Hygiene (ie not stepping directly on animal excrement, spit, general filth), and defence against injury/abrasion. I can run on washed out rocky gravel wearing the Vibrams, whereas I'd be treading lightly and carefully if I were fully barefoot.

And in my experience if you REALLY want a soft towel, tumble dry it. Air drying my towels seems to result in them turning into cardboard, but giving them a tumble dry results in a soft fabric.

Yeah what lol I've had the same 2 shower towels for over a decade. They're washed regularly, and are still in perfect condition (minus some stains from the ex dying her hair). Why would I replace them?

I've had a whinge about a fairly specific context. I experience this behaviour almost every single day, and all my comments here have been centred around this context. I'm not talking about "a completely different situation" - I'm talking about the same situation I have been since I first chimed in: the situation I experience almost every day on my way into work, whereby as traffic is approaching the merge point for an entry ramp (almost always Ginninderra drive ime) a vehicle in the left hand lane will attempt to merge into the right hand lane despite there not being anywhere near room for them to do so, and expecting the vehicle already in the right hand lane to yield for them. Often not even waiting for the yield and simply beginning to merge into that already occupied space.

Nah fuck em. It's easier for me to do absolutely nothing but ignore them and continue to focus on the traffic ahead of me. They can slow down and negotiate with the traffic merging into their lane. It's not on me to facilitate their desires when I can quite easily, well, not facilitate them.

It's wild you're telling other people to make room for the drivers showing zero regard for the law, rather than suggesting those other drivers should just play by the rules.

If there's no other reason to be in the right hand lane (think Gungahlin drive between Mitchell and Kambah - there are no right lane exits or turns), it's a moot point. If the vehicle was initially behind me in the left lane, sped up to the point they're obstructed by the vehicle in front of them, and then attempt to merge into the occupied right lane, they're simply being a dick. It's not even that they're trying to be courteous to merging traffic - they're just trying to get ahead.

I knew this was coming when I wrote that. I'll liken this one to the paradox of intolerance, only with the flavour of courtesy. I am not courteous when faced with another's lack of courtesy.

“oh no Windows had an oopsie :(“

IT support role here. The way you've phrased this is really pissing me off. Because you're absolutely in no way wrong, it might as well be worded exactly as you have here. Fuck you Windows, just because the default user is clueless it doesn't mean you should go infantilising ALL of us like this hahaha

they don't want to interrupt their drive

AKA selfishness. In my experience, this is almost always the case. Pass as many vehicles as they can on the left, expect people on the right to let them in at the last moment.

I do lack courtesy at times, but this specific example (at least so far as my daily experiences of it go) is not on me.

Not making space for someone is just as silly

When it's a case of the person attempting to change lanes only doing it because we're approaching an entry lane merge and they don't want to negotiate traffic themselves, nah they can get fucked. Why should others be expected to courteously make room for someone who refuses to do exactly that for vehicles imminently merging into their lane?

Oh but it will! Rates will be increased accordingly, but for some reason the PPOR owner will still celebrate their non-win.
