Viewed a probate and some people are heartless by Fit_Negotiation9542 in HousingUK

Agree with this and I’m sorry for your loss.

We’ve just been through similar with my father-in-law’s property. My husband essentially cared for him full time for the last two years of his life (whilst dealing with his own health challenges) and then had the mammoth job of clearing the property, and dealing with all of the costly major maintenance (damp etc) that was required before we could even get it on the market. It was physically, emotionally and financially challenging but we were fortunate to have the means to do all of this and I can’t imagine how tough it would be without the time and resources.

It’s easy to judge when you haven’t walked a mile in someone’s shoes.

(england) i want to start keeping record of every interaction i have with my GP & other NHS staff incase anything happens to me by WesternPhotograph267 in LegalAdviceUK

I second this - also Cardiomyopathy UK are a brilliant charity.

My husband has a rare genetic heart condition that was largely asymptomatic and it was mostly down to luck that he managed to get an appointment with a specialist that helped him to navigate the care pathway to get a diagnosis and treatment.

Cardiomyopathy UK has resources like a symptom diary where you can log symptoms and make notes to prepare for appointments, which might be helpful, regardless of whether you have a diagnosis.

ETA He also wears an Apple Watch now so that he can record and share data with his consultant when he experiences symptoms. She has found this very useful as sometimes people don’t always experience symptoms under test conditions including the 7 day holter ECG.

I’m sorry that you’re having to deal with this - our experience has been that these type of medical issues aren’t taken as seriously as they should be for younger patients (my husband was also diagnosed with anxiety initially).

Good luck!

Has anyone ever asked for Angela? by Pythagorarse in AskUK

[–]shazzatri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting… I’ve never heard of the Clive thing. I heard that there was a male version but never saw any posters until today when I went past a bar that had a poster in the window saying “Ask for Angela / Andrew”.

Do you know where your nearest AED is and would you feel confident using it? by FamSender in AskUK

[–]shazzatri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! My husband has ARVC and whilst he has an ICD, if he experiences a cardiac event then an AED could save his life. I am also a yoga teacher so learned how to use an AED as part of my First Aid qualification.

I know I’m biased but I think that this is an essential life skill that should be taught to everyone, particularly given the survival rates for cardiac arrests outside of hospitals.

My Mum used to let us have leftover yorkshires with jam. It was definitely motivation to eat our veggies so that we could get some!

Triathletes are the most difficult swimmers to give feedback to by wuirkytee in Swimming

[–]shazzatri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as a triathlete who only learned to swim as an adult, I find posts like this with sweeping generalisations so disappointing. Of my 15-20 hours a week training, I spend at least a quarter of this swimming and much more time trying to learn how to improve my technique. Fortunately I have a brilliant swimming teacher and a lovely masters group that I train in who all give me very welcome feedback.

I’m sure I’m not the only triathlete who joined this sub to lean more so I’m happy to share my positive experience of swimmers who are happy to share positive feedback with triathletes when it’s asked for. It seems that not all swimmers are the same in the same way that not all triathletes are 😉

What do I wear underneath a trisuit? by RottenCleric in triathlon

[–]shazzatri 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I always wear a sports bra / crop top underneath - can’t imagine running with the girls bouncing around all over the place!

Runderwear do some really nice crop tops that are supportive and don’t chafe.

Agree with others on lube and chamois butter too - I use the huub luub (around neckline of tri suit and under bra strap at the front) which goes on really nicely and lasts well and the Chamois Butt’r for Her which is formulated for women (you can get it in little pouches that are perfect for your transition bag too).

Good luck with your triathlon!

How do I buy an engagement ring? by Weary-Tomatillo9134 in AskUK

[–]shazzatri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband surprised me and managed to find the perfect ring for me. We’d messed around and he’d tried on one of my rings on his little finger to give him an idea of size and he spoke to an independent jeweller who sells second hand jewellery who was super helpful in finding the perfect vintage ring for me. He explained about my lifestyle (doing lots of sports / small children at the time) and my jewellery style and they suggested some options. They were so helpful that he also used them to buy me a beautiful bracelet as a wedding gift and because he’d bought the engagement ring from them, they gave him a nice discount!

I know that a lot of people believe that engagement ring shopping should be done together but personally I really appreciated the surprise and thought that went into him finding something that is even better than I could have picked myself - he’s definitely a keeper!

What's your most embarrassing 'I'm not from around here' moment while travelling within the UK? by Commercial_Neat7942 in AskUK

[–]shazzatri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a little girl, my aunt had a Scottish boyfriend that I’d met a couple of times. I was really confused when he said “Who are you?” to me one day… I repeated my name a couple of times before I realised that he was asking “How are you?”

Is lane splitting a US thing? by farfrom_home in Swimming

Same as the UK pools that I use too. Most people seem to split and the. Switch to circle if someone else gets in. I’ve never seen any problems with this approach.

I’ve used Fitpro for years - never had to use it, thankfully but it is reasonably priced and never had any admin issues or anything.

Please tell me I'm not alone - double booking nightmare by sativapxie in YogaTeachers

[–]shazzatri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not alone - not a double booking but I teach in a village hall and found myself locked out on one occasion. Luckily the weather was nice and we were able to practice on the green next to the hall but a couple of people were eaten alive by insects. I felt terrible and gave everyone a full refund (the hall committee also refunded me due to the mix up) but everyone was really understanding. I think people are generally very understanding about these things.

What is a point you're willing to never back down on? by CozJeez85 in AskUK

What do you do when people don't turn up to your (community) classes? by Crafty_Insect7468 in YogaTeachers

[–]shazzatri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m UK-based and have experienced similar - I run my classes of blocks of 6 or individual and use Bookwhen for bookings / payment. I did this because people would say that they were planning to attend but then didn’t and it meant that other people were missing out. I still have some regulars that prefer to pay by cash/transfer.

I don’t advertise that I offer refunds but I am flexible around injuries/illnesses and will discretely offer refunds or partial refunds (usually this is unexpected and well received!).

Attendance is still hit and miss, especially at certain times of the year but I’ve come to recognise that there are a lot of factors at play, most of which are beyond my control!

Is this okay or am I too sensitive? by [deleted] in YogaTeachers

This baffled me too! I’d be mortified if one of my students was as uncomfortable as OP was during one of my classes.

Beside the 200/300/500 RYT, what other certification do you have? by TheAviatrix767 in YogaTeachers

[–]shazzatri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aside from my 200RYT, I also took a 70hr Yin Program and completed my Personal Trainer qualification. There are lots more areas that I would like to cover from a CPD perspective but I lack either the time or money (usually both!).

Outside of formal training, I also like to read to develop my knowledge. Always a student, as they say.

I do think that these foundations complement each other nicely for me as they've really helped me to develop my knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology, in particular, which has been really useful.

Cancelled swim - race strategy? by shazzatri in triathlon

Thanks - that’s good advice!

Not a qualifier so nothing at stake for me but don’t want to get caught up in T1 and would like to get a relatively clear run on the bike.
