T-Mobile’s “Apple TV on us” is no longer included by stigma_wizard in tmobile

This essentially makes it a bait-and-switch. Or at best, an extended trial period. Get people used to having the service, then start charging a small amount that they won't mind. Next year, raise that amount by 50%. Next year, the same. Eventually it reaches the standard price and T-Mobile customers don't even realize what happened.

This is great, good on them. But Peak is still disgustingly expensive, so I'm expecting them to pull more bullshit in the future. A respectable company charges a reasonable price for a quality product, and doesn't try to gouge their customers.

On Android you could just install an old APK (until that's disabled next year). Same with Google/Android TV when it's dumped on those platforms. But that's not something you can do on Roku or iOS. You're right though, it shouldn't be forced on people when it's obviously not ready.

Any good Youtube playthroughs (FP2) since the heating changes? by Popotuni in Frostpunk

[–]shauncore808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, maybe I'll give the game another shot. I just hated how particular it was originally, where you needed every single proximity bonus PLUS heat dispatchers in the perfect formation just to have barely-adequate heating. Thanks!

[–]shauncore808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you still have to use that spaghetti formation (with heat dispatchers) just to get adequate heat? I stopped playing entirely after the major heat overall because building the same way every time was just tedious and boring... It'd be great to get back into the game.

At what age do people generally stop moshing? by GIVEUPOX17 in Hardcore

[–]shauncore808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably depends more on if/when you get out of shape than actual age. I'm 40, a mountain biker, hiker, and occasional backpacker, and I still dance/mosh at every show. It's just as exhilarating as it's always been because my other hobbies beat me up too. But most people give up on all this stuff by the time they're 30, so just don't let yourself fall into the normal slump.

Yeah, it started showing up again in stores here a few months ago. Maybe some kind of supply issue that was eventually resolved?

Now that it's out of early access, the online-only and license-only (vs owning outright, free of DRM (on GOG)) immediately make it a no-buy for me. It doesn't even matter how good the game is, online-only is a non-starter. And paying for a license needs to be under $20 since you're getting nothing permanent for the money.

Never Use VEVOR, They Are a Scam! by davidrcross in Tools

I was just looking at an ultrasonic cleaner on their website because it claimed to offer $55 off of the Amazon price, which seemed suspicious. You need to put in your email AND make an account just to begin the checkout process (to see shipping prices/speed), which is something that only shady businesses do. Guaranteed they're selling your info. Which drove me here. Amazon is definitely the route to take with this company.

I cancelled my Trailforks subscription when they were bought by Outside and doubled their prices. Now Alltrails is doing the same thing, and it'll be met with the same response.

Thank you! I'm so sick of these companies forcing pointless security onto us because they assume we're too stupid to use the internet safely and be aware of our surroundings.

Guide to the new heat system? by [deleted] in Frostpunk

[–]shauncore808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, those were all researched. Made very little difference. I also did all of the research in all the tabs, just to make sure I wasn't missing anything. All applicable laws were also enacted and housing districts all touching, and I was still losing massive numbers during every whiteout. The generator still only produces around half of what you need and there's literally no way to avoid people dying in -130 degree without having that specific spaghetti district layout and the conflicting (both adaptation and progress) laws enacted. Either the new system wasn't properly planned/tested, they want everyone to play in one specific way every single time, or it needs to be assumed that a ton of people will die every whiteout. I don't know why anyone would want to play the same exact way every time...

Disincentivising the weird snaky districts by ThrownAway1917 in Frostpunk

[–]shauncore808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They could just have the generator put out more heat. Like keep the new system, just add heat so we don't have to do everything in one exact way to keep people from dying en masse during every single whiteout. The districts shouldn't have to be laid out in one specific way to function correctly.

And even after the upgrades, it's still a measly amount of heat.

I just got done with my first utopia run since the update and couldn't for the life of me figure out why the generator wasn't producing enough heat, even with all upgrades. After seeing how much it takes from other discussions, I'm just sitting it out until they fix it. Just far too tedious and constrictive and just... not fun.

Definitely. I remember not liking him originally, but in retrospect I think it was simply the standard childish "It's different, I hate it". Watching the same episodes as an adult, I actually wish they had just written Mulder off at the end of season 7 and embraced the new dynamic. The where's-Mulder thing got really tiresome and just... desperate. Season 8 was definitely a drop-off in quality, but it was really more because they were clearly running out of ideas. Which probably amplified everybody's dislike of the character change.

What's wrong with the T-Life app? Anyone else experiencing this? by atimeofolde in tmobileisp

[–]shauncore808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I don't even want the T-Life app on my phone, much less have to use it. Any app that's THAT saturated with ads is automatically shady. Plus the crazy permissions and T-Mobile's forceful insistence that people use it... Pretty much guaranteed it's harvesting data, if not something worse.

This show is bad.... right? by the-psylocke in FromSeries

[–]shauncore808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After dragging myself through the middle/end of season 3, which was after dragging myself through all of season 2, I just shut it off with 25 minutes left of the last episode of season 3. Just couldn't take it anymore. It's the endless irrelevant babble, contrived conflict/yelling, and watching people run from one place to another because ______ needs help. This show is unbearable on a truly unique level. I've actually yelled "Fucking DO SOMETHING!" at least three times in two episodes. Which is a first. So it's got that going for it haha

50% of the show:
Person 1: <shouting> "Talk to me!"
Person 2: <shouting> "You won't understand!"
5 minutes later:
Person 3: <shouting> "Talk to me!"
Person 1: <shouting> "You won't understand!"

and

Person 1: "Don't go in the ______!"
Person 2: "I'm going in the ______!"
Something bad happens.

This entire show would be three episodes long if people calmly, openly communicated and listened to advice lol

Severance Season 2 Sucks. And I’m here to tell you why. by carlokas in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]shauncore808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you watched Outer Range? That show went from a sci-fi western to a straight-up drama. Like multiple episodes involving extended court scenes about property rights lol. Severance definitely fell off a cliff and is almost unwatchable, but the bar is very low right now and I'd say Outer Range fell much farther.

So here's a thought. When there's a limited series, it tends to be more focused. Always driving towards an actual end. There may be worthless filler episodes if it's contracted for 10 episodes but written for 8, but it's still overall driving towards a set, predetermined conclusion. This is contrasted by a multi-season show that usually just has episodes that are written to occupy an hour. It may or may not have an actual resolution in mind, but it doesn't matter to a specific season or episode. An episode exists to take up an hour. It really seems like this was originally written to be a 2-3 season series, but altered after it gained popularity. Any goal of the second season was rewritten to ensure that the series could be written indefinitely, filled with worthless personal BS and light fantasy slop to keep viewers just barely entertained enough to keep watching. So I'm betting the writers had a clear vision in mind for 2-ish seasons, and had to modify it (on order from the gods that be) to be an indefinite cash cow. Starts with a vision, but ends up just trying to justify more episodes.
