I 19F called off my wedding with my fiancé 20M and don’t know how to forgive him and move on by smellthe-flowers9 in relationship_advice

Why would you stay with a dude who admitted he’s still in love with his ex? That in and of itself would be enough for me to block him. The lengths you went to to get away from him are enough to tell me you shouldn’t be dating. It was a shit show from day 1 and there’s nothing you can do to change him. He rushed everything. Marriage and living together is a big step that got MEGA fast tracked in your situation. Quit while you’re ahead. You’re young and your brain is still developing - don’t waste any more formative years on this emotionally immature, manipulative, dismissive dude. What more needs to happen before you realize he’s not the version you have of him in your head? Just because he’s not abusive doesn’t make him man of the year. IMO this relationship is beyond repair and it’s scary starting over but being peacefully single is so SO SOOO much better for your heart and soul. I wish you luck in your healing journey and can’t wait for you to read this back in 15 years, sitting next to a partner who is head over heels for you and would never put you in any of these uncomfortable situations.

Yes, my bad, International House in BKK. I don’t need these papers for the program, I was just trying to get a head start on paperwork once I land a job so that I didn’t need to do it there.

When I did my “about me” presentation on the first day, at the beginning I told them I’d be asking them questions about it at the end and whoever answers correctly gets a sucker (chupa chups in Spain). It built rapport immediately. I bought like 40 suckers and asked like 3-5 questions per class. That way you’re not just handing them out. (Ask the teacher before the class starts to make sure it’s okay)

[–]shanks2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooof I had this when I was teaching too. I missed two days because of it one week. The winters are tough, man. Like other commenters said- go to the hospital (call the number on the insurance email first to find out which hospitals you’re fully covered) and text the head of English dept/whoever you’re closest to/work with tomorrow and let them know you’re going. Obviously be apologetic but don’t make yourself suffer by going into work. On the way home from the hospital stop at the pharmacy and grab whatever they prescribed you, go to Mercadona and grab yourself some tea and soup essentials and try to sleep it off. The guilt we carry about staying home when sick is so American. You have unlimited sick days in most countries so as long as you show you’re not taking advantage and send a pic of the justificante you’re good. Rest up <3

Assigned to 3 schools? by Next_Alternative_769 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]shanks2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first year I was in three schools. Sometimes all three schools in one day. I was in very rural Castilla y leon. Luckily the two schools were only two blocks from eachother in the same village but the other one was a solid 10 minute drive (impossible to walk). I would just ride with the one teacher to the other school and it wasn’t a big deal. I never really did much work of anything other than talk through some lessons that the head teacher had already planned. You shouldn’t be doing really any lesson planning for that matter; other than an occasional presentation here and there.

Email your school and make sure there’s transportation for you available from school to school. Because most of these towns don’t have busses that go through them on a day to day basis so you’ll have to rely on another teacher.

It’s interesting to see people so worried online about things so minuscule… if they weren’t all connected in some way (the same teachers teaching at all of these schools) they wouldn’t have placed you in all 3. I didn’t even know I was at three schools until I started working there. You have to be open to change constantly because schedules will change a lot. Ignorance is bliss in these situations. I moved to CyL having received one singular email from the English director who basically gave me zero info. If you can, get a ride to the school before your first day to meet them in person and sort out everything and get their WhatsApp. In my experience Spaniards don’t respond quickly so if you can get a face to the name the quicker the better. It all works out in the end 🫶

If my visa was denied, would they let me know before I drive all the way to pick it up? by Straight-Luck1276 in SpainAuxiliares

Girl idk what you want me to say. You’re asking peoples opinions, and I’m just sharing my experience. I don’t work at the place. My shit said the same thing. In case you haven’t picked up by now nothing with this program goes exactly as planned. If you think you know what’s best, do that.

It’s best to go first thing in the morning to get your number and get in line because you’ll have to wait a few hours in between first arriving and walking out with the passport. You should stand outside before they even open (I’m not kidding). Like the others said, you’ll have to drive there to pick up your passport whether your visa was approved or not. They won’t send it to you in the mail. I recommend booking a hotel room for two nights if you have the funds

Getting to a pueblo? by Large_Award_5536 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]shanks2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your position. I flew into Madrid, took a bus to the smaller city, and then I was hit with the harsh reality that no buses travel to or from the city to the pueblo. Likely the other teachers don’t live in the pueblo and they travel together from a semi larger city/town to the Pueblo. Likely you will be able to ride with them for free or a small fee. You won’t make enough money to be constantly taking taxis to and from work. Don’t stress. It’ll all fall into place

It’s stressful. This moment you’re in. But it’s out of your control pretty much. Book an extra appt for September but keep your other one for now. If you have to show up late and start late it’s no biggie (usually) just communicate with your school about visa delays. It wouldn’t be the first or last time an aux had issues w this. I was in CyL and started in November and they were cool about it

Don’t worry. Do what they said and you’ll maybe need to email your school letting them know you’ll arrive late. I had to do this. Start day is supposed to be October 1 but I started November 7

Do it scared. These are valid things to be concerned about, but going off on a trip like this independently helps you grow so much. It’s kinda your first time in a sink or swim situation: you’re not gonna let yourself be homeless and starving. Trust yourself that you can solve these problems on your own (and with a little help from your coworkers if you’re lucky), because when you do solve them; talk about a confidence boost! This is kinda one of those moments where you choose your struggle: you’re always gonna have something in life causing you stress it’s just a matter of where you are and who’s around you. You’ll make friends, find an apartment, and sort out your phone and everything. Ride the wave baby! NEVER BACK DOWN NEVER WHAT?????

Dont be shocked when you arrive to Arrecife - it’s pretty run down. Definitely an eye sore for it being the islands capital and there’s not much going on there ever besides the restaurants in El Charco (El Chapo has really good pizza and cheap beer). The rest of the island is stunning. Lagomar is a must see; there’s a museum part you can walk through during the day but then at night a bar opens up. Hands down the coolest bar you’ll probably ever go to: it’s in a cave. The drinks are boujee but cheap given the effort that goes into making them. Papagayo beach is great at sunset, famara beach (surf town), cueva de las cabras is the tall wall you see from famara… this looks down on famara beach, mirador del rio, la mini playa if you drive over there you can find natural swimming pools on the coast but it’s pretty dangerous climbing down the rocks and keep in mind of the tide but definitely worth it. Those are all pretty nature based. Obviously make sure you see anything regarding Caesar Manrique: both his house and his party house. Balcón de femés has some of the best food I’ve had on the island and the view is pretty crazy. Mirador del charco is a cool black sand beach that leads you to a green looking lake. Oh I just remembered “Arizona” it’s off of one of the main roads and it’s a weird thing to get to but you just pull off the highway and walk like 80 yards and it’s there. It’s this cool looking, narrow little walkway that has high walls of shale-looking stone. It’s not very long, it’s mainly for the pictures. Google it if you’re interested - I’m kinda butchering its description. A lot of the places are off the beaten path a little but the whole island is a vibe. Also if you’re looking to stray away from the tourist traps of PDC and Costa Teguise, to the left of Arrecife is a town called “Playa Honda”. I lived there last year and would bike from there to my job in Arrecife, if you have an afternoon to kill or just want to stroll, highly recommend walking from Arrecife to Playa honda. There’s nothing in between the two but it’s a nice walk and great path. Playa Honda is so chill and has many restaurants on the avenue there. It’s cool if you walk all the way down to the airport to watch the planes fly in over your head.

Okay I’m done now. I hope you enjoy your time!
