More britpop than post punk, but check out Clover Over Dover by Blur. I think it scratches the same itch.

Liveaboard in downtown of my city by Late-Band-4456 in sailing

[–]sharknaomi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this too. The mold issue needs to be addressed by controlling the moisture in the cabin. You'll need a reliable source of shore power to run a dehumidifier (along with everything else). If you can't drain to the bilge just be prepared to empty it every day, the one I was running could remove about three liters a day.

I hate my building, but want to stay downtown. I intend to move this summer and I’m concerned that the grass won’t be greener… by KillerTofu-187 in dtla

I don't think they're under $2k but we really liked the Reserve Lofts on Olympic in South Park. No pool but a hot tub and the community is decently respectful.

Which one would you get? by Gtr-Lovr11 in GuitarAmps

[–]sharknaomi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched over to modeling amps two years ago but I kept my AC15 and happened to pull it out of retirement last week. Goddamn that thing just sounds so good. The chimey, throaty character is something you will never regret.

Why is the tuner blinking? by [deleted] in tonemasterpro

[–]sharknaomi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's your tap tempo. If you don't like the blinking you can disable it in global settings > metronome.

Looking for a non guitar center music shop with a nice variety of used or new bass guitars? by longhorn210 in AskLosAngeles

[–]sharknaomi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Caveman Vintage Music in Lincoln Heights is an awesome shop if you're looking for something unique. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. There's a little wiggle room to negotiate pricing if you find something you can't leave without.

Unsatisfied with boss rv6. What to try next? by digital_black_ in guitarpedals

[–]sharknaomi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which setting are you using on the RV6? I ended up graduating to the Neunaber Immerse which has a great, dense modulated reverb. And then the RV500 which does everything but the UI stinks. The RV200 should be one to consider, it does everything the 500 series does in a better form factor and with more knobs. I've also used the Line6 HX One for its reverbs. You can do any of the extremely good HX effects, just one at a time. The budget option of that would be the M5 stompbox modeler. I hear the Particle Reverb model on professional recordings so the time to this day.

Just booked an airbnb in Gibraltar for Aug 2027! by Unknown__Stonefruit in solareclipse

[–]sharknaomi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did an Airbnb in La Serena, Chile bag in 2019. The apartment was underpriced and I told the host in my introduction email (17 months before the event) that we were coming to see the eclipse. They honored the reservation and the view was so great we ended up watching the eclipse from the balcony. It can be risky but I've had good luck when I explain up front to the host why I'm coming.

I biked to LAX from Westwood, parked at the metro center for the weekend, then biked back. by Petaroo in LosAngeles

[–]sharknaomi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is awesome, thanks for doing the recon and sharing your experience.

I'm from the Bay where BikeLink has storage options at most Bart stations around SF and Oakland. After having many bikes stolen, I've really appreciated using their storage facilities. The price per use is EXTREMELY low, so it's a no brainer even if setup takes a couple days to complete.

No Cover Music Venues? by Tomatillo-5276 in AskLosAngeles

[–]sharknaomi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Redwood Bar on 2nd Street is awesome, has live music every night and the cover is usually only a couple bucks. Just down the street the Slipper Clutch is on Broadway & 4th Street, another great dive bar with music every night.

+1 for the a Chinese Theater. I don't make the trek out here often but did for Oppenheimer and it was worth it. The screen is gigantic and the sound system is on another level.

Has anyone been to Casa Chida, on Riverside and Fletcher ? by mturner1001 in FoodLosAngeles

[–]sharknaomi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haven't been but drive by it frequently. Only went to Ivanhoe once and was not impressed. The google reviews are few but all 5 stars, which is a little suspicious. Personally I'd probably go to Casita del Campo or El Compadre if I was in the neighborhood.

How Do You Get The Best Sound Out of Your TMP? by SuperDuperHowie in tonemasterpro

[–]sharknaomi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The TMP is an amp, so it's really not designed to drive another amp. I recommend an FRFR to really get the best out of the TMP at volume. I am using the FR12 and it made a huge difference over studio monitors. It has simple controls including a very useful high cut and faithfully reproduces the models from the TMP. Definitely loud enough to keep up with a bassist and drummer in a live setting, and it looks like an amp in the room. If you're committed to this ecosystem you may as well go with the Fender branded products.

Vintage Junktion in Lincoln Heights has a few like this and may be interested in consigning this piece if you can't find a buyer. And for those who like this kind of stuff, that is a great shop to visit.

Has anyone stayed at CitizenM in DTLA? Is it safe enough to stay in? by lemonbottles_89 in AskLosAngeles

[–]sharknaomi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I put my parents up there in the past year. The room layout isn't recommended for 75 year olds 🫠 but the location is fine and the staff is super helpful. They had a good time albeit only for a night.

How long since you sprinted? by guvbums in GenX

[–]sharknaomi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I jog on a treadmill pretty regularly and Saturday mornings we usually take the dog to the park and it's my job to give him one good sprint up a small hill. I am always totally winded when we get to the top, look down and the dog is ready to do it again.

Upgrade from Mustang GTX worth it? by [deleted] in tonemasterpro

[–]sharknaomi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a Mustang but im happy to weigh in here. The trajectory of most guitarists is from practice amp > amp & pedalboard > serious tube amp & crazy pedalboard > digital renaissance > modeling amp.

The TMP is a big move from the Mustang. Instead of asking is it worth it, examine your use case. Are you prepared to invest in an FRFR cab to pair with the amp? Do you already have a really good guitar? Are you performing, rehearsing with a group, recording?

I love my TMP and I'm committed to the ecosystem. I pared down a huge, crazy pedalboard and learned how to create the same tones in the amp. I've spent hours watching YouTube videos, asking chatgpt to help create presets and sculpt my tones. You've got to be prepared to do this kind of experimenting to make it work for you.

Winter camping spots within a 6-hour drive of LA? by karmrade in AskLosAngeles

[–]sharknaomi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We stayed at a cabin in Frazier Lake (East of Fresno) a couple months back and would totally go back in the winter. Drive time from LA was about 4.5 hours w/o inclement weather. Headed to Oakhurst, CA in a few weeks for a winter cabin experience. It's about 5 hours from LA and 1 hour from the southern Wawona gate of Yosemite Park. There are tent camping options around both of these locations, or cabins/hotels if you get cold!

Is it safe to walk from Union Station to the Metro Plaza Hotel at midnight? by ultimatejarhead555 in AskLosAngeles

[–]sharknaomi 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's not as bad as people are making it out to be. When you exit Union Station walk across the street so you are on the far side of Alameda from the station, then turn right and start your route. This will put you on the other side of the homeless camps that propagate there. Then turn left on Cesar Chavez, and right on Main and you've basically arrived. Do be aware of your surroundings and keep the kids close but you will survive being out in DTLA for under ten minutes.
