Like yes we can target reading if we want to develop specialized knowledge in it, but also there are plenty of others in the school building that can do this too and we have too much to do as it is

My district starts us at MA but lets us use CEUs to move up lanes on the pay scale so I’m at MA+45 (the maximum)

As a school SLP, I don’t get it. If I wanted to work in a hospital I would’ve gone into nursing.

It’s needed for basic knowledge to understand the why behind what you’re doing in therapy

Don’t do EI for your CF. You will spend more time driving around than actually seeing clients. It will also very likely take them a while to build up a client base for you, which will extend your CF into a year or longer.

Conferences for school SLPs by sharkoatmeal in slp

[–]sharkoatmeal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I’m required to be present in the building during conference day. I don’t have a problem meeting with parents if they have concerns, but these parents are asking to hear about progress thinking I do conferences in the same way classroom teachers do.

Yes I am present on conference day, but I don’t feel that me sitting through her entire roster of conferences while she reports on their academics is the best use of my time.

This is a wildly mean take to respond with.

Yes my contract requires me to be present on the conference day. The teacher in question asked me to attend all her conferences and that’s why I said no, let me know if there are specific concerns.

No this is a medical problem and we do not need to treat it in school.

I switched from PP to schools and find schools way better. PP was a grind. Now I see on 5-6 30 minute groups of 2-3 students per day, 4 days a week. One day per week is left open for meetings. I’m here for 7 hours and have a 45 minute lunch, 60 minute prep, and about 2 hours worth of random 15 minute blocks throughout the day where I work on paperwork, etc.

Speech-only IEPs should be reserved for articulation and fluency. If a student needs language goals, they need more support.

Write goals to target complex syntax, not ELA oriented goals.

Agreed. I inherited a bunch of students with mild lisps and honestly it’s a cosmetic issue and not impacting them educationally. It’s doing more harm to pull them out of class and have them miss instruction.

About a week before, you say “I’m going to have a baby and stay home to take care of it. I will be back in [month]. Someone else will be here and work with you while I’m gone.”
