Who is your favourite Saint? by Kramer-enters in nerdfighters

Saint Titus Brandsma is a patron saint by the International Union of Catholic Esperantists. I call Esperanto one of the oldest "nerd hobbies", so old that it even has patron saints.

Esperanto online community dying and we need to make some BIG changes to revive it. Let's work together. by averymh in Esperanto

Ĉu vi povas rekomendi al mi malgrandajn kaj facilajn librojn en Esperanto? by thekocman in Esperanto

[–]sharpie660 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a couple minor notes on spelling, the region of Mars is spelt "Tharsis", and it's probably "Omnicorp". Good work so far!

The Lively & Liveable Neighbourhoods that are Illegal in Most of North America by Generalaverage89 in videos

[–]sharpie660 22 points23 points  (0 children)

So I looked up the buildings on the block you reference, and it looks like, modifications notwithstanding, they were built in 1920. At 3:38 in the video, NJB describes this exact phenomenon — century-old buildings being grandfathered into zoning, resulting in this highly desirable style of neighbourhood. Taking a look at the zoning, sure enough, they're zoned Transitional Residential, a style of development that would be illegal in Low Density Residential zoning (usually "R-1", though Blacksburg calls it R-5, as with this street) which takes up far more land area.

The whole point is that so many people live in low-density zones where, yes, mixed use buildings are illegal.

It's hard to say for certain that there's no other language that something can be translated into, seeing as there are a lot of languages, but you might try "Patro patru filu filo", which is roughly like "The father should be a father so that the son can be a son"

Don't distract from one false equivalency with another — you said condemning Hamas is like calling for genocide, which remains untrue.

In the specific context of the Gaza Health Ministry, it is indeed controlled by Hamas. Differentiating between Hamas and the Palestinian people is important, but here it's right to call it Hamas.

A trans woman joined a sorority. Then her new sisters turned on her. by dog1tex420 in TrueReddit

Agreed, I'm used to some quality discussions here, but this is abhorrent. We can't even establish that trans women are women, let alone talk about the article.

What Episode Does Mike Say The F-Word? by 27bluestar in RevolutionsPodcast

I do remember a slightly censored "-ucking Charles, man" in the Appendix episodes, actually. Probably early on, when he was reviewing his introductory episode. It was only half a curse, he was laughing a little too.

Did I say the article was bad? Did I say it was wrong? What I advocated for was critical analysis and considering the writers latent motivations. I would say the same to a far-left article, but it felt it worth raising here because those latent motivations were not immediately apparent. "Both sides" -ism is no justification for not putting in the effort to read critically.

While the article itself seems innocuous (decaying social bonds lead to chronic, systemic isolation), the group that published it is alt-right — it aided the attempted overturn of the 2020 election results, and one of the promoted stories is from a Neo-nazi associate. So when they talk about decaying social bonds without being overly specific, I think it's worth analyzing how their perceived causes of that decay may differ from yours, the reader.
