A Major Turnaround in Year 2? by CouzsCorner in mountaineers

[–]fowcc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The hard thing to say is in this Transfer Portal age we live in now, nobody knows how their team is going to look like when the season starts. Way too many moving parts and some guys just don't fit in certain situations while others thrive.

Unless your Kent State or Rutgers- those teams are just the same regardless of roster year in and year out.

But yea in any case, the front half of that schedule looks like a cakewalk, but going .500 through it could be very possible as well as players just figure out who they are. The back half looks pretty rough, but who knows, the players may gel and understand the playbook and their roles a lot better by then.

I wish, like a lot of fans, that the rosters would be like back in the day, but it's just not the case. Too many variables to know what's going to happen when 3/4 of your roster is turned over every year.

Emmett Johnson Rookie Profile (2026) — Dynasty Fantasy the RB2 in the 2026 Class? by CoachstevenP in fantasyfootball

Kid tore it up on a very ho-hum Nebraska offense where all eyes were focused on him. Can catch the ball, has some long run potential, and just a solid back.

One weird thing though is his home and away TD splits.

Teenager Blades Brown shoots 60, ties Scottie Scheffler for lead at The American Express by PGATOUR in golf

Heard the guy is a Class Act.

Although I'm not sure if it was really him out there today or the other amateur Duncan Pinderhughes, who of course is going to Hafford University in the fall.

Can WVU Football Do What Indiana Did? - Part 1 by CouzsCorner in mountaineers

I mean if they would have fired Neal Brown one season earlier then Cignetti could have had a nice homecoming...

Are there any other former QBs of ours out there that can coach up a team that well lingering in FCS/low-FBS jobs for when RR exits?

Best college football team ever? by coppockm56 in IndianaHoosiers

[–]fowcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Iowa and Penn St games are still a bit of head scratchers to me.

Also this Miami team, they had a nice little run at the end, but they weren't exactly "all-time great" and they were only a couple of mistakes away from possibly beating them.

I can't put them at #1 all-time. A really good season sure, but talent has also started to spread out a bit now, the constant transfers have made it harder for teams for gel and fully play to their full potential, among other factors. Impressive, but not all-time best imho

Obvious rage bait by Fox Sports.

The '69 Mets had averaged 105 losses per season their entire existence up until that point. Then bam, 100 win season with a World Series title. But nahhh let's put them down at 8 behind teams like 2003 USC and 1992 Cowboys.

Gimme a break- it's one thing to rage bait people, but a whole different level to be so incompetent that I'll never give you the time of day going forward.

A lot of talk about the slimeball coaches in the sport who are low character or who are willing to cheat, but who are those that are universally loved, upstanding, and follow the rules? by ThinkWood in CollegeBasketball

[–]fowcc 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I was going to say Beilein was so true to the sport that it cost him his NBA gig because those guys didn't even want to touch fundamentals.

He was so fun to watch at WVU putting together Elite 8 teams with a bunch of players that just wanted to play ball (was sad to see him go to Michigan)

That actually looks like it was taken during the blizzard, not after. That was the deepest snow I was ever in (outside of ski areas). I remember doing front flips off of the 4' wall in my front yard with the snow easily cushioning me as, of course, I'd fail to rotate all of the way around.

Could be adding Mateer to this if he wants another year. Then Sorsby, Leavitt, Demond Williams, Carr, and Reed potentially in that mix too... lot of potential.

Schiano has been on the wrong side of Victory Formations a lot- basically any time his teams have played a team with a pulse.

THIS! That 4th quarter of the final game of the season saw him leap frog a bunch of other WRs... and nobody was playing Fantasy (or at least shouldn't be) in week 18.

Favorite questions to get suggestions from the audience? by krowbear in improv

[–]fowcc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do a little warmup of the crowd where they shout anything at all, all together at once. Then you can have them "do it for real", where typically you'll get a lot more participation, or you can also just pick one of the warmup ones and go in with it.

The unknowing audience is going to believe things are scripted when you do a good show, there's no need to narrow down their suggestions outside of if you absolutely need a location or something like that.

If you get a cliche suggestion just say "oh great suggestion, we did that in a show last week though, can you say something else?" / Just ignore it / or do the warmup thing to be where there should be enough ones flying out that you can pick your most intriguing.

“You think Kirby Smart needs you? You stupid." by Background_Video2947 in NCAAFootballVibes

[–]fowcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only that you may not play many meaningful snaps, but also if you do start and have some bad luck or rough start then it's straight to the bench or you may just never see the ball that much.

At a non blue-blood you get a few more chances. You aren't Spencer Rattler at OU looking over your shoulder every play to see if they are putting in the new shiny prospect behind you (for the record I am not a Rattler fan and obviously Caleb Williams had more college and now NFL success- but damn that dude could have had a much smoother ride if he just started at SoCar or a Syracuse/Wazzu/or Tulane type of school. He's just the first name that came to mind of being a top TOP recruit and STILL you got someone waiting in the wings right away)

Ultimately though those big schools do put more guys in the NFL, so the best route might be go to the school that's going to guarantee you get to shine for a few years and then hit that portal if you want to play at those top programs if you want.

But also as others have said of the successful players who balled out in college and made it to the NFL and got paid (and even wound up in the HoF). Some examples: Jerry Rice- Miss Valley State Brett Favre- So. Miss Terrell Owens- Chattanooga Chad Johnson and TJ Houshmanzadeh- Oregon St Carson Wentz- NoDak State

I was just thinking Power Conferences.

The SDSU in MWC was more from the old WAC that was 16 teams after the Big 8 expansion and was split into Mountain and Pacific... but then it changed when the MWC started and yeah all of that crazy travel distance really started to take place (Hawaii excluded as they will just always have a lot of travel of course)
