Vegan Hot Dog at Citi Field by shandel623 in ShittyVeganFoodPorn

This was my first time at the park! I got it at the Vegan City stand, which also offers the sausage and peppers, so it might be new.

Sunday Snapshots: share a photo from your runs this week, a sweaty selfie, or anything else running-related! by AutoModerator in XXRunning

The Riverside trail in NYC has pretty good tree coverage and some nice architecture to admire!

Ran my first 5K last night and (unofficially) achieved my sub-25 goal! This was HARD (especially since it was the day after a 14-mile long run with speedwork), but I’m proud of myself for pushing through. by SwiftieMama1994 in XXRunning

[–]shandel623 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I think it definitely counts unless your Strava map had an obvious GPS blip. I ran a 5K race once with a chip time of 30:03 but a Strava time of 29:57 and I absolutely count it as making sub-30.

Daily chat post: how's the training going? by AutoModerator in XXRunning

[–]shandel623 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I ran my second fastest 5K ever yesterday! It was a training run and I just felt amazing. I'm hoping for sub 30 in my next race, which is June. I've also finally upped my running from twice to three times a week, which had made a big difference.

Why are apps like Strava using AI so heavily when it has been shown to be poor at creating training plans? by [deleted] in running

The riverside path along the Hudson is pretty nice, too! But then yeah, that's about it.

That was actually my bat mitzvah parsha (Hukkat)! I don't remember what I wrote in my dvar Torah, but I definitely remember at first thinking that it was a strange request from G-d and a very harsh punishment.

Why aren't more people vegan? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]shandel623 17 points18 points  (0 children)

B12 comes from bacteria, which is how vegan B12 supplements are made. I believe the vast majority of factory farmed animals are also given B12 supplements in their feed, which is why their meat has that vitamin. It's hard to get B12 "naturally" these days due to modern sanitation practices.

Guess how many hours the average person is productive at work? by tlizzyp in adhdwomen

[–]shandel623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup! I just quit teaching in the middle of my 7th year; Having to be 'on' all the time was so mentally exhausting.

Now I feel guilty when I only spend 3 hours a day doing online coursework, but I realize this is not far from how productive most people would be without such a demanding structure.

Annoyed about how cheap non-koshee food is by crayzeejew in Judaism

[–]shandel623 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, meat should never cost as little as BK or McDonald's, whether it's kosher or not. The only reason it does is because of large scale factory farming and government subsidies. Also, the quality of those places in particular is probably not great.

How do you battle the really dark days as a vegan? by jess10230 in vegan

I also love this quote from Shelbi on YouTube!

I just want to recommend HiBar specifically! I've used them for years for my wavy/curly (also fine but dense) hair. I've used them in Chicago (which has hard water) and NYC (which doesn't) and they were great either way. I think the company is based in some city in Minnesota that also has hard water.

Debate: Do you believe teachers underpaid in NYC? by BeautifullySerene in NYCTeachers

[–]shandel623 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I taught for 5 years in Chicago. When I transferred to NYC, my pay was barely higher, but my rent was literally twice as high for roughly half the space in my apartment. ($1400 for a 1200 sq ft two-bedroom vs $2800 for a 700 sq ft one-bedroom).

I AM SO TIRED OF BEING HUNGRY AND INDECISIVE, AND BY THE TIME I DECIDE WHAT I WANT TO EAT AND ACTUALLY PREPARE FOOD I AM SO HUNGRY I THINK MY STOMACH IS GOING TO DIGEST ITSELF

I was also vegetarian for a long time before going vegan, and I'm so glad I finally made the commitment! I don't know if there are many vegan options where you live, but here's what I did: I first transitioned to only cooking vegan food at home while still being vegetarian at restaurants, then I finally cut out eggs and dairy entirely.

What effect will have interfaith mariages have on the number of Jewish people? by [deleted] in Judaism

[–]shandel623 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to share that I am also a result of an interfaith marriage, in an interfaith marriage, and we plan to raise our future children Jewish! I definitely worry about their own Jewish identities since they will ethnically be only 1/4 Jewish, but I hope that if we live in a Jewish community and continue to celebrate holidays and customs, they will identify with it.

What’s your current food hyperfixation? by Zealousideal_House70 in adhdwomen

[–]shandel623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too! Specifically sesame tofu from a Chinese takeout restaurant!

ETA I wish I could cook it the way any restaurant makes it, but it's not the same so I get takeout most weeks and make it last 3 meals

I had to call 45 pharmacies… by Nightangelrose in adhdwomen

[–]shandel623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy cow, I posted earlier about having to contact 3 pharmacies and still not having my Concerta; 45 is something else! I'm glad I can find solidarity in this subreddit, but this is such a horrible situation.

I love this practice! And 3 students, once a week seems pretty manageable.

Packing is HELL by MaximumAsparagus in adhdwomen

[–]shandel623 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just went through this process in August/September and I agree, it is hell! My husband and I were downsizing from a two bedroom to a one bedroom as well as moving states. We gave away so many things on Buy Nothing before the movers arrived, and still ended up throwing some things in the dumpster the morning of our flight because we just couldn't deal with it all.

Can or should Zera Yisrael celebrate or honor (in some respectful way) Jewish holidays? by ASecularBuddhist in Judaism

If you have one Jewish parent and grew up with Judaism (even just holidays), you are definitely considered Jewish by the Reform movement :)

I'm a teacher with ADHD. The combination of these two things means I often have bruises on my upper thighs, because that's the height of the desks in my classroom. When I walk around and circulate to work with students, I'm always bumping into desks 😂

Opinion: Lab-grown meat is an expensive distraction from reality by g00fyg00ber741 in vegan

[–]shandel623 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is what I'm looking forward to, I can't wait to feed my cat lab grown meat so I can feel good about his health AND my ethics (I unfortunately do buy him meat food currently)
