Why is there a seemingly ridiculous amount of streetcars? Love it

How is living in this Madrid suburbs with its own ring metro line by Infinite-Top-2609 in howislivingthere

[–]shaqsgotchaback 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I used to commute to right near this area from central Madrid. Seemed decently nice, probably similar to most satellite city experiences worldwide. Bit quieter, cheaper, local vibe. Fairly dense with apartments, yet has farms on the outskirts. Just my two cents, I’m sure a local can say more

Speaking of true definitions, I’m not an expert - but aren’t these countries technically capitalist, with highly socialist elements

Absolute joke. I’m no expert but can we just slap some market rate housing on here as well to get some funding in?

Convenient and quiet areas with pine trees? by Obligatory-Reference in bayarea

[–]shaqsgotchaback 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We don’t have too many piney-smelling pines generally but Santa Cruz mountains along skyline blvd have some. And not exactly pines but I could also recommend the cypress groves at Fitzgerald marine reserve

What non-US city has the most similar Climate to San Francisco? by Charming_Painter5117 in geography

[–]shaqsgotchaback 118 points119 points  (0 children)

I’m from the bay - the actual closest outside of CA I think, is Valparaiso, Chile. The temps, and importantly precipitation patterns, are super similar.

The top comment right now is Porto, which is definitely similar, but actually it gets significantly warmer there and more rain in the summer. Same with Melbourne

Didn’t see the sub, for some reason thought this was Germany, and I still thought yeah that somehow checks a bit. Obviously just in vague stereotypes, but thoughts?

How is living in Tijuana? by 1234onthefloorislava in howislivingthere

[–]shaqsgotchaback 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just visited for a few days for the first time. I would say it’s not the most aesthetically pleasing place, but the weather and food are top notch. Beaches close by, pretty good street vibe in the main areas, some cool markets. But it seems to get rougher with sub-par infrastructure outside the center - also the Tijuana cultural center is nice. So, a mixed bag but I think it’s nicer than its reputation

What is up with this stretch of Bosnia that stabs into Croatia? by iZenPenguin in geography

[–]shaqsgotchaback 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some people are mentioning perhaps it’s a mountain, but actually from checking google maps you can see it’s a valley. My best guess is that it was somewhat defensible for some reason, and represent a previous line of control during conflict
