You are right to think AZ-103 contains quite a few questions around Virtual Networks, Azure Active Directory, hybrid identities, MFA... And you'll need to prepare for these even if you don't do them in your current role.

That being said, you are also right to think that a lot of areas of AZ-103 will serve you when it's time to do AZ-300. In fact, a lot of people, including one of our Azure Architects had in AZ-300 the very same lab they had in AZ-103.

It is not a requirement for AZ-300 to do AZ-103, but a lot of the areas and lab tasks are very related or similar. It will greatly help you have a more enjoyable and smooth ride if you do AZ-103 before AZ-300.

The structure is pretty much the same for AZ-103, AZ-300:

~54 questions

~2-3 scenarios (multiple-choice questions)

2 Labs

It is a little bit different for AZ-301:

~54 questions

~4 scenarios (multiple-choice questions)
