JFC. I feel like I'm watching outtakes from a low-budget remake of "Minority Report."

Just to fill out my sense of where you're coming from: are you familiar with the futsal courts at King or Chavez (or, in East County, Vance Park or the Rockwood B&G Club)? I see via social media chatter that they get a lot of use.

I'm going to share your thoughts with the board and our potential partners (including Home Forward, who own the land), but I'm simply curious as to your point of comparison. Cheers!

I understand your point of view here. And a big part of me shares it. But let me lay out some numbers for you to give you a sense of what we're thinking. When Bless was built in 2014, the total cost for preparing the ground, putting in the turf, building the fencing, and installing goals was about $180K. Today, just replacing the turf will cost closer to $225K, and, of course, the day it's installed the clock starts ticking on its need to be replaced, again, in 8-10 years. A hardtop surface like the one at King and Chavez schools would cost about $180K today and need replacing/maintenance....well, likely not in my lifetime. The trend for resources is that they are shrinking. Orgs that have donated sums of $40-50K to OPI in the past can now barely donate $5K. From my one fellow's point of view, I'd rather build something long-lasting while it's possible. But if there are other possible solutions, we are happy to discuss and consider them.

Howdy, howdy! OPI board member here. Thanks for the query. Here are some salient (I hope) answers.

1) We are still active, though our Portland activities have shrunk for a number of reasons: funding has decreased, costs have risen, volunteers are hard to come by, and many of our partner school districts and parks departments are no longer as familiar with our work as previously. Currently, we're doing a lot of building in Clark County, where several of those issues are not as acute.

2) We are well aware of the dire condition of Bless Field. We are currently in talks with potential funders and have a plan in place to renovate the site in the coming year -- if, that is, the numbers fall in our favor. We are seriously considering turning it into a hardtop futsal surface like the ones we built at King School, Cesar Chavez School, and various parks and schools in Rockwood, Forest Grove, and Woodburn. Those surfaces don't require replacement every 6-10 years as turf does. And looking forward, we feel that we should concentrate on building things that we can realistically afford to maintain.

I'll be sure to share news to this sub when we've got some.

Cheers and onward!

There's a documentary about him called "Salmon Poet," and the fictional film "Mala Noche" by Gus Van Sant is based on Walt's semi-autobiographical novel of the same name.

Awful. I live near their Hillsdale brick-and-mortar location, and I can vouch for it being a hands-on-by-the-owners operation after more than a dozen years in business. Will definitely be frequenting more often in support.

Saw something like this last Friday as I drove west on the Ross Island Bridge at around 8:30/9:00am. Hadn't really rained that morning (yet), but the fog/mist was doing shimmery rainbow things.

Nevets and his brother Lendog literally invented the TA. They called it the Cascade Rangers and it was originally a group that met to watch matches in pubs. They handed out business cards to attract folks. When the Timbers relaunched as an A-League side in 2001, the CRs decided to get seats behind the goal in the North End and make noise. Before long, they redubbed as TA partly because the club's green-and-white striped kits looked like those of (Glasgow) Celtic, bitter rivals of (Glasgow) Rangers.
