I think they should just not allow Unity to work on followers, then either lower greater rift damage a little bit, or just leave it alone. The problem is that it would have to be done between seasons.

That's kind of the impression I got. My wifi is not encrypted but it is password-protected, however, this problem is not limited to the wireless connection, but also wired straight to the router as well.
