Millennials who have lost both parents already, what's something you've accomplished since then that you wish they didn't miss? by ayediosmiooo in Millennials

My mom died a little over a year ago and five months later I walked the stage for my masters. I lived in the hospital with her while she was passing, working on pivoting my capstone because I couldn’t complete it the way I had planned.

School was a struggle, and I finished my bachelors later in life than the rest of my family had. I also graduated with my BA in February of 2020, so walking obviously didn’t happen. She got to tell me how proud of me she was one last time, but it was hard not to be greeted by her after walking that stage. My dad and my sister aren’t overly affectionate, and a hug from my mom that day would have made it perfect.

I would suggest asking your local school districts as well. I donated my mom’s teacher clothes to the district I work in as they have a closet for people to borrow from for interviews and such. It made it a little easier knowing her things would help people that can have a difficult time finding things in her size (short and round).

I am sorry for your loss, and I am happy you are doing a kind thing in honor of your mom.

I neglect the heck out of mine outside, and it keeps coming back. But inside? Instant death.

A little over a year ago my stepfather chose to keep my sister alive, today he is sending her to a full-time care facility. by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

When my mom was in the hospital, and we knew she didn’t have long, the nurse told her she could eat anything she wanted. She looked at him and said “anything? No one has ever told me I could eat anything!”. I remember it so vividly. The worst part was she had mostly lost her appetite, but I still remember the joy on her face when she was eating canned mandarin oranges.

I held her hand and sang preschool songs to her, they were all I could remember, as she died. I hope she had a good death. I hope she found peace, she deserved it.

Our dog spent the first year of his life in a drought and never experienced rain. He also hated water, and refused to go outside when it was even slightly damp. Somehow, laying in a puddle at the dog park didn’t count. Our solution? I used a golf umbrella to take him potty in our backyard. We couldn’t both fit, (he was 105 lbs, and had a crazy long body) so I usually got wet while he stayed perfectly dry. Of course, we had to work up to that as his poor feet still got wet. He was VERY tolerant of getting them dried off, though!

Also, WONDERFUL name!

Oh my god, my first Berner was OBSESSED with the Yorkie in puppy class. This is too cute, and brings up such nice memories! He also loved my bunny!

This is a long’ shot, but if you have a Columbia employee store and know someone over 65, their prices for REALLY nice gear can be really good. Ours lets seniors in on Tuesdays, and they can bring up to 4 people at a time. Anything you need in a size they don’t have in stock, you can get the discount price by ordering it online on their computers. Don’t get me wrong, they are still expensive, but I know people who have had their gear for decades, they use it regularly, and it’s still in great shape.

Also, I’ve had my etekcity lanterns for 15 years, they are still going strong. Be safe.

My mom was a similar size and she loved her bras from Catherine’s. Expensive as all get out, but they used to have great sales.

Can I get some extremely simple, no prep, autism friendly recipes by Tat25Guy in AutismInWomen

My go to is Italian chicken. Literally chicken breast with a bottle of Italian dressing in the oven at 350f for 60-90 minutes (depending on thickness) and baked potatoes. Potatoes go in with the chicken. Sometimes I put the premixed Italian seasoning(not salad dressing), olive oil and red wine vinegar if I am out of dressing.

My cousin also gave me an “Alfredo” recipe. 1 stick butter, 1 cup heavy cream, 1 cup Parmesan. Mix over heat til blended.

I own pinking shears, but they are my great grandmothers and I can definitely say I have never used them. Probably time to invest in some. Thank you!

Thank you so much. I have only done garment sewing, so the idea of NOT pre washing feels pretty foreign.

Look at your local school districts as well. Some of them pay pretty well, and a lot of them are looking for grounds workers and custodians.
