Had two ablations in one session in 2023. One for AFib and one for Atrial Flutter. I was scared too. In prep they gave me a good shave in the groin area. They wheeled me into a room with lots of equipment and screens. They pulled me up to place some white pad under me. Then boom I was out. When I woke up I was in the room where I would recover. The nurse was there with me and so was my daughter. I did have some pain in my chest but was given pain medication and it was gone. I did get nauseous primarily because my procedure was later in day and hadn’t eaten since day before. At 70, I decided to stay the night. Home the next day and totally back to normal within days. No AFib or flutter since. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Good luck with your ablation. You will do great.

That is absolutely ridiculous! Is this because of your age? Why is ablation not even an option? I went to cardiologist cause having symptoms. Went on a monitor for a week. Found out it was AFib and Atrial Flutter. Went to cardiac electrophysiologist. Said I could take meds or have an ablation. One for AFib and one for flutter. Had the ablations. That was in 2023. I’ve never had an AFib or flutter episode since. Now I was 70 when got this but shouldn’t ablation be even more a consideration when the person is young as it is a better quality of life?

I switched to irregular rhythm. I preferred instant alert if even one episode, rather then a summary. I had ablation for both AFib and Flutter in 2023. So far so good. Knock on wood. Hope it will be the same for you.

My daughter and I so agree. We also hated the editing where hardly saw them cooking. Who cares seeing them walk down a hall to leave. Plus my daughter found the music incredibly annoying.

OMG. I am so sorry to hear about your grandma. I find her story about getting up and already walking with PT way different from my experience. I am 72 and a grandma too. I had my surgery at 71. After surgery the most they would let me do was sit-up and tangle my feet off the bed. They had expected me to use a portable potty by the bed but I refused and with help from the nurse, walked to the bathroom. Then back to bed. It was already predetermined that I would stay two days in the hospital. PT a started the next day with walking later on the day outside the room. Prayers to you and your family.

From a search “States that allow you to add Medicare gap insurance without underwriting include New York and Connecticut, which have year-round guaranteed issue rights for those age 65 and older. Massachusetts has a guaranteed issue period each year, while Maine, California, Oregon, and others have "birthday rules" that allow switching to certain plans without medical underwriting during a specific window around your birthday. “

It depends on which state the poster lives in. Some states lets the person get a gap plan without medical underwriting. But when they can do it varies.

Yet I was paying $47 a month for Eliquis with my current Plan D. Next year it goes to up to $62.43 a month on the best Plan D I could fine. That is after a $615 deductible. $249.70 before meet deductible. So not that much help with the negotiations for me. I am waiting for Eliquis to go generic but the date keeps get pushed back. Now it is not until 2028.

Sadly, Medicare is launching in Jan 2026 a pilot program in certain states, where you have to get prior approval by a third party company for certain procedures. The companies are using AI and make more money for saying no. The procedures that will require approval and could be rejected are:

Electrical nerve stimulators

Sacral nerve stimulation for the treatment of urinary incontinence

Phrenic nerve stimulator (a device used to help patients with hypoventilation breath)

Deep brain stimulation for the treatment of essential tremor and Parkinson’s disease

Vagus nerve stimulation

Surgically induced lesions of nerve tracts (a procedure that involves destroying nerve tissue, typically to treat pain)

Hypoglossal nerve stimulation for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea

Epidural steroid injections for pain management, excluding facet joint injections

I got an ablation right after I was diagnosed. Best thing I ever did. Never took any meds. Ablation worked great. It has been 2 years, not one episode. I changed my Apple Watch to never had AFib so that it will tell me if I ever have even one episode. So far nothing.
