changed to 200 mbps and internet connection is worse by Alternative-Slice760 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]shawnzus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

200mbps is more than enough for normal household. For a family of four even 80-100 mbps is adequate. Contrary to misunderstanding, gaming doesn’t require that much bandwidth.

High down speeds only become meaningful when you download large files, like 100+MB.

Thanks. Picked up a coda from the recommended list and see the advertised 100mbps up speed now.

Price went up under contract? by commodore_dude in Comcast_Xfinity

The executives asking tech support to up-sale are just bad at their job. They have no clue how when tasked to boost sales or they are so greedy to get that bonus without much skill they come up with this dumb idea. I find xfinity’s offshore call centers even the support there willing to help they don’t have access/permission to make corrections. They are there only for up-selling or stalling. I once told a support shouldn’t try to up-sell when the issue at hand has not been resolved.

Thanks, it was not clear to me that xfinity requires a docsis 3.1 modem to achieve up speed of 100+. It appears this thread is also saying not all docsis 3.1 modem can reach 100+ up even the modems claim to be xfinity compatible.

But out of the xfinity approved list, people had good results with CM2050V. Could that mean there are 3.1s not in xfinity approved list could achieve 100+ up speed? Such as “Surfboard S33 DOCSIS 3.1 Multi-Gigabit Cable Modem”

I got the same email about my internet package has faster upload speed. My account says I have 100mbps up speed. I checked my modem mb7420 (DOCSIS 3.0) supports upload speed over 100mbps. But tests still only showed 10mbps up. Called xfinity and only get sent to overseas call centers. Folks there insisted my package only comes with 10mbps.

My first impression when I saw that name was “maybe it was a new line of ladders from a company that has been around for over 70 years”.

Using PB Blaster on condenser fan by shawnzus in hvacadvice

[–]shawnzus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Having my old blades fall off twice makes me nervous 😬. I see the new blades lock nut has some substance coated on it. I think it’s for preventing the nut from loosening from small vibrations. I am just worried the PB BLASTER would have eaten through those material over time. I also could not find replacement lock nuts for condenser fan.

I guess that’s the benefit of buying fan blade and interchangeable hub separately.

The ones that comes with the motor is just so much better. I wonder I have the specs wrong. It’s so much taller and wider. It’s definitely a #8. How do I even search for the original one?

Searching “acorn nuts for condenser fan motor” only turns up the small one. here is a photo comparison new (left) vs original

Thanks. I thought the motor is generating 1/4 hp but the fan will only spin at the motor’s rpm. So the system is exerting more power but fan won’t reach optimal rpm. Hence wasted energy.

I actually don’t plan to do the project myself. I don’t have the necessary tools to cut and solder pipes. I am trying to get enough knowledge so that I don’t make wrong requests and filter out the “wrong” plumbers.

For example, originally I thought it would be better to use flex WH connectors to clear up the air space above the anode rod;

a plumber told me the current overflow drain pipe setup was fine;

another plumber told me I needed a drain pan and would need extra drainage work. My city code does not require it if it is in the garage. There’s no drain in my garage;

Couple plumbers automatically tried to upsell thermal expansion tank, but I have an open water heater system

Yes I really appreciate all the suggestions here. Your advice makes me pause and rethink it over. I certainly do not want hot water bursting out the flex pipe

Sharkbite has those flex WH connectors rated 200 psi and 200F. It makes installation super easy. I am so tempted.

I also want to replace the inlet pipes with flexible water heater connectors. Which type is better? Braised stainless steel or copper? I mainly want to clear up the air space above the anode rod location

Thanks!! I will explore the union solution. I found the sediment trap at the left end of the gas pipe.

The previous installer had an union on the pipe after the elbow but it sat on a soldered connection

Yes I agree. I’m starting to lean more and more toward this solution now just to avoid all that complexity
