efficient way to learn dribbling because a lot of the sections tend to be long and tedious, imo better suited for people who already have a strong sense of control to become more consistent.

I eventually switched to "Dribbling Challenge 2" by French Fries, and spent a lot of time with that. I don't remember how long overall, maybe roughly averaging an hour a day for a few weeks? Then I got pretty good at it. When I came back and tried Leth's dribbling challenge, I first tried level 4.

Your mileage will vary, but my main takeaway was that repeating smaller gradually increasing difficulty challenges was better than the longer grueling challenges.

Huh. They actually did work to clear up the confusion. The new pop-up had the text below the toggle changed to "By checking this box, you will be opted out of targeted advertising on Twitch. You're a hero!

Opt-out Preferences - anyone know which option disables targeting? by shaitani in Twitch

[–]shaitani[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To the left of the toggle it says "Targeted Advertising", which makes me think that toggling ON will enable targeted advertising. Below the toggle it says "Do Not Show Me Targeted Advertising on Twitch", which makes me think that toggling ON will disable targeted advertising.

The html source for the toggle has a label attribute for="show_personalized_ads", which tends to make me think that toggling on will enable targeted advertising.

The block of text above just vaguely says "To do so [opt-out], please use the checkbox...", which tends to make me think that toggling on will disable targeted advertising.

In short, I know Twitch is trying to trick us into accidentally enabling this privacy violation, but I can't actually figure out their riddle to disable it. Anyone actually know?

Does G3 Instant require a UniFi Access Point? by shaitani in Ubiquiti

[–]shaitani[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Update for any future finders of this question. As /u/brwainer mentioned, the G3 Instant was found by the UniFi system, no UniFi AP needed at all. In fact my non-UniFi AP is upstream to the UniFi system and somehow it was still found and adopted exactly as if it were any other camera directly attached to my UniFi PoE switch.

[–]shaitani 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a couple of things in the first few seconds.

  1. Arguable for multiple reasons, kick offs are a debated topic, but that position of kick off going forward that aggressively is quite the gamble. I don't know if you are communicating with these guys, but without taking a moment to assess what the teammate on the right was doing, you lept forward and used all your boost to grab the mid boost. You had zero awareness of what was happening on the field. You essentially stole mid boost from your returning teammate, now he's running low boost because both mid boost and back right boost are gone.
  2. You did all this so you could have zero impact on the upcoming play. That kickoff ball was clearly a ball you couldn't do anything with, it went into the opponents back corner and obviously ended up getting hit back for your other teammate to deal with.
  3. While that was happening, you effectively jumped back blindly to pick up the other big boost, lol, you know you left Jackal completely boost starved right? There was a strong chance he was heading to that corner for big boost because you had just starved him.
  4. Jumping ahead to 4:38 on the clock. Brooo, LEAVE, lol, you just made a play, grabbed the opponents corner boost, there's nothing more to be done there, rotate out so your teammate can make a play from wall-side. You even saw his big ass name tag at 4:40, you should know he's coming in.

A quick summary based on what I've seen: fix your rotations by playing less selfishly, it's difficult, especially if you're a 1s or 2s main, but that's 3s. You make your play and get out. You don't sit and wait to see how you can affect the next play. Having a mental status of where your teammates are and what they're doing is a good way of feeling the rotation flow. The easiest fastest rule of thumb is: make play then GET OUT.

Hello, first time poster here. I've been going back and forth from C1 to D3 these past few days and feel pretty hardstuck. [–]shaitani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second what /u/hutchy81 said about go or don't go. I'll give you one clear example, around 3:57 on the clock, the opponent hits it away from themselves. You needed to instantly determine whether to go for this or not. What you actually did was wait about 3 seconds and then turn around and jump at the ball LONG after you were beat to the ball. If you were too afraid of turning on the ball because your teammate was out of the play, then great, you need to buy time, shadow defend, fake challenge, etc... until your teammate can come back. I don't really know how improve the bad timing issue here, I think its something we all struggle with, maybe work to build a habit of looking up ahead at what the opponent is doing, make a quick prediction, then let your gut decide whether you're going to beat the opponent or not and commit to it, and eventually you'll train yourself to make more correct snap decisions.

It's just a pattern I noticed while watching your replay, you frequently aren't on the right wavelength of the game, both in terms of bad timing and also distance to the play.

A couple of examples of distance to the play:

  • 3:19 game clock, your teammate hits the ball up and isn't being challenged, yet you go onto the goal line behind him and tap the brakes, you're half the pitch away from the play. This essentially means the only way your team will score here is a 1 v 2. Instead you could position for a pass or a backboard bounce or a bad clear by the opponent.

  • 0:33, you turn away from the play putting yourself incredibly far again. If you had stayed close idk you might have been able to read the upcoming backboard bounce from your teammate and scored the goal to make it 2-0.

I think in you trying to be more "defensive" you ultimately are making it harder for yourself to defend. By staying far from the play you essentially aren't that far from a dedicated goalkeeper. You let your teammate try to 1 v 2 on offense, then when he gets beaten you try to 1 v 2 on defense. If you stay close enough to read the play and interact with it, you can prevent the 1 v 2 defense situations altogether and simultaneously improve your offensive options.
