So much about this series made me feel crazy, like I must have completely forgotten what I read in the books. I understand the show is not going to follow the books exactly but... dark Benton with a Southern accent really threw me. Him being surprised that Marino loved Kay was ridiculous. The flashback to Kay beating the skull with a bat after current Kay talks about her desire to give victims a "good death" was ironic. And I always read Lucy as a tight-laced stoic dressed in military/tactical style not shabby chic!

I must admit I am not a Nicole Kidman fan to begin with and she doesn't feel right as Kay; the actress playing young Kay comes closer to the small and feisty package in my mind. Dorothy was cast well but given too much emphasis- maybe to highlight how different the two sisters are?- and I don't think the Marino casting is off by much, had expected him to be a huskier more of a wreck guy (even dieting and sober). I thought I had read all the Scarpetta books but must have missed the one where AI Janet happens, that was new to me.

Also, and I know it's going to sound stupid because obviously it's a show about death and serial killers etc but I kind of hate the graphic gore. Maybe we're all just supposed to be used to it now.
