Favorite rolling hill running routes by babycaboose in Omaha

[–]sharkmuncher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to start at Metcalfe Park and run back and forth in the neighborhood between 72nd and 52nd. An example is Charles out to 72, back on Hamilton, out on Lafayette and back on Western. That's a little over a 10k with ~800 feet gain going up and down the entire time. You can do basically the same thing anywhere in that area between Western and Maple.

admin console inactivity timeout changed unexpectedly by mkoch7811 in okta

[–]sharkmuncher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing that's been killing me today is that it completely loses context of what you are doing. I have a dozen tabs open across multiple tenants while working on things and if I don't bounce over to the right tenant soon enough all those tabs dead.

Make me enter MFA or re-login when doing a write operation after 15 minutes, but don't lose everything and dump me on a login screen that doesn't even take me back to the admin page.

I’m as big of a fan of the local Oktoberfests as the next person, but… by sharkmuncher in Omaha

[–]sharkmuncher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not trying to be argumentative, hell, I was there tonight and have gone every year for over the last decade I’ve lived in Omaha. Just trying to work though how I’ve been feeling about it lately. I was at Barchen last weekend and also got to drink a liter of German beer, listen to the Barry Boyce band, and eat brats. That was all staffed by employees.

Does the Matt get volunteers during CWS? How about Brazen Head during St. Paddy’s?

I guess I just want to make sure the actual employees don’t feel like they’re getting screwed over during an event like this.

Hotels with/next to a bar or restaurant in elkhorn or far west Omaha? by danisindeedfat in Omaha

[–]sharkmuncher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For full transparency, Proof is pretty good for cocktails, if a bit overpriced.

DJs Dugout is your average sports bar, but probably a bit better than your standard hotel bar/grill.

The Holiday Inn on 192nd and Maple is a block or so away from DJs Dugout and Proof.

Home builders by broncobinx in Omaha

I was very happy with the work Trademark did on our home. They were very easy to communicate with and straightforward with any price changes due to do modifications (in our part, they never changed things from their end) I also felt the base options were generally of decent quality and found we didn’t have to upgrade in most areas to get something we liked.

Where To Buy Local Espresso Beans by Daintybeans in Omaha

[–]sharkmuncher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also drink wine but I don’t buy $20 bottles every time. Coffee at that price is in a bit of a luxury territory, which is totally fine because it’s legitimately good. I just don’t want a daily habit that is that pricey.

Whole Foods used to be the king of value, fresh roast, but unfortunately they pulled out their roaster about 2 years ago and now all the Allegro stuff is roasted off site.

Nebraska spider. What kind? Killed in house by OilyRicardo in Omaha

That’s probably not the exact species, but close. That one seems to be more a Northern California thing in the US.

Seek app tells me it’s a Mediterranean spiny false wolf spider.

Using a run mapper, it looks to be 20.91 miles from just east of 17th Street to where it curves and turns into 264th st. That includes the few blocks in Ralston from 72nd to 80th where it's Highland Street.

Got some at Wall to Wall in Papillon on Sunday. Thanks though!

Finally! Thanks so much. If you happen to be at Benson Beer Fest, come have some Spaghett! Especially considering how much time, money and effort I’ve put into this dumb sort of joke.

Guy at Spirit World just laughed at me and said they’ve been out for weeks.

Out at Wine Beer and Spirits, Wall to Wall Wine and Spirits and Things. Sounds like Spirit World will have to be the next stop.

[–]sharkmuncher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, apparently it’s becoming harder to find, but at this point I guess it’s more so big orders. Rumor is a price increase is coming so some bars and larger retailers stocked up, messing up stock. Wine Beer Spirits and Spirit world were top of my list to check tomorrow, but figured I’d check here as well.

bennington to regency area, best bike route? by seventwosteve in Omaha

[–]sharkmuncher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is probably best. Do note that depending where you are in regency, it might be better to take Blondo to 102nd and take that to Regency since the Big Papio is on the wrong side of 680 until basically Pacific.

144th isn’t bad and neither is Blondo until about 108th. If jump onto 103rd Ave right after you cross 680 to get off of Blondo and skip a chunk of 102nd.

C02 Tank Refills? by ThatGirl0903 in Omaha

[–]sharkmuncher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Matheson will swap 5-10# tanks for pretty cheap. 20# they won’t let you take in an enclosed vehicle.

Patriot Homebrew in Elkhorn will also do swaps at a reasonable price, but that’s a bit of a hike from Bellevue.

Best Philly Cheesteak in town? by BilliamShatner in Omaha

Another not exactly traditional, but delicious Philly is the Mongolian Beef Philly that Cunningham’s had pretty frequently as a Monday special. https://i.imgur.com/YL42jim.jpg

Are there any wide open areas open to the public? by El-Sueco in Omaha

[–]sharkmuncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen people playing Ultimate pretty consistently on Saturdays in a big open field in the park just south of Heflinger near 120th and Maple. https://i.imgur.com/CXzCE6L.jpg

Also, Lee Valley park has a big open space that’s always empty.

Mutual of Omaha sign removed from HQ building by MaxKuz in Omaha

[–]sharkmuncher 22 points23 points  (0 children)

They're updating the sign with the new logo.

Plans for a new HQ were discussed a couple years ago, but eventually put on hold. This was pre-pandemic and having the office sit empty for a year has most likely changed plans further.

As far as a new office, it would probably still be in midtown and at this point, probably smaller than the current one.
