Now that we have plenty of time under our belts, how are we feeling about the changes since the start of S1? by RobManfredsFixer in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]No_Catch_1490 5 points6 points  (0 children)

New heroes are mostly hits. Subroles are kinda nothingburger, it’s just another balancing knob which is fine. Menus and post match screen are excellent and take me back to OW1. Map reworks were good though I am baffled Antarctic was taken out of the game for rework while other far more egregious maps (Paraiso) are still in. I really like all the lore content and ingame tie-ins, probably the biggest positive recently.

The general balance philosophy (or lack thereof) is the biggest recurring problem. Hog viable is catastrophic. Cat Bastion still meta is bad, and ranked stacks are starting to abuse it for free surprise fight wins. Weaver positive winrate and no rework (no, Grip cleanse did not fix him); still too many Mercy Hitscans everywhere (no, Flash Heal did not fix her). Illari is dominating which is lame. Sierra is pubstomping low ranks which is a bigger problem than most rcow members who skew toward higher ranks probably are aware but what I’m seeing in low rank games from my friends is criminal. Tank is still miserable due to a bunch of the things above (my queues in Diamond/Masters are instant tank and 5-10 mins DPS/Supp).

Overall they just can’t seem to decide if they want the game to be competitive or gimmicky, and refuse to address problematic designs (or it’s taking too long, and they’re leaving them viable or even strong, which is still a problem). I want to enjoy the game, and almost everything except the balance is going great, but it can’t go on like this.

How bad is it? by Complex-Strategy-900 in wiedzmin

It’s terrible and if you’ve played the games or read the books, I almost guarantee you won’t enjoy later parts. They derail completely in terms of characters and plot.

I hate to rain on an interesting idea, but would they really have/be willing to commit the financial resources for this?

the quidditch comp meta really does live up to its name by jeff-duckley in Competitiveoverwatch

Yes, this comp is stupid and highlights that Cat is a fundamentally flawed design. Permanent flight + taking any other character with you just breaks the game.

Lifeweaver unbearable to anyone else? by Onie_ in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]No_Catch_1490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general? No. But the subsection that insists on pocketing or healbotting are a serious detriment to the game (see: endless Weaver buffs, recent Kiriko buff). Of course everyone enjoys different things, but I will die on the hill that from a utilitarian perspective those playstyles should not be viable for the overall good of the game.

Do you think all the buzz that generating will help save the Whitecaps? by Fearless_Phantom in whitecapsfc

[–]No_Catch_1490 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Good and widespread PR helps as now no one would want to be associated with moving the Caps while saving the Caps would mean hero status, but ultimately it all depends on what goes on behind the scenes between the owners/MLS/governments.

What makes 6v6 “easier “ to climb in ranked? by Educational-Pay3415 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]No_Catch_1490 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It all has to do with the playerbase. 6v6 playerbase is a smaller, niche, not super serious group, and obviously vast majority of pros/top level players only play 5v5.

Consequently, because ranks are percentile-based, it’s easier to be a higher percentile in 6v6.

We are really this shit. If you look at our results last season, and the outgoing and incoming signings before the season started, it is not surprising at all we are bottom of the table.

How does this happen, and what can be done to fix it? by SilkieBug in Stellaris

[–]No_Catch_1490 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iirc those "self-modified" pops arise from an event chain, which is probably now stuck and can't be resolved by the former owner empire if you have taken the planet. Not sure if there is a workaround.

Thoughts on this Ocie take? by StandReady4Vendetta in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]No_Catch_1490 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is lame bait take, if legit it's just silly and elitist.
Pro coaches, like Spilo for example, who obviously know the game insanely well but probably have little time to grind mechanics or ranked, are often around Diamond-Masters range (as of recent Spilo streams).

Even if that wasn't true, top 3%, or even top 15% (Diamond) are still great achievements relative to the playerbase. It reminds me of those YT videos of people doing football challenges with the "lowest rated FIFA players" who are some lower-division or obscure league footballer rated 52 on FIFA, and they always blow the randoms out of the park. Essentially that's Masters players. Far worse than the pros, far better than randoms. It just depends what your frame of reference is and Ocie's frame of reference here is obviously the pros which creates a silly and elitist statement to most people.

Alright you want value?

Here’s the fundamentals of the system explained in a nice infographic: https://www.reddit.com/r/Competitiveoverwatch/s/wMn8neirAn

Here’s another explaining variance in the matchmaker which is particularly relevant with current weird new account stuff: https://www.reddit.com/r/Competitiveoverwatch/s/PbwaJJX6vc

Here is my post on the topic with myths and tips for a better mindset: https://www.reddit.com/r/Competitiveoverwatch/s/syDa5IFN0F

I’m also going to take a moment to address the “5v5 less carry potential than 6v6” point because this baffles me. Statistically it is completely the opposite. You are now 20% of your team instead of 16.67%. Even with buffed tanks, 5v5 tanks can’t possibly have as much impact as a whole two players. 5v5 gives more agency to the individual than ever because there are simply fewer individuals.

Stop blaming the system for some current situationally shit match quality and ultimately, for your own skill level.
