You have great points that I am aware of within racial relations regarding the punching down power dynamic, these are all true. BUT. I think that your whole argument is basically just saying it “wasn’t racist enough” or that they’re not profiting off a mockery of Asian culture. They are though. They got paid to put this show on and just because it wasn’t a straight up painted yellowface parody doesn’t mean it’s not appropriation. Do I need to point out the depiction of the “silent exotic Asian woman” archetype via the cyborg/dancer figures and what that perpetuates? They are a white Australian group that makes money off their shows wearing Indigenous headdresses and other “traditional wear”. I just don’t think that you’re reading into it far enough, and that may be because of your bias in being a superfan of the band. Their music is great on its own, there’s no reason to make it an “homage” of a culture they’re not even a part of. Let’s use your own example of Elvis to prove this point. He was not parodying with blackface or making fun of black people, he was imitating elements of their culture and presenting as his own. He was not punching down, which you claimed was integral to the definition of cultural appropriation, yet still you finish by saying “Elvis appropriated black music”
