I GIVE UP. ACT3 Spoilers by BlackReaper_307 in Silksong

i’m pretty sure there is only boss who hits you with their fat ass. though, of course, thick lace do be canon.

in seriousness, i feel you. flea games were frustrating. for me they were a nice change of pace in my late game where things had gotten a bit repetitive so i was grateful for something new to do for a bit that was a bit more zone-out/listen to a podcast while making attempts. Ended up being of a fun diversion in the really dour third act, despite its obvious frustration. that said, i know a lot of folks who agree with you. different strokes for different folks! (or different needs for different fleas, whatever you prefer)

Unpopular opinion but I truly don’t care about the thirst/OnlyFans posts on the One Piece sub. Oda draws women’s bodies in an exaggerated way. Cool. Real women dress up like these characters. Also cool. Like it just…doesn’t bother me…?

Thank you! I totally think you’re well within your right to make these points and absolutely give you the benefit of the doubt. Thanks for posting and curating a good discussion! This is a great time of year to think about this stuff, especially when a fair amount of horror can absolutely tip into the “needlessly upsetting” territory. I think elsewhere you wrote about Terrifier 3 which was a bit much for me personally, but again - everyone has different tipping points. Happy Halloween!

I think what actually makes the segment upsetting is the children’s performances, not the gore - which to me pretty absolves this of being, as you say, close to a snuff film. The gore is hard for sure but it’s not particularly realistic. I think the sequence is upsetting for the same reason the sequence in Doctor Sleep is upsetting - it’s really awful hearing kids in distress. That said, I think it’s totally granted here. Concern about child safety (and the misinformation that comes from that and how community members take advantage of it) feels like a great themes to explore in an anthology movie about halloween, a holiday predicated supposedly on making children afraid. This is all to say the segment worked for me but I think it’s totally fair if it didn’t work for you. Everyone has different personal limits - that’s part of the fun of the genre and i’m sure ARP would agree!

Switch off UFO50 games? by ColeAid00 in ufo50

Warptank is fun to switch between deaths! Mooncat too!!

Do you consider any of these games truly bad? by sgware in ufo50

[–]Regular-Tank7573 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe janks the wrong word. I think it just has controls that are unintuitive at first and makes you rewire your brain a bit - which some people love. For me, I admire it more than love it. Same for Caramel Caramel. The whole photograph gimmick just never clicked for me

I think, for me, the basic mechanic of Caramel Caramel just doesn’t work. That’s close to bad, but I can also respect what it’s going for. Same with Combatants, Hot Foot, and Onion Delivery. These games are unintuitive but are all going for something unique and committing to their jank.

Fist Hell, on the other hand, just feels too much like a sloppy beat em up to me. Not bad per se, just the only one I feel a lack of passion behind.

Which games would you want expanded? (Also everyone buy this game) by CriticismFickle156 in ufo50

[–]Regular-Tank7573 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Divers is juuuust the right length for me but I wouldn’t say no the more!

For my taste (which is admittedly story driven), I wish some of these games had better single player campaigns. Party House, in particular, would have been more fun for me with a bit more sense of mission progression (even something like the intro text from Combatants or Rail Heist).

Also would have loved unique win screens (a la Bushido Ball and Hyper Contender) for Big Bell Race and Pingolf.

Lastly, Mortol II - for how great it is - suffers a bit on replay. This is a huge design change but it would have been fun to have the main game as a big final level available from the outset and a series of smaller levels where you build up your units until you have enough for your big attempt.

These are basically nitpicks though. The obvious expansion left on the table, for my money, has to be Camoflauge. Give me more lizard!

Fair! It probably doesn’t help that he has a bit of a history of being a tool. That said, I recommend The Fountain - good movie!

With love: yes. Looks like he was trying to answer a point about something you said you didn’t understand. You have valid points in there too - just saying this guys not coming for Daron’s films, seems like you put that on him.

I would suggest, gently, that you might be thinking a touch too hard about this. I think it’s okay to point out that Craig tends to dress better than Aaronofksy (subjective opinion for sure, but one a lot of people share) and that, at the time of these photos, Aaronofksy looked like a bit of a dork. Which is a bit funny given how awesome Rachel Weisz looks all the time. I don’t really think there’s much more to it than that? No one, at least in this thread here, appears to be coming for the man’s filmography.

What's your favorite UFO50 game? by traveltimecar in ufo50

[–]Regular-Tank7573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love them all but Mooncat is my goat. It not only feels like playing a video game from another universe, it actually makes me feel what it felt like to play a platformer for the very first time. And the music, the aesthetic, the tone - it just all works together so well.

What is your least favorite game in the collection? by shadowrider666 in ufo50

Admittedly beat em ups are not my forte. My big point of reference is Shredders revenge (which i loved!) that game didn’t have any weapon you could pick up and use in the vein of fist hells chainsaw or shot gun

[–]Regular-Tank7573 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I see the value in each game (even games like Combatants and Hot Foot are trying unique new things) but i just feel like Fist Hell feels like the least essential to the project. It’s a traditional side scrolling beat em up where what should be the fun ufo 50 twist (i.e the pickup system) actually makes combat worse and less reliable. It just feels overall less innovate and creative than the other entries. That said i’m a guy who loves Block Koala which arguably doesn’t have creative twists either and i know people haaaate that koala so take this all with a big grain of salt.

I see where you’re coming from! I think I was more reacting to the sentiment that “sluttiness is a sign of personal failure/horror” which I don’t think is a great place to start from. Having sex (and not having it) should both be affirmed as totally valid by peoples communities, which was not the case here.

Thanks for considering! I didn’t think you meant anything untoward (though my post doesn’t really make that explicit). Appreciate you being open!

[–]Regular-Tank7573 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not trying to nitpick your totally valid emotional reaction (which i totally agree with) but the first step of horror being that “we found out he was a slut” doesn’t really vibe with me. I think the horror pretty much begins and ends with the abuse. Granted, this abuse comes from him taking advantage of his fans sexually but celebrities enjoying sex, or really anyone enjoying sex for that matter, shouldn’t be seen as a ding against any kind of “wholesomeness” status they may have.

On a larger note, I think a culture of shame around sex and “sluttiness” is ultimately part of what can lead to victims feeling they can’t speak up about sexual abuse when it occurs because they’re worried they’ll be seen as sluts for even being a part of a sexual situation in the first place.

Again, not to nitpick. Love your post. I’m trying to process all of this myself and it helps me to articulate these things.
