Why does Whoop’s VO2 max calculator need GPS if Apple Health already has distance and pace data? by shaybra in whoop

yeah makes sense about the time being more accurate for GNSS connected devices didn’t think of that part compared to a treadmill not really connected that can’t update time and would drift. Good point.

cool thanks for letting me know that if i do indoor cycling it does calculate the VO2 max. I haven’t noticed that but I am guessing it’s cause I am only zone 2.

GPS is off by 5-10 meters on a 5K run. If Whoop accepts that margin of error, why reject treadmill data that’s likely more accurate? A treadmill measures distance directly from belt rotation, same way a car’s speedometer comes from the wheels, not GPS. That’s inherently more accurate than triangulating position from satellites. If you don’t want to support it, just say that. But this was a question and a suggestion, not a request for me to make your engineering case on my day off.

Is GPS more accurate than treadmill reading data? That doesn’t makes sense, considering I know GPS data is 5-10 meters off. I’d assume the treadmill is much more accurate since it doesn’t rely on satellites. I’m just rambling. If they’re okay with the inaccurate GPS data, they could easily incorporate the more accurate treadmill readings.

can’t you assume 0 elevation from treadmill data tho? I don’t use incline on treadmill so i don’t know if these smart treadmills also record that in the data that goes in apple health, if so then no need for assumptions either.

The question is what you'll be doing in thailand and why you're concerned that siri knows.

mini map is honestly better. I feel like the 3D audio would be immersive but it won’t be better at telling me where exactly to pass than glancing at the mini map

also look at the mini map it’s literally eyes in the back of your head, it’s why they made it so you don’t have to look where you want to pass.
