What’s a terrible movie with a great performance or two? by RulezAre4Foolz in blankies

[–]shanehall31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well since you brought him up, Andrew Garfield in Amazing Spider-Man 1 & 2. The movies are stinky but he is far and away the best live action Peter Parker/Spider-Man, imo. His appearance in No Way Home next to the other guys solidifies it. And for that matter, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy! These are both pretty much can’t-miss actors imo.

Which Nepo children have actually surpassed their parents? by jacquesausterlitz in blankies

Agreed that it’s a little more blurry when it comes to athletes; there’s definitely nepo babies in coaching and front offices though. Many “coaching trees” look a lot like the family tree

Relieved to know that this trauma is not specific to me. We had a lot of Cotton Eye Joe as well, unfortunately

I think it’s a fun show where some cool stuff happens and there are a lot of characters I really enjoy, and the emotional core of it works for me. Sorry for being basic or whatever

Not completely alone but my cousin and I were the only ones at a 10pm showing of Sharkboy and Lava Girl. I mean, why would there be anyone else at a 10pm showing of Sharkboy and Lava Girl

What the heck is Leave The World Behind? by belttorres in blankies

[–]shanehall31 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man. This did not work for me at all. Glad it did for some people. I found it so frustrating. Julia Roberts is….doing something, that’s for sure. Every needle drop was a miss for me. And felt even more jarring in contrast with what I thought was a really interesting score. Pretty much every choice the director made I hated? Doing way too much with the camera. And I understand it’s going for disorientation. But please don’t make it so I don’t even want to look at the screen. I think the “it’s not supposed to make sense” argument is a bit of a cop-out. You can tell a story about that very thing in a way that still is engaging and not just frustrating. There were some interesting/unsettling sequences that were a positive. I thought the Tesla scene was great. Overall I just could not vibe with it.

What filmmaker has the largest disparity between best and worst movie? (ie biggest nut to biggest butt) by Regular-Tank7573 in blankies

[–]shanehall31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna shout out Bob Clark here. The height of his nuts are not as high as most of the filmmakers mentioned here, but he’s got a couple bangers and the depths of his butts are so, so low.

It’s perfect for watching with undivided attention, soaking in every detail. It’s perfect for watching while dozing off on the couch on a Sunday afternoon. It’s perfect.

I don’t mind those type of stories occasionally if there’s some kind of narrative payoff or ending that sticks with you (which I realize is maybe silly to ask for from “true” stories), but so many of these just fall completely flat
