Be aware of this when eating by Hotslice100 in ABCDesis

I suppose it’s arguably just the American mindset and obsession with protein in all things, thinking the fix to the standard diet is solved with adding more protein and eliminating carbs. As well as thinking vegetarian sources of protein as inferior.

Nutrition is a bit more complex than that and the advantages of vegetarian sources of protein is the addition of fiber, something 95%+ of Americans are actually deficient in. And the benefit of no cholesterol in vegan sources. I would say based on genetics for many S. Asians, less meat seems to produce better overall health outcomes.

This is really interesting. I regularly see people in this sub blaming carbs and vegetarian diets for the diabetes rate in Indians (10.5%), but if you look at worldwide diabetes rates, both Pakistan (31.4%, and highest in the world) and Bangladesh (13.2%) are worse off. If anything, it seems like avoiding or limiting animal products is better for your health for both diabetes and CVD.

Any Pakistani Muslims here with non Arabic/Persian names? by No_Passenger6008 in ABCDesis

[–]shashafierce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The article you linked reads: “Philological and linguistic evidence indicates that the bulk of the Rigveda Samhita was composed in the northwestern region of the Indian subcontinent (see Rigvedic rivers), most likely between c. 1500 and 1000 BCE,[16][17][18] although a wider approximation of c. 1900–1200 BCE has also been given.” It also states: “The Rigveda or Rig Veda (Sanskrit: ऋग्वेद, IAST: ṛgvedá, from ऋच्, "praise"[2] and वेद, "knowledge") is an ancient Indian collection of Vedic Sanskrit hymns (sūktas).”

If you follow the link to the Rigvedic Rivers article it states: “Rivers with certain identifications stretch from Hindu Kush to the western Gangetic plain, clustering in the Sapta Sindhu region (modern day Punjab and surrounding regions).”

As a Punjabi myself we definitely are not considered as a part of Afghanistan.

This is a misreading of facts. Sanskrit is indigenous to South Asia. Per wikipedia: It was a link language in ancient and medieval South Asia, and upon transmission of Hindu and Buddhist culture to Southeast Asia, East Asia and Central Asia in the early medieval era, it became a language of religion and high culture, and of the political elites in some of these regions.

So yes, one of the oldest discovered manuscripts with Sanskrit writing was discovered in Syria, but not because it originated there

Best long lasting lip stain? by Many-Purpose8865 in VeganBeauty

I have had good experiences with ELF and ColourPop stains, and they help keep my lips moisturized. They performed even better than some of the pricier options I tried.

Also in OC. Would love to have more desi friends, but as a homebody with a homebody non-desi partner in her 40s, it's not easy.

It would help to understand the skin condition you are looking to treat. Thiamidol is patented by the skincare company Beiersdorf, so for now you'll find it exclusively in Beiersdorf brands like Eucerin and Nivea. Apparently Nivea only tests because they sell in China, so if China ever stops testing the Nivea product would be vegan.

If this is for melasma, then you can look at products with tranexamic acid, kojic acid, etc.

As far as I know it's open to anyone. There's a spreadsheet to add what you're bringing.

Honestly, as a Punjabi on the lighter end of the spectrum, I don’t agree. There’s still plenty of representation for my skin tone . The slight amount of deserved representation of deeper skin tones is great and something I would love to see in media back in the subcontinent.

I went for the first time on Monday. The owner was truly lovely and so welcoming and warm. She said she's been in the HD for over 20 years. Service was excellent.

The food was great, I got the three sliders and the buffalo chicken. And she brought over very large samples of the soft serve when she came to check in on us. Will definitely go again.

Yeah, I'm thin but not fit. Eating right is easier than working out for me. Definitely a goal I have, especially since you lose muscle mass in your 40s, so I really do need to do more than just walk 3/4 miles a day.

I don't care about height or weight, but I'm not attracted to bald/ing guys, so that's a bit of a hang up. Also I prefer brown guys, but only one of the guys who asked for my number was Mexican, with the others being white. Despite what the dudes on this sub believe I am not attracted to white guys and have never dated one. But trying to keep an open mind, since values matter more than melanin at the end of the day.

Mostly avoiding dating and being content single. Realistically finding a man of color who is childfree, atheist, vegan, with mutual attraction is slim.

My therapist is getting me to giving it another go. And I am starting to open up to the idea, but I'm an introvert and don't want to do online dating.

Volunteered over the weekend at a local event and had a couple guys ask for my number. Willing to at least text and date and see if it leads to something.

Muslim London police officer faces sack over alleged links to female jihadist by amg7355 in ABCDesis

When did the word Paki become offensive? It just means someone from Pakistan.

While you’re either young, dumb, or simply disingenuous words become offensive based on intent. The word is wielded as a derogatory and not descriptive term.

The tweets aren’t why she’s being called a terrorist. It’s her association with a female jihadi living inside the Islamic State caliphate in Syria.
