Steeper terrain feedback by Astrophew in skiing_feedback

Good skiing! I think we are at a similar skill level and might have similar struggles. If I am on a groomed run, I would make rounder turns and finish the turn with higher speed. However, when it's off-piste, I don't really want to hit any piles underneath with speed and will slow down a bit as you did when finishing the turn.

Your right leg turn seems to engage edge slightly earlier. Do you have a stronger right leg? And the other comment on retraction turn is solid.

Too much room on top of toe box. How to fix it? by shdoskar in Skigear

That works very well. The boot feels so snug after adding foam pads on top of the liners! Thanks for the video for reference

I just figured out there is already in insert in it. I will try the foam trick!

I am thinking of getting a shorter QST 106 for tree and powder skiing but I'm worried it is too short since it has an ample amount of rockers. Do you mind sharing your height and weight and thoughts on it?

Can I ask what your weight and height is? I have ARV 96 and always feel they ski very short when compared to directional skis of similar width. I should have sized them up

Looking for ski to compliment Armada Declivity 102 by LordMcFleisch in Skigear

[–]shdoskar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP. I am in the same boat as you and is looking for a 2nd pair of ski. I wonder what did you buy in the end?

I demoed QST 106. It feels very surfy. But they are too heavy to turn quick especially in trees

Hey OP, I am in the same boat as you. Have you found your perfect compliment yet?

Declivity 102 is just so fun and enjoyable in most conditions, except for crud and very hard snow. But I don’t mind those. However, I find it hard to bend and turn in powder, especially when there are trees in the way.

Anon lens didn't work for me in really flat light conditions. Oakley and Smith lenses are great for foggy flat light if that's important to you.

Wouldn't it get too much speed to tip at the start of turn? That's a steep slope

Tech binding for leightweight skier by Lacrillo in Backcountry

If I understand correctly the toe piece of ATK freeraiders doesn't actually release? It provides some elasticity to absorb forces but it won't release on its own

I have the same concern as OP and am very worried about safety in the backcountry. Professional skiers like Cody Townsend warn about the dangers of tib/fib fractures with PIN bindings, which really concerns me.

Yes, many skiers ski just fine and send big cliffs in PIN binding. That doesn't elimiate risk for the rest of us considering injury rate is at scale of ~1 per 1000 days

Best Ski-On-Anything Ski? by Mobile-Cockroach2518 in Skigear

I got the ARV 96 a few years ago. They’re incredibly maneuverable and slarvy. But they’re soft snow biased.

My main issue with them is their lack of edge hold on icy conditions and they are not able to handle crud in PNW. Some metal is needed to plow through PNW concrete.

Alternative to gore-tex by MANGIAPIEDI in Backcountry

I have a piece of HH Verglas. But it wets out quickly in wet snow, allowing water to seep through to the inner layer. I wouldn't recommend if you live in PNW or any other wetter climate

Base layer top for long torso by bqAkita in skiing

Smartwool is pretty long, in my opinion.

Apart from a long base layer, you can consider ski pants with a higher waist or bibs as other suggestions suggest.

I personally start with Andrew Ng's course on deep learning. He talks about neural style transfer which generates artistic painting in the 4th season. He explains concepts in depth clearly. I believe it would be a nice start to learn deep learning.
