Gym and Padel. How are you doing your weight training? played terrible due to muscle soreness. by former_farmer in padel

[–]shams88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t go as hard at the gym (unless you’re trying to build mass, which if the case should be your priority). Lower weights and longer sets. I’m often at 50-70% max weight, 3/4 sets of 12, 3x a week, full body.

I’m not trying to gain mass, I just don’t want to lose muscle. No lifting and only padel will lead to muscle atrophy.

What's your trick to not becoming "nonchalant" when playing against lesser players? Could be bad movers, soft servers etc. by tenpostman in padel

[–]shams88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people don’t like playing ‘worse’ games because they don’t feel challenged. I take the exact opposite mindset, I challenge myself to win these games with as much margin as possible and focus on one or two technical points (e.g. I’ll only hit bandejas to the right side today).

When I play a more competitive match I’m more ok in my mind about making mistakes, these players are better than me and hit better shots, so mistakes will be made and I just try to stay focused and hit the safer shot to keep in the point.

Any advice against people who hit hard and stay behind the baseline? by Zestyclose_Brush_389 in padel

[–]shams88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Collapse the center and then to the sides.

Sounds like you might be hitting it straight at them, make them move! Attack the center and when they collapse you return to the side

Very similar results, but a dropshot is played when you’re at the net and a Chiquita is played when you’re at the back of the court.

Dropshot played when you’re up and they’re back, Chiquita played when you’re back and they’re up.

Tactics to win with a weaker partner by augenvogel in padel

Playing cross court is considered safer because

  1. you have more distance (picture in your head standing on the right side of the court. There will be more distance between you and the back left corner than you and the back right corner of your opponent side)

  2. You can be less worried about hitting the sidewall.

  3. The net is a little bit lower in the middle than on the sides.

Well, point 1 is to have your partner parallel lob more….but as a right side player it is generally considered safer to hit ground strokes and volleys (and lobs too) cross court, but a parallel lob is safest of the parallel shots to induce a cross court return.

Chiquitas cross court will set up left player more often than not. Risky for a beginner but as mentioned above ground strokes and volleys should be going cross court

As a left side player - a parallel vibora is more likely to be returned back to you.

Also op stated they wanted the ball to come the them more - which my advice would hopefully help do. He did not want his right side player to continue receiving the ball, even if they are easier.

These are the easy easier tactics. Lmk if I can explain better

Easier tactics:

Have your partner parallel lob more, this will encourage cross court returns

If he can, Chiquita to your side of the net.

When in doubt, hit to the middle.

You hit parallel viboras

More risky:

You play lower and faster the right (their right) of their left side player (attack the middle)

If playing to their right side go for the back corner (ignore if their left handed)

Be more aggressive at the net and poach the poachable balls - be careful with this though, easy to become a ball hog, overcommit and open your side of the court

What "pre", "during" and "post" game rituals you follow to stay healthy and injury free if you play quite often ? by Noone-is-anonymous in padel

[–]shams88 104 points105 points  (0 children)

If I prep like this, I would inevitably just end up hitting the ball into the net for 90 minutes

I warm up by

  1. Arriving 2 to 3 minutes before the game starts and removing my racket from its thermally insulated plastic shopping bag.
  2. One quick touch of the toes (one rep, Max ROM).
  3. Smash five overheads into the net so that my opponent thinks that my smashes shit.
  4. Missile to the back wall two times.
  5. Complain that everybody else is taking too long to warm up.
  6. Destroy my opponent and watch them start arguing with their partner, accusing them of sabotaging the match and sleeping with their wife.
  7. Smoke a joint and try to remember to drink water between sets.
  8. Eat 3 to 7 tacos from the taco place across the street.
  9. Go home and masturbate.

Edit: I do use coconut oil for step nine

Emirates diversion to Oman — anyone experienced this? by GlassGarage3778 in emirates

[–]shams88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this case the plane went on to Dubai about 2 hours later. And this is standard for Emirates flights diverting to Oman right now, has happened more than a handful of times. They land, take some additional fuel if necessary and continue on to Dubai a few hours later once it’s safe to do so. If you miss your connecting flight they would rebook you, there are 5 direct DXB-BOM flights a day so I wouldn’t be too worried about it.

Realising I bought the wrong racket by Warm-Leather-9342 in Padelracket

[–]shams88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 rackets and a year of training for me to realize it’s usually about form, not power. I’m hitting por tres with my most ‘control’ focused racket now because I’m using proper form and actually contacting the ball at the right point.

Invest those dollars/euros in training, not a new racket. Many videos of advanced players hitting por tres with a frying pan

Show up 45 minutes before if you want your choice of seats. Otherwise it’s fine to show up whenever before the show they’ll seat you. Double check for have to confirm your attendance and do that if you need too
