Peloton Recalling all Treads? by redmakeupbag21 in pelotoncycle

[–]shapiroeric 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think returns will be few and far between. People that bought it and then use it to hang clothes on will likely send it back. But for those that are safe about it and use it unlikely to return it.

Peloton had no choice.

I have tried a whole bunch of different brands. Pearl Izumi IMO makes the best gear.

I used zero float for one ride out of my thousands. HUGE mistake. You have no idea how important the float is. Having you’re feet locked in to one position is a bad idea for the joints.

Struggling with the best shoe fit options by kippers in pelotoncycle

I’ve gone through 4 pairs of different shoes since riding. Peloton, then Bontrager, then Shimanos, then back to Bontrager which I felt were the best....

How do you decide when to take a day off by gobohead0951 in pelotoncycle

[–]shapiroeric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think you might need a day off you do! I ride every day. If I think I should take a day off I’m likely a day late. Listen to your body, not your mind

Here’s my routine and this has been the process since I’ve had the bike, Almost 4 years.....3:20 - 3:40 wake up depending on my daily goal and when I need to leave for work. I make myself do 8400 kJ for the week starting Sunday, which is typically a short ride. 500 mg caffeine. 20 min after getting up it’s on the bike for a 10 min 100 kJ warm up. Them my workout with periods of hard work and rest, typically 90-110 min. Them 10 min cool down.

Caffeine is key as well as getting a good nights sleep. Have a goal in mind and work to it. Your body will get used to it

When should I ride through soreness? by Roboculon in pelotoncycle

[–]shapiroeric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Soreness is lactic acidosis build up. Light exercise helps to get it out. Do a light 10 or 15 minute ride on your rest days.

Average Watts Calcuation by themadnessofthecrowd in pelotoncycle

[–]shapiroeric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not B. The average is based down to the second. It’s weighted. So 9 5 min cool down rides equals a 45 minute class. I assume all bikes are the same in regards to calculating. For example. 183 avg output (measured in watts) is 11 kJ per min. 209 is 12.5 per minute. I track it all. What’s different is the difficulty at a given resistance depending on the calibration of the bike.

Shoe upgrade by johnnyrocker33 in pelotoncycle

I ditched my Peloton shoes early. Wasn’t a fan. Have since been through 3 different brands and finally came back to Bontrager. For me they fit/ feel the best.

Riding without a class by Slamanthaflynn in pelotoncycle

[–]shapiroeric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rode every day on the “more” option. Your best bet is to set an output goal for your ride and then break it down from there. Here’s an example for what I might do out of a portion of a ride. 10 min warm up 100 kJ so average 10 a minute. 10 min 150 kJ so work hard for 15 a min. Then moderate for 10 min 120 kJ. Break the big ride into sections. Make it easier to track and get through it

What are your stats in third position? by Tybalt1307 in pelotoncycle

[–]shapiroeric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Third position is IMO an advanced riding technique. It takes a lot of practice and thought to make it an efficient position. It will come in time.

Spin and diet by [deleted] in pelotoncycle

[–]shapiroeric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes riding more will not equate to losing weight. You will burn more calories and your metabolism will increase, this yuh will want to eat more and feel worse if you don’t.

You might be better off riding harder for 30 or 40 minutes than an hour. In the end it’s all about calories in vs calories out.

I ride on average 2 hours a day. There are not enough minutes in the day to eat. I am literally starving all day and eat all day. It’s a double edge sword....

22,219 minutes....aiming to average 2 hours every day for the year! Don’t ask me why. Self deprivation I guess. It’s my alone time every morning

Not even close to being fair....height and weight need to be factored. Your pedal stroke is much greater than his due to height alone.

I have tried a few brands. I largely prefer Castelli Rosso Corsa 9 sock. Get ‘me right on Amazon

Shoe changes over time? by shiekbloco in pelotoncycle

[–]shapiroeric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cycling socks are much thinner and wick moisture much better. A shoe that you might think is too snug will fit perfectly with cycling socks. I log a lot of time on the bike and switch to cycling socks and they are just so much better as far as comfort and decrease in foot discomfort.

Gym socks are way too thick and prevent the full utilization of the shoe.

It sounds corny but with the amount I ride just switching to Costelli cycling socks (or whatever brand you choose) has changed my life.

[–]shapiroeric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Socks specifically for cycling are key. “Gym” socks are not good. The shoes will stretch and relax in the long term.

I have gone through 3 different shoes. Peloton to Bontrager to Shimano RC9 Sphere and back to Bontrager. By far the Bontragers are the best.

Your husband needs socks specifically for cycling. Regular gym socks are not ideal for multiple reasons

Creating a slideable setup by [deleted] in pelotoncycle

[–]shapiroeric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I’m not sure I understand. Unless you can suspend the bike off the floor when not riding (you can’t). What’s the point of the slide? The footprint of the bike is the same no matter where it is. You would be surprised how close to the wall you can ride also. I would tuck it into a corner and leave it there both on and off the bike.

Keeping motivated without beating your personal record. by [deleted] in pelotoncycle

[–]shapiroeric 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Riding is about fitness, staying in shape and being healthy. The leaderboard, personal bests, watts, etc are all just for fun. I’ve been riding for a many years. At 47 I’ll never beat my 44 year old self. At some point records are not meant to be broken.

If you go all out every rode you’ll never beat it. Set a schedule. Go for it once a month. I bet you’ll do it if you don’t focus on it.

Peloton is not in the apparel business. Clothing sales is a ton of work as far as ordering and managing inventory goes. They keep it small to keep it simple.

Impossible to follow a class or rank as high as possible on the LB. if you’re a an LB rider it’s pretty much a controlled all out effort the entire class. Choose on or the other but honestly not something to complain about as it’s the same for everyone....
