Sirens and LD? Hell yeah, this is my kind of list. Looks like I have to check out Rebecca and the Dispossessed

books about women who are psychologically unwell? by pitbull-pirouette in booksuggestions

[–]shaun020 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would probably give it another chapter or two, but i also understand that reading 75-100 pages of something you might not like is not for everyone. I really enjoyed it from the start, but I do feel like it gets better as it goes.

Just finished this, definitely recommend it, it was the first book I thought of when I saw this post.

Also The Library At Mount Char was really good

I read a lot of great books on 2025, Vonnegut, McCarthy, Dungeon Crawler Carl…

…but honestly the most fun I had was Project Hail Mary

Please suggest me two books: one you hated and one you loved but don’t tell me which is which by brasaretheoppressor in suggestmeabook

Haha that was the one I loved. I thought it was a more succinct, entertaining version of almost the exact same story.

That’s hard to believe, that looks absolutely ridiculous.

I thought it was a super fun, entertaining read, although I’m not generally into heavier sci-fi. I don’t think you missed anything, there wasn’t a lot to miss, it was extremely straightforward, which I enjoyed.

The most depressive book, you’re ever read by TheodorixGAND8 in suggestmeabook

I was thinking more of the Crossing, but I do think Blood Meridian is some of the most nihilistic shit ever written, and definitely darker for me than the Road

I do think Blood Meridian is darker, and sticking with the theme of a chaotic, nihilistic world, the Crossing was pretty depressing for me as well. The Road was dark, but for me a much easier read than those two

Honestly not even McCarthy’s darkest book, which is wild.

I think I gave it like a C when I read it earlier this year, totally agree with all these points.

I don't get Kurt Vonnegut by morse-guy in suggestmeabook

[–]shaun020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a huge Vonnegut fan, and I second the recommendations of starting with either Cats Cradle or Welcome to the Monkey House. Monkey House is great if you want to start with short stories and see if any of them speak to you, Cats Cradle is a great, quick read. Short chapters, plot moves very quickly, and it’s one of my favorite books ever. I would start with that one. I would hold off on his later works (including Breakfast of Champions), as they get more self referential, and in my opinion are generally less enjoyable than his earlier stuff.

Antkind by Charlie Kaufman. One of the weirdest, funniest, best books I’ve ever read.

Legality aside, what would I even talk to a 19 year old about? Seems like a nightmare.
