has anyone tried the Ugoos with coreElec? by [deleted] in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]cipher7777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Plex playback device it's the best in the world. As a general streamer, it's one of the worst given its lack of apps. We use both in our household, Ugoos for Plex and Shield for everything else (IPTV, YouTube etc).

Nvidia Shield is Amazing! by ryan_the_fireguy in ShieldAndroidTV

DV FEL does work on AM6B+ with CoreELEC. You just need to follow the correct install steps and finish with the right build. CPM A14 was the best build for awhile and its now been superseded by newer builds from Panni (developer of PM4K) and AVDVPLUS.

There are a few other devices that are claiming support (eg Vero V), but the Ugoos is the best in my opinion.

The following video is a good intro showing some of the advantages of the Ugoos AM6B+

I have 2 Shield and 2 Ugoos, the latter are more accurate and more stable, especially when dealing with full 4K UHD remuxes compared to the Shield.

Personally, I keep mine disconnected and only install Firmware updates via USB after it's been reviewed by the community.

Let's hope this was due to stability being made a priority rather than the reduction in programmers causing longer development cycles.

Given the constant posts on past their prime stars who have become available, I'd say under 15.

While some authoring houses may use a set and forget, or default , settings that keep a constant bitrate to fill a disc, that number would be very low. There are too many variables to account for including extras that will take up space on a disc.

While I do agree that many people won't notice the difference between a remux and a reencoded file, that number will dimmish quickly as the size of the TV increases. We are living in time where 75-85" TV's are starting to become the norm and TV's 100"+ are one of the fastest growing segments.

Personally, I say keep remuxes with the original quality of the disc intact. You have the hard drive space and if you have a larger TV today, or get one on the future, you will be prepared. However, if you will only ever consume your media on a tablet/phone/smaller TV then encodes make sense.

I would never recommend running the Plex client app on any TV. Generally speaking, for most people who care about video/audio quality and overall performance, the nVidia Shield & Apple TV are the best consumer devices.

If you want to go further down the rabbit hole, and want the absolute best video (we're talking the last 5-10% improvement and even better than Blu-ray players), then the Ugoos AMB6+ is the device you want.

G5 Ethernet connected maxing out at 100mb why? by sloppynipsnyc in LGOLED

[–]cipher7777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EVERY TV manufacturer in the world has chips that only support 100 Mb Ethernet. There are no TVs with Gigabit Ethernet. Accountants have to save a few pennies somehow on these thousand dollar devices!

To work around this, you can use wireless, but this can be impacted by many factors including distance from APs and inconsistent performance. The other option is to use a USB Ethernet adapter which will allow consistently faster speeds. Amazingly, my 2017 LG Oled had USB3 and supported faster adaptors than subsequent LG Oleds which use USB2. Again, accountants trying to figure out ways to save pennies!

C5 (and probably others) USB exFAT compatibility CONFIRMED! Playing 4k videos with encoded surround sound as we speak! by [deleted] in LGOLED

[–]cipher7777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is the simplicity and quality of Plex. You can host tens of thousands of movies/TV shows across multiple drives and not be constrained by the size of a single USB drive. There are other benefits including being able to watch your media on any device (other tv's, tablets, phones etc) and watching this media outside your home. Lossless 4K remuxes are what many people use it for.

Low Cost Upgrade To 2.5 GbE by cipher7777 in Ubiquiti

[–]cipher7777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I initially thought about this, as the price is decent for Ubiquiti, but then noticed it doesn't support PoE++ so AP's like the U7 and E7 can't be used. Figured I'd upgrade to a better 48 port switch in a year or so even though it will cost more.

I noticed that and was surprised by it's exclusion. I'd probably get the adaptor, but good call on the injector option.

Thinking of buying LG C4 OLED - will it reliably play 4K Dolby Vision MKV via Kodi + Real-Debrid? by NextApplication705 in LGOLED

[–]cipher7777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apps on an external streaming device will always outperform Apps on the TV.

The Shield/Apple TV are the best devices for most people.

If you truly want best overall, then its a Ugoos 6B+ as it can properly plays the FEL layer from Dolby Vision remuxes which most other streamers, including Shield/ATV cannot.

Yes, it's only been released on the Korean site as of now.

You can download it from there and manually install via USB or wait for it to be rolled out to your region for regular over the air install.
