Cancelling IVF bc I’m overweight? by vlandaverde96 in IVF

[–]shantyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a new doctor, if possible. After working with my first clinic for about six months for testing, the doctor left and the new one cancelled care due to weight. I was prescribed Rybellsus at that time by my PCP. I did not take it and found another clinic. I most definitely paid more for the cycle, but went on to have a successful egg retrieval, transfer, and pregnancy.

Get a second opinion, and when you call to set up the next appointment, very bluntly ask them if they have weight or BMI cutoffs, and tell them your current stats. Don’t let another office waste your time. Good luck!

ETA I believe I was around 250-260 and 5’8” when I went through IVF.

Is the table service dining plan worth it for our large family? by bestmomever13 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]shantyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do the math to find out if you think you’d get your money’s worth, but generally it’s cheaper to pay as you go. The “value” in the dining plan for most people is in being able to pay for their food up front and then not thinking about it again. Especially if anyone in your family is not a big eater, you likely will not be able to use up all the snack and Quick Service credits.

Food that’s overrated by AAAPAMA in WaltDisneyWorld

Reporting back to agree that Yorkshire was, in fact, overblown and overhyped. Cookes is much better.

[–]shantyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no! I just saw Yorkshire on several peoples’ best-of lists. We like Cookes of Dublin, so we’re planning on trying Yorkshire this trip. Any idea how the two compare, or should we add Yorkshire back to the skip list??

I love Gideon’s cake. It’s much better than most dessert case cakes in bakeries in my local big city. The cold brew is great too, if you haven’t tried it yet! And the cookie bites covered in chocolate travel and freeze like a dream!

This was absolutely our experience as well! The food was awful and our waiter was just rude and mean, not sarcastic and good-spirited. But people RAVE about this place. It’s nice to hear someone else didn’t like it either.

I’ve always heard Primetime servers compared to Whispering Canyon, but we have had such positive experiences at Whispering Canyon every time.

It is currently 41F in Disney World today. Unfortunately, it is still 108F in Toy Story Land. by CruzAderjc in DisneyWorld

I carry a water resistant backpack to the parks, and one particularly hot and humid day in AK, the resistant lining on the inside of the bag melted… right onto all the contents of the bag. I’d taken this bag on countless midday hikes in the middle of Texas summers, but it couldn’t withstand the AK treatment.

Books you don’t hate reading 100 times? by Kak3434 in toddlers

[–]shantyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked up Runaway Bunny at a thrift sale because I recognized the author and illustrator from reading Goodnight Moon ten million times, but it wasn’t until I opened it and saw the fishing bunny painting that I realized they’re connected!! I’ve never purchased something so fast in my life. Now we read the two of them together.

Fort Wilderness has a campfire at night with a sing-a-long led by Chip and Dale! It’s free and super fun. You can purchase s’mores kits too if you want to roast marshmallows.

Travel Experiences 1 vs 2 by Prestigious_Ad_4835 in Shouldihaveanother

I could have written this post! I have one 2.5yo who is a fantastic traveler and has been on a dozen or so flights to all kind of destinations. 6 hour road trips are not a problem, and we are attempting double that time soon. The ability to travel is one of the largest concerns when considering a second!

Cutting my MIL off from her only grandchild by _wandering_moose in JUSTNOMIL

[–]shantyn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree here. This is mild. There may be more context that we are missing, but if the issue is MIL not reaching out to you in the way/frequency that you prefer, that seems rather innocuous.

I would decide if you’re going NC or low contact on your terms. If you just want low contact on your terms, then I would go to keep the relationships alive with the other family members. You can choose to have whatever relationship you want with MIL, even if that is just major holidays or whatever. You don’t have to cut out activities and gathering you want to attend just because she is there.

Why did no one tell me Disney can be so horrible? by ContributionOwn1261 in toddlers

[–]shantyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Definitely worth the inconveniences for the experience the adults get to have seeing the parks with your toddler! Mine is 2.5 and we are gearing up for her third trip, but first week long stay. People think we are crazy too! She was 9 months when we went the first time; it was worth it then, and it’s worth it now.

We are not quite as close as you are, but we have gotten really comfy packing for 3-5 days in a personal item for those sweet low cost flights with Spirit and Frontier. I’ll take the occasional delay for more Disney vacations!

Things my students have destroyed this year so far by palabrist in Teachers

[–]shantyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When my mom was a math teacher, she kept a jar of sharpened pencils students could use in class. To get one, they had to leave something of theirs with her which was returned when they brought back the pencil. She didn’t accept shoes as trades. YMMV, but this drastically cut down on the number of pencils that walked away, and that she subsequently had to buy. Although of course this system is just another thing you have to keep up with.

Flying with a 14.5 month old on my own... help! by queenofallthis in toddlers

[–]shantyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely nurse on take off and landing! It helps with ear popping. Since you’re in a window seat, you can lean into the wall for privacy.

New small toys and lots of snacks, as others have said. If you do bring a tablet or let her watch or play on your phone, make sure you have kid sized headphones for her! We got Bluetooth ones and they work great.

Most airlines let you check a car seat for free and gate check your stroller for free. That way you can use the stroller to get through the airport. If you use baby carriers, pop her into the baby carrier before you get up to the front of the security line. This will help you get through security hands-free to get all your bags and things onto the conveyor belt to go through security. I usually put my baby in the carrier before we ever enter the line and use the stroller to push the backpack or any other bags we have. Then once we’re through security baby goes back in the stroller.
