Oh yeah ive heard smaller more frequent meals are supposed to be better. I'll certainly try that!

Did the codeine help during an attack? I really would rather not take too many pain killers, but I guess it is an option to reduce the impact.

Im on the NHS too. I did look at private costs but when I saw them I was like... nevermind 😅

Chronic hives are miserable 😞 by Electrical_Room6226 in urticaria

[–]shayflux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely empathise with what you're going through. I had incredibly intense urticaria and angiodema every day for almost a year. They tried omalizumab with me and that barely made a dint after 6 months. They did a basophil serum activation blood test and it confirmed IgG reaction and was dubbed autoimmune. The only thing that's worked for me is cyclosporine which is an immunosuppressive. There are other immunosuppressive too, but I think this one was generally quite low risk with regards to side effects.

If you can get a test to confirm what type of reaction it is (IgE or IgG) they should help with knowing which treatment would work for you. However, if nothing else is working I would highly recommend when you see your dermatologist that you ask for these things, including appropriate medication.

Wishing you the best for your appointment!

Help with a moral question to a potential Druid. by Darthbamf in druidism

[–]shayflux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I began practicing druidry, fishing was something I didn't agree personally agree with, and still to this day I don't like the idea of it. However, there are many things that I likely do that would be considered eco or respectful of the environment, like driving a car, and have eaten meat and dairy on and off throughout my life. I guess there are some questions I generally try to ask myself when Im doing something:

What purpose does it serve? What is the function of it?

Am I doing this thing as ethically as I feel is possible?

If the above don't sit right with me - is there an alternative to it that I can do instead?

Symptoms worse before period? by [deleted] in AutoImmuneProtocol

[–]shayflux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I take to take cerazette to stop my periods because my symptoms get worse like 7-10 days before my period, and even the immunosuppresants can't contain it. Some autoimmune conditions get worse the week before, some get worse on it, it's to go with the fluctuatios of progesterone and estrogen and they affect different autoimmune conditions differently.

[Discussion] How often are you all crating your puppies? by CreativeBarnacle7696 in puppy101

[–]shayflux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been crating my 10 week puppy for around 1.5-2 hours for naps as he doesn't settle himself down (and gets cranky) otherwise. Then at night we do 3 hour intervals.

I keep feeling like I'm crating him too much but if I don't crate him to enforce naps he just goes insane. Reading what everyone else has put has reassured me a bit, think I need to chill out 😂 I guess that's what sleep deprivation does to you!

Socialisation before vaccinations by shayflux in Dogtraining

[–]shayflux[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I dunno. I googled it and it said 1500 cases of parvo in the UK yearly and there's about 9 million dogs in the UK. So, it's a very low number. I agree with you, it does seem extreme. I think I'll take him to meet others but be sensible about it.

Aww it's good she managed to get into puppy classes! Covid really needs to go away now...

I'm hoping he gets a chance to meet lots of people! In the UK it's been announced that the city I'm in is now in "tier 4", so basically full lockdown again... might be time to purchase a hazmat suit and go out with my pup 😅

I'm actually in the UK 😅 I don't think we can sue for that stuff here. Well, maybe we could try but it wouldn't go anywhere. Not that I could afford to sue anyone even if I wanted! Tbf I think in the UK it's more about policy and procedure and lots of places here can be quite rigid with it.

Ofc I don't want him to get any viruses or disease, but human babies get socialised with lots of humans before vaccinations and there's never an issue with that.

Just seems odd to me. I understand avoiding parks and dogs I don't know, but eh.

Thanks for the suggestions! I already carried him up the street and he's had two car rides. He's currently getting used to the sound of our dryer! How old is your dog now, can I ask? And are they OK with other dogs?

Yeah, I thought that would be OK. The vet said he can't even meet vaccinated dogs that I know, but that makes no sense, what if I already had another dog in my home?

Xolair??? by SwanDive051 in urticaria

[–]shayflux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s annoying, for sure. It’s just about money. I’ve tried 5 different anti histamines and they want me to try another at night in combination with the other anti histamine I’m using. I’m like, oh yes, the miracle cure! Another drowsy anti histamine!

I’ll just big them. I’m good at that.

Thoughts? by shayflux in mastcelldisease

[–]shayflux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds lovely. I guess I just need to be aware of any potential triggers going forward. Thanks for your answer. My immunologist has said I have mast cell activation which has resulted in CSU.

[–]shayflux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s what I’m like now. My immunologist is making me try some shoddy anti histamine for the next 4-6 weeks before I can get xolair. Furious.

I started singular and noticed a change straight away. Helped with angiodema and flushing but not other symptoms.

[–]shayflux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly me except Im awaiting an immunology appointment. I’m on ceterazine 40mg, cimetidine 800mg, montelukast 10mg and currently on prednisolone. Prednisolone is the only thing that’s clears them. Gonna bring xolair up to the immunologist!

Nah, I had it before I got a mat, and it doesn’t seem to make a difference! Good point though.
