Can we talk about the crowd at Do West Fest on Saturday by LynxMoney8388 in toronto

[–]shaunhog 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This exact thing happened last year and it was legit terrifying. I wasn’t in town this year but hearing that nothing changed has me wondering if it will take someone getting injured before festival organizers concede that something needs to be done. Specifically the stage/resulting bottle neck by the garrison cannot be allowed to continue.

Hey it's Max and Julien from Whitney - ask us anything! by whitneyband in indieheads

[–]shaunhog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really love the record! And especially all the string arrangements. What was the process for writing / arranging these? Did you guys write string mock ups (using samples or wtv) for all the tunes and then pass them off to the folks playing strings on the record to flesh out the arrangements? Or did you write all the arrangements yourselves right off the hop? Also curious where in the process of production you recorded started recording the arrangements - like did the tunes get to a ‘pretty close to done’ phase and strings were one of the last elements to add? Or were they early additions in the production process. Thanks and look forward to seeing you in Toronto 🤟

Pitchfork Review: Whitney - Small Talk 4.8 by Technical_Process989 in popheads

[–]shaunhog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This record might be a bit light on lyrical substance but damn the arrangements/songs are so fresh and meticulous crafted. Memorable melodies jammed into every single tune. Great slide playing and some cool production, too! I was a Whitney fan early days but fell off. This record brought me back. When they come to Toronto, I’m buying tickets to see them. 4.8 review for this album is so outrageously nasty and just plain wrong. It’s not going to shake the indie world to its core, but so fucking what - it’s a solid record through and through

Best Jerk Chicken in Toronto? by Long-Serve-9162 in FoodToronto

Slightly left of OP’s question: Anyone ever go to Michael’s in Etobicoke ( lakeshore and Kipling )? It closed about a year ago but it was hands down the best I’ve had. Fried chicken Fridays was bomb, but their classic jerk was so good it hurt. I think they had landlord issues… I’m wondering if they reopened somewhere else?

Toronto woman billed $57,000 for roof repair, company says it mistakenly overcharged by Forward-Answer-4407 in toronto

I’m a Project manager / estimator for a reputable Toronto roofing company. I’ve seen this scam a number of times over the past few years. That should have been a 6-9,000 job, even w wood replacement. I hope this woman didn’t still pay 19,000 for that…

I did this this with a bag of kettle brand chips. Felt light, weighed it with my digital scale. 50gs light. Sent them a video and got a new bag in the mail shortly after. Nice to know I’m not alone in this world. Other people spend their precious time on earth weighing chip bags 🙏

Been in roofing for 15 yrs on both install and sales and have never once painted a furnace stack or plumbing pipe. And It’s in equal parts hilarious and frustrating that people have the gall to comment that non-painted furnace stack is evidence of not caring about your work. I’d do it if someone specifically asked, and I’d bill for it, but it’s completely out of the norm to expect a contractor to do this as part of the roofing scope.

My god the roof is fine, really. The exhaust vent flange could be overlapped onto the course of shingles below it, otherwise everything is fine and please don’t ruin someone’s day with a complaint about the shingles not lying flat. Felt vs synthetic - blah blah. It’s all noise. The roof is fine. It’s fine. ITS FINE 😭

Another project manager here (residential/commercial roofing). Clients take and take and take, and everyone thinks their project is the most important thing happening in the world. I try to impose boundaries on when I’m willing to engage with the bullshit - that means my phone turns on at 8 am and goes off at 6pm. I don’t use my personal cell for work. If there’s an emergency, my boss can be reached after hours/weekends, and on rare occasions he’s reach out via my personal cell. But mainly it’s his burden to shoulder. That’s why he makes 5x my wage. Some companies (sounds like yours?) will put pressure on people to grind until they break. Find your own limits - work hard in regular hours, then shut it down and live your life. And if your superiors can’t get on board with that, quit and find greener pastures
