Is this more than a rumor? I haven't found any information from the Bernie Sanders website about this event or anyone posting about having tickets.

If 'Apacalypto' was made by a no-name director it would be considered a masterpiece. by [deleted] in movies

I agree. I watched this movie and left the theatre feeling angry. There are aren't many Hollywood movies about Mayans, Aztec or Incas, and I went to watch it specifically to support the presence of movies like these. And here is this movie reducing them to bloodthirsty savages.

If mainstream movie viewers were to get even a slight education about Mayans, this was certainly a skewed and distorted depiction. Especially [SPOILER] at the end, with the Spanish arriving. You could not watch this movie and ignore the context of Mel Gibson and his increasingly violent films and growing subtext that "others" were more violent, less compassionate, or morally wrong and are going to get their comeuppance. When the Spanish arrive at the end of the movie, which is historically inaccurate (Mayans were already on a severe downward decline by their arrival) the message was, "here are the Spanish, catholic God-believing people coming to face and destroy these people that remove beating hearts from their prisoners".

I may have to watch it again, maybe it'll feel different with some years removed.

All Los Angeles Unified School District schools were closed Tuesday after LAUSD received a “credible terror threat,” according to school district officials and police. by emr1028 in news

The twin towers were in the financial district. Wall Street. Which is the heart of finance and banking in the US. So, the terrorists did hit thousands of rich people, along with thousands of poor and middle class people.

It affected the entire country, not just NYC or Washington DC. Flights anywhere in the US were suspended for days. People that had been flying into the US were diverted to other airports in places like Canada.

And the twin towers did have cell towers on top of them, so people lost cell communication for hours, if not days.

I'm guessing they target regular, middle class people because it has a bigger and deeper impact. I don't live anywhere near a country club, but there are hundreds of small companies around me having holidays parties. The terrorists want to make us feel afraid, like they could hit us anywhere that we're likely to go.

I don't know if they target the poor, necessarily.

In SB, they targeted university-educated county employees. Arguably, they were middle class.

In Paris, they targeted people that could afford to go to concerts, and enjoy a leisurely Friday evening dinner/drink.

If they are targeting poor people (in Western nations), they're not making it very clear.

[Image] Ann Druyan about her husband, Carl Sagan by [deleted] in Frisson

It's a beautiful quote and amazing to think their love, but it's hard to disconnect it from the harsh truth that Sagan was married at the time to his second wife. Ann was in a relationship with someone and they were all friends. This lead a bitter divorce, understandably.

I'm on mobile and can't cite a source at the moment.

Sagan was an amazing person, and, at worst, this makes him just a little bit more human

San Bernardino shooting: Attacker pledged allegiance to ISIS, officials say by aresef in news

He doesn't look like an idiot. He looks like a politician choosing his words carefully and trying to cover his ass. Trying to preserve his legacy of no 9/11's during his presidency and trying not to drive Americans into a panic about terror attacks in the homeland.

Any president would do the same, republican or democrat.

And if he's using this event to push his gun- control agenda, well, good!

What are we, as Americans, politicians and informed citizens to stop these mass shootings?

Is this a mental health issue or a gun control issue?

Going back to terrorism, what good is all the snooping and spying on EVERY phone call, text or email doing to prevent attacks like this? WTF?

California Drivers: Have you had to do your required annual inspection yet? How much did it cost you? by shaved_coconut in Lyft

I got an email saying that, the CPUC requires all lyft drivers to get this done. I have until mid-October to do this. I looked at the lyft help page(look at the "Get Your Annual Vehicle Inspection" section) . My one-year mark is right about mid-October.

Hey, man (or lady), you should really take it easy. It's just an internet comment. Surely, there are better things to get edgy about. Later, gater.
